Its Gods Will and His Joy of seeing HImself through our eyes. Children fall when learning to walk, but we let them. So humans fall when trying to be divine but we have the freedom to do so because ultimately nothing dies, its all One.

Veerji, I'd be foolish if I said that some Sikhs dont believe in re-incarnation. This religion is not about belief its about experience and following. So, not all Sikhs are the same, some Sikhs have had more experience of the One and Naam than others. So just like scientists and science students are different, then in Sikhi, the spiritualists and other Sikhs are different. Now there is not one Great Soul who doubted re-incarnation..wrt Gurbani..listen, accept and follow. Guru is speaking truth

Great Video! I have searched for years now, studying what is the purpose of life, why we are here etc. From my understanding going back to Source is definitely the purpose, but it is also to enjoy this life of form. To live each day in a high state of consciousness by meditating or doing banis. Whenever we are in a high state of consciousness we are aligned with Source, (God). The Ego is our challenge, it will convince us that happiness is money, sex, status. The Ego always forces us to be unhappy and miserable. When we meditate, or read a holy book, or help others, be in joy, present moment and positive state we are living the purpose of life. It's alright to have money, cars, clothes, but always remember that God is the true Joy, everything else is just things.

Hi EarthElla, I do think its important to find both a Truly Enlightened Teacher to follow and to find a congregation/ holy company that follows that path. The biggest hurdle in spiritual progress is Ego, or a sense of separateness from divine. Having a Sat Guru (teacher of the Truth - see our video on satguru) and the holy company (sadh Sangat) keeps us humble as we surrender to Guru and learn from our fellow travelers. Also, sadh sangat is like reception to call God. (see our iphone video)

Sat Suri Akal Basics of Sikhi. Ive listened to a fair number of videos on your site, very educational and interesting. I do have a question: You mention in this video that the meaning of life is to connect and become one with the divine. Im confused as to why a creator powerful enough to do whatever whenever, would create beings (humans) to make their meaning of their lives to worship and constantly praise and think about… him/her/it! Please understand I am not posting this to disrespect anyone its just a question I've had regarding all religions. I was born and raised in a sikh household and there are aspects of sikhism which resonate with me, but then there are issues like the one I mentioned above which troubles me… IF there is a creator why would they want to play such games with us, (if we don't believe or try and connect with it then we get re-incarntated over and over or go to hell etc etc depending on which religion is to be believed) I would have thought if there is a creator, then this creator would be more interested in creating beings to just explore and learn about them selves and others and the universe as the main purpose of there existence, (self-fulfilment in regards to learning and seeking the truth through science and direct experience) then when the being passes away meets the creator to talk about there discoveries of them selves and the creator work?!?! Just an idea. I look forward to your reply. PS Also I watch and read a lot of debates on religion and atheists especially Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris to name a few and I am a little disappointed that Sikhs don't appear to take part in such debates and Dialogues which I think is important for people to watch and learn about there own position and how they feel and believe. IF there are some please can you recommend such debates. Thanks For your time.
@basicsofsikhi
@basicsofsikhi 10 жыл бұрын
Sat Sri Akaal ji, please have a look at the interfaith debates on our channel. We have only just started 2 years ago and our focus is on educating rather than debating. Your question is an interesting one but to answer it, i will have to challenge some of your assumptions in it. When you say that "creator would be more interested in creating beings to just explore and learn about them selves and others and the universe as the main purpose of there existence"/// Have your considered the idea that our True self is to be one with Vaheguru? If this is our real nature, then all we are doing is trying to see past the illusion and realise our true nature. If we dont do it in this lifetime, then we will have to do it in the next one. We dont exist, only the 1 exists and the illusion that we are separate is just that, an illusion that needs to be transcended. Also your statement is "then we get re-incarntated over and over or go to hell etc etc depending on which religion is to be believed". Please remember that its not about the religion that we 'believe in" but our spiritual connection to God, regardless of religion. Watch our video called "dancing monkeys, cinema" and you will see the analogy about cinema

Hi Basics of Sikhi I had a question regarding the purpose of life. You state that the ultimate purpose of life is to connect with the divine. We have been separated from the divine and in this life we must connect with the one to rejoin, or we will be reincarnated to try again possibly. If we came from the one why are we reconnecting with the one, as we are the one or at least part of it? What is the reason to be born and the divine not allowing us to remember who we are and/or where we are from. The glass of water analogy used... why isnt the glass of water allowed to know that it is from the ocean without needing faith and others telling it that it is so... the glass of water is part of the one so whilst separated for whatever reason and before reconnecting, cant that glass of water enjoy the experiences of that brief exsistence it has and experience the joys of what that separation also bring and exploration in front of it? No disrespect but it could sound alittle silly that a divine being creates being only for the being to worship "it" and that is there main point of being.... there is so much more for that being to explore, the wonders the divine has created, the universe, the sub atomic world to discover, the jot of discovery and then when reconnecting would be the point when the exciitng conversations about that discovery can be had..... if there is a divine creator im not sure it is so egotistic to want its creation just worship it day and night... it has given us so much to look and and experience... and I would have thought he would from birth let us know for 100% fact that he is there without us having to take it on faith and other peoples word for it. Thoughts?

