The Nylon Acoustic Guitar also fits in w/ Jazz due to its smooth mellow sound, plus it's great for singer-songwriters cause it won't overpower the voice. They're also great for beginners cause you don't have to push down as hard on the strings since they're made out of Plastic which has a lower tension to protect your fingers.

Electric guitars are most definitely not "easier to play" for kids. The strings are made out of steel and if you don't yet have the fingers for it they can be pretty difficult to use for even half an hour. If you are a beginner go for a classical guitar first. Then go for whatever you want.
