Often, people talk about certain accents or dialects of Spanish being "harder" or "easier" to understand than others, especially for English speakers. However, it is important to remember that our perception of "harder" accents to understand or speak with can vary a lot depending on which accents we have been exposed to. In this video I will speak in Spanish so you can hear my Mexican accent and let me know if you think this accent is "hard" or "easy." In the end, exposing yourself to an accent with daily practice can help it go from difficult to a piece of cake to understand, and you can really learn any dialect you set your mind to. Thank you for watching, you're awesome :) New videos every Saturday.

Hola, I'm Nate. I used to not know any Spanish at all, and I had no interest in learning the language. I thought learning Spanish would be boring, a waste of time, and would provide no value to my life. Then I started taking Spanish classes in high school and everything changed for me. I struggled with learning the language a lot at first, but thanks to my teachers and my Spanish speaking friends, they helped make the learning process fun. Within a few months, I had gotten to a conversational level, but more important, I had become a more confident person. The real win for me, though, was the friendships I made and strengthened. I discovered that not only did I have higher self esteem, but being out in the real world with people, whether old friends or new ones I met, made me feel more alive and connected with the world around me. Now it's my goal to create videos that make you smile and inspire you to learn Spanish or another language!

my girlfriend is peruvian and we speak spanish almost exclusively, and i find it really easy to understand colombians and mexicans. I just heard some argentinos speak for the first time in person and I was completely lost. they’re using vos and the “sh” for y’s and ll’s almost completely ruined my ability to comprehend

Really good video! I learned Spanish from Latin America when I was a kid. My teachers were mostly from Cuba but I had friends from Venezuela which isn't there easiest accent mind you. I did a month immersion in Caracas back in the early 80's and really learned a lot. I felt pretty fluent even after just a month. Almost a year later, I studied two semesters in Spain. That accent really threw me for a loop and I had a hard time with comprehension for the first 2 months. Then at some point, things started to click and it was as if my ears opened. I understood practically everything ; t was pretty exciting. While I was in Spain, I could imitate the accent but it never felt natural to me. My accent in Spanish is fairly neutral so I have been told. I love accents especially the Argentine accent. About 8 years ago, I visited Guatemala and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to understand. I felt like people tended to articulate more than in other places that I have visited. Sometimes I find the accent of Costa Rica and Chile a little more of a challenge to understand.

I'm going into my third year of learning Spanish and I'm told that I'm at a B2 level and your online test confirmed that. I do join in on conversation groups online through meetup and I do chat with native speakers in the intercambio groups, which is fun. I can usually understand people from Mexico, Colombia, Spain, and Argentina because I have watched lots of videos with those accents. However, I have difficulty understanding people from Peru (ah!) and I have a difficulty understanding other English-speaking people who are learning Spanish.haha. I like speaking to native speakers because they know the higher vocabulary when I use it and can help me out with words and syntax. My tutor tells me, that I have a Mexican accent. I guess because I live in California. He lives in Argentina and now his accent is beginning to rub off on me a little. Thanks for your videos. I'm tempted to join your program. Is it geared just for the A1-A2 speaker or are you able to take a B2 speaker to a C1 level?

Wouldn’t recommend learning a specific accent, just learn Spanish and the rest will figure itself out. I find myself mirroring the person speaking in front of me, so long story short: learn Spanish but be like a chameleon 🤣

My parents are from Panama 🇵🇦, and I’ve considered that accent when I begin learning again… or possibly Cuba 🇨🇺. You don’t hear much about Cuban accents which is interesting 🤔 Spain 🇪🇸 seems the most “neutral” ✅ . Thanks for this video. I like this topic! Maybe a deeper dive in this in the future if this gets a good response 👍🏾

I find the Peruvian accent to be possibly the easiest to understand. The Argentine accent still throws me off and the Andalusian accent with the cut offs is definitely more difficult than most other Spanish accents.

Peruvians claim their accent is the purest, but that's a fallacy. Peruvians tend to not pronuncing middle "S"s and that should be considered an important drawback, at least for beginning learners.

Theoretically the easiest Spanish accent/dialect for English speakers should be Costa Rican Spanish because of the pronunciation of the /rr/ phoneme which Costa Ricans pronounce often like the English /r/.

I can certify that Spanish from CR is one of the most neutral ones probably closer to Colombia. Studied there for 4 months. Their slang is great as well and most of it makes sense 😂