Aim is to find permanent ever increasing enjoyment or ecstasy, materialistic pleasures are temporary i.e. interest in new things or finding new things gives us excitement and after achieving it, it decays. We are separated so that we can explore and enjoy this exploration (which is endless). Love (gives enjoyment) is defined based on separation as the day is defined based on night, without one other have no value. Admiring this amazing creativity and attributing it to God is a way to accepting him. Wah - awsomeness and guru(God) - whatever is created and everything beyond which we cannot perceive or measure. When we truly kill our sense of egotism or oneself(the thoughts and feeling, good-affection and bad-anger, related to others or ourself i.e. its like forgetting yourself and replacing it with the God's thought e.g. attributing everything to him) then we can get that ecstasy.
@jugrajsingh3299
@jugrajsingh3299 7 жыл бұрын
First is to accept there is God or there is more than our imagination and we are separated from it. Its not like materialistic things that we can claim(signifying our ego) but we have to request for it by subduing our thoughts and actions to God's will.

Steve Austin the Creator did join us from the beginning but thru the sin of Man it was incomplete. The "Ever Essence" that makes up the fifth element comes directly from God. In case you are unfamiliar the other four have been tried in a lab to create life unsuccessfully, they are Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen and Oxygen. The Fifth contains part of the Spirit of the Universe, the God in all of us.

@@mtsflorida sins of man is a Christian concept and not part of any sihkism I've read or heard of. In sihkism the concept of man is not recognised as we are taught that our mortal form is only temporary and that our physical form is not important and our essence (soul) is not governed by the laws of this universe. We came from Waheguru and its our mission to learn and when our essence as obtained enough knowledge we return to and become part of God once more.

I agree. And the 8.4 mil types of beings is just a reference to the Indian estimate of total species on earth, similar to 9 treasures, etc. It was characteristic of the Vaisheshika thought to come up with numerical counts. We now know the number to be not true, though it's a good estimate. When gurbani says 84 lakh joon upayee, rijak diya sabooh ko tadka..it's only a poetic way of expressing that God has created all and cares for all, not necessarily that there are precisely 8.4 million species

@@earthspirit516 Because WaheGuru didn't make any. If you are going to compare Christianity with Sikhi know that Joan of Arc burned on the Cross and Jesus didn't recommend fighting. The path of heaven is obscurity and any female masters on the path were probably better masters than the men and therefore have mastered remaining obscure. The men however we have record of mostly fought and died much like a woman in Christianity. gurbani answers your question in just one line, when it says "karni aapo aapni kay nerai kay door" meaning-- that how close or far(separated) we will be from the divine is judged on the basis of our deeds. . imagine the glass of water floating on the ocean. here, the water in the glass is us, the ocean is waheguru, and the glass is the ---ego, anger, lust, greed, attachment which separates us from the akaal purakh(waheguru).and as a matter of fact we have been gifted by the divine itself with the option or the choosing of what deed do we commit . we have the freedom of choosing what to do. we have the freedom to break that barrier of separation of falsehood between us and the divine, and also have the freedom to flourish that wall of seperation . and if we do the former(i.e. choose to break that wall of seperation created by us) so, then the divine would be welcoming us in his sharan just like a loving parent does when his/her child scores good in the exams. this is the game of love. if the glass will break then the water will submerge into the ocean automatically. so the answer to your question is "we are seperated from waheguru b,coz we have chose to build that wall of seperation between us and the divine(param-aatma) and we are doing nothing to break that wall" i.e. wasting our human life. HOPE THIS HELPS !!

Singh Saahb Ji, what I don't get (when in my philosophical state of mind), is that if we came to the Earth in this life to follow and worship "The Divine" or "ONE", why did "Waheguru" send us here in the first place? Why did "Waheguru" want to create a world and then send "beings" on it just to praise Him? Sometimes I plainly just think, "Oh, it's all just His game. We're mere pawns. Being moved and put in the "game" whenever and however He feels like it." So I just simply concluded that we don't know and never will (well... until we die?). Yes, it answers the question, "What is the purpose of life?". But the answer for it spawns further questions such as "Why did ONE do so?" Coming back to the point I started this conversation in the first place. Why would ONE do this?

