I have made it safely to Africa's smallest country on the mainland! It's called THE GAMBIA -- have you ever heard of it before?
This nation is completely surrounded by Senegal and the Atlantic Ocean on all sides, and it's appropriately nicknamed "The Smiling Coast of Africa." Seriously, people smile at you from every angle here!
We've spent the past 2.5 days here and it's been a very interesting experience to say the least. I love the people and the nature -- they are both world class. But something doesn't feel right to me about the society, which I explain in this video.
This West Africa road trip is getting crazier and crazier by the day! Follow along on IG Stories for live updates in real time!

I live in America but my family is from Gambia and Senegal and there is so much more than what was in this video, it’s beautiful country and if your from America it’s hard to understand the culture and atmosphere. I’ve been there several of times and the sex tourism is something that needs work but depending on the area you won’t see it. It’s a very small country so don’t expect everything to super clean and not crowded. it’s a country that just came out of dictatorship, and the president now is not doing much to help our country. I was excited that you were going to share about my country and how beautiful it is and the people, but now watching I will say I am disappointed, I feel no one really got to see how Gambia really is, with it’s rich culture and amazing people.

I am British and I have been to the Gambia few times. My perception of the country is completely different from Drew's. My friends and I have had amazing times on both of our trips and we are all females from different nations . Two years ago, 10 of us visited and we are all looking forward to going back next year. The people are so welcoming and friendly which was very surprising to us . The only negative thing I'll say is, their is a clear difference between the poor and the rich. We came across extreme poverty in some areas and we were also invited to American like MANSIONS owned by multi millionaires dressed with private swimming pools ,huge gardens , butler's, maids etc. This level of difference did not sit very well with us and we hope the rich will give a helping hand to the poor to make things easier on them. Oh is extremely important to mention that unlike some countries we've visited in Europe and other parts of the world, we felt incredibly safe walking around at night as a group of tourist girls. We genuinely had fun. I believe Drew only visited the not so great parts of the country. We also visited the neighboring country Senegal and had an even better time there !

I've been to the Gambia to work with a secondary school. The school was in the inland of Gambia, so far away from the coast and its tourism. Avoid coastal countries if you don't like the hot and humid weather -how to say thanks in the local language -they students wear all white to school -they country is a Muslim conservative country -you hate crowded markets(busy markets are always crowded even the farmer markets in US) Thanks for sharing these pointers about the country but You could have done a better representation of the country.