No one seems to know why God created us in the first place?.....I don't know where to go to find the answers...I feel the same way...if the God has so loving and caring personality (I don't know what else to say) then why is he giving us so hard test for no reason...do this or you are fail, and then you are to study again to be able to sit in the same exam.....If he is so powerful, there should be nothing that can prevent him to help us......why is he giving all hardships to us....he could have made something that do not have feelings/ emotions if he just wanted to play for fun...i mean if there was no feeling in people's hearts and to feelings of physical pain...then no one would have asked why is that happening to me and that way God could get entertained and no problems for anyone or anything...and if we are part of him...does it mean its him suffering himself? does not make sense to me!

Does anyone know who wrote the following story? I think it was a Bhagat. Im not sure. A business man meets a holy man. The holy man tells the businessman that you can have all the richest goods if you go up the mountains with me. They both go to a stop and get goods, but the holy man says lets go more up and you will get more riches. The businessman says he is tired, but will go. So they go the second stop and get more richess, but the holy man says lets go more up. The businessman says how can I get any richer. But but the holy man says trust me. Both finally reach the third stop. The Businessman sees nothing but a stream of water. The businessman get angered and say nothing is here. The holy man responds "look at the water". Both look at the water and both reflection of them are of the holy man.

because the 'dukh' is attachment to materialistic things in life. be it money, or people in your life. by meditation we control such attachments and realise the true one -ie GOD. and everything and everyone belongs to him. so if we lose someone or something, we have 'dukh' without realising it was never ours.

Veerji, thank you for the hard work you do. It's really great to see your passion. However, from your presentation a viewer could conclude that all Sikhs believe in literal reincarnation, which is not true. There are many Sikhs who do like you and my parents and there are many, like myself, who believe that Gurbani does not promote literal reincarnation but uses it as a metaphor. If you could mention that you represent your own interpretation of Sikhi and the majority's that would be great.

I agree with that you said in the general sense. We do need to spend this life connecting to the creator and sustainment of life. God. The problem you have as a Sikh is that Sikhs are not spiritually enlightened. Doing certain things and practicing certain things make you a Sikh., But what it truly means to connect to God. Is connecting to God through His Spirit. Sikh do not believe this to my knowledge. If so how. Identification and connection to God, is being like God and having His mindset. The Holy Spirit of Christianity does this. But Sikhism does not.

@@anon21qwerty17 meditation without knowledge is useless. My spiritual guides whom introduced me to sihkism over twenty years ago told me that Waheguru is not preoccupied by a person's religion or spirituality but wants everyone to have knowledge. Knowledge is what makes humans different from the animals. A dog does as a dog does because its a dog. Humans can ask why they do something and decided if it's good for them. What I love about sihkism is its basic common sense. First your taught what you know already and that's to respect yourself and others and give to the community. Knowledge is the key that opens the door to God and an escape from reincarnation.

If we are 'separate' and need to merge yet there is only Ik Onkar, the Totality then why would the WaheGuru have created us as separate ? Our delusion of separation must have a purpose. Our journey to enlightenment much have a purpose. The WaheGuru did not create The Universe, Physics created The Universe. The WaheGuru created the starting conditions and the rules..physics does the rest. What if we are being 'farmed' what if the WaheGuru sows the seed that becomes the universe and we grow and some who reach perfect ripeness are harvested to...to..to move up to another level. Some are ploughed back into the soil of existence. Just a thought.

Physics is information and the 'rules' are it's language.For the illusion ..the Maya we see as Existence to occur all that was needed were the starting conditions and the rules...The language..The Word...The sound..Naam. Sin is universal problem. Sin is ubiquitous. Humanity contaminated by sin. Sin in us by default, not learnt, not taught. Sin manifests in many forms - evil, crime. Sin is the opium. The origin of sin is unanswered. My journey. Sin is pre-existing in all. Nobody taught us to sin. Sin pre-dates The Bible. The Bible explains origins of sin. The Bible provides remedy for pre-existing sin, through Jesus Christ death and resurrection. The Bible is best selling book in the world for this reason. Sin is real, The Bible is relevant. Sin is born at every child birth. Sin is disease of heart, and Jesus Christ is the cure. Satan is the enemy, came to steal, kill and destroy. Misleads us to blame good loving God. God is not the author of evil. Media, Police, Defense, Judiciary, Penitentiary, Security, Contracts confirm sin exists. The origins of life, natural laws, sin, morals, purpose, meaning, conscience, music, creativity, intelligence, beauty, color, nature, water, air, light and amalgamation, remain unevidenced - elsewhere. We love truth when it enlightens us, but hate when it convicts us. Instructing to "Heart wash" from sin is not "Brainwash". God created universe, placed natural laws, made humans in His image, gave talents, instructed to multiply and explore - The Initiation of Science. Science is the legitimate child of natural laws. Without natural laws science has no foundation. We are created with good purpose and meaning. We are good. Then sin entered through satan and we all fallen. Disease, despair, deformities, deficiencies, depression, stress, guilt, greed, hate, anger, rebellious spirit, spiritual death entered. Sin plays spoilsport. Unloose the Soul from the tight knot of sin. Soul outlasts death. Sinners cannot save themselves from sin. Jesus Christ, the Holy God, intervened, willingly died on The Cross and resurrected, for remmissions of our sins, to save us from sin and hell. We are weak at the core, however we try to portray otherwise. We need Holy God's help, who is willing to help with open arms. Unable to find any motive any reason for Jesus Christ to die willingly on Cross and resurrect - except His love to save us from pre-existing sin and hell. Nobody died for our sins and resurrected - except Jesus Christ. Exclusivity Jesus Christ claimed: "I am The Way, The Truth and The Life". "I am The Resurrection and The Life". "I am The Good Shepherd". Jesus Christ has the authority to forgive sins. Religion says "Do". Jesus Christ says "Done". Religion is man's attempts to 'search gods'. Jesus Christ came from heaven in 'search of man'. Salvation from sin and hell is not earned through works or deeds or pilgrimages or rituals or ceremonies or traditions or cultures or meditations or public displays or hypocrisy or making personal sacrifices or making animal sacrifices. Salvation from sin and hell is free, but not cheap. Because Jesus Christ laid His life on The Cross, and resurrected. God loves the sinner, but hates the sin. Just like a parent loves child, but hates disease in child. We are saved by God's grace, not by our works. Karma is getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don't deserve. Only Grace can be pre-fixed with word Amazing. Amazing Grace. Karma is not Amazing, it is depressing. GRACE: Getting what we don't deserve - i.e. forgiveness of sin, eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ. MERCY: Not getting what we deserve - i.e. punishment of sin, separation from God, eternity in hell. Other side of death is eternity. Either in hell; or in heaven through Jesus Christ. God offers grace and mercy for free through Jesus Christ death and resurrection. Jesus Christ suffered, ridiculed, spat-on, humiliated, crucified on The Cross, and therefore He understands our pain. He raised victorious, we will too. Those who endure till end are victorious. Jesus Christ coming again to judge all. The doors will be closed. Jesus Christ reveals every mystery, answers every question. We all deserve to know the truth. He is The Alpha and The Omega. He judges everyone. One day every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. The First Christmas - Jesus Christ came to earth from heaven to save us from pre-existing sin. The First Good Friday - Jesus Christ crucified to The Cross, died willingly for remission of our sins. The First Resurrection Day, also linked to Easter - Jesus Christ resurrected from death. Jesus Christ made entry to Holy Heaven free through Him. Repent of sin and be saved. Easy. The First Coming of Jesus Christ - He is Lamb, slaughtered for remission of sins to save us from sin and hell. And resurrected. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ - He will be Lion, The Judge. The Lamb and The Lion. Jesus Christ forgave all who crucified Him, and now forgives all, even who reject, ridicule and mock Him. He loves all unconditionally. Believe, trust, repent of pre-existing sin in Jesus Christ that He died for remission of our sins and resurrected, and coming back to judge, accept Him as Lord and Saviour, and be saved from sin and hell. Any time, any where. Even now. Simple. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. I found God loved me regardless of sins, weaknesses and rejections by others. As sinner I cannot save myself through deeds. He believed me and has faith in me. I am not in competition with others. God loves you all, individually. (My journal. Journey to life - after testing all 'isms' and religions, after failing to find origins, purpose and meaning of life, after swallowing pride, egos, anger, hate, depression.)

@@davidvarley1812 Sin/evil is ubiquitous. Everyone is infested with sin/evil. Nobody teaches to tell lies, and we lie. Police, judiciary, jails, passwords, media prove sin/evil exists. Karma is getting what we deserve ie punishments for actions and sin. Grace is getting what we don't deserve ie forgiveness of sins for free. Karma is not amazing, it is depressing. Grace is amazing and free. We are not saved by our own deeds, rituals, ceremonies, cultures, celebrations, life-style, public displays, pilgrimages. They are merely self-gratifying activities. A dirty cloth cannot clean itself. We cannot clean our own sins. An external agent or external power only can clean. Jesus Christ came from heaven in search of humans. Jesus Christ came for one purpose only - to die on cross for remissions of pre-existing sins for every single person and to resurrect.
