I am dealing with pythium on my PRG/KBG. Purchased some mefenoxam at over $100 for a pint. Stuff is expensive. I thought having an elite grass type I would not see much fungus but the opposite has been true thus far.

That’s pretty expensive for such a small amount. Pythium is a tough one.

not sure if this what we're experiencing down here in NC - have had hardly any rainfall so far this Summer - we have outright red blotchy patches in front and backyards - can it be spread via lawn mower from one lawn to another? if it's not red thread is there something else that it could be?

Some diseases can spread from the lawn equipment. Good practice would be to keep the lawn equipment clean.

Can you just spray the problem spots or is it important to spray the whole area?

This application cures the problem and prevents it from happening in other areas of the lawn. So a blanket application is appropriate in this case.

Any idea when I should put down my Prodiomine in Long Island, NY for the fall, to knock out Poa Annua growth in the spring? I'll reapply to control crabgrass in mid-March or early April. Thx.

Are you overseeding this fall? If not, you can to a preemergent app in the fall. If you are overseeding, you should overseed as early as possible to give the new grass a chance to grow and mature. Then put the preemergent down later in the fall, like November.

One last question on this. What about Tenacity? I understand that I could overseed and use tenacity at the same time and not worry about the pre-emergent killing the new grass. As long as it's done before the seeds germinate. Thoughts?

@@jameswidmer6972 you can use tenacity, but it won’t give you long term Pre-emergent control. Like 4-6 weeks.

Red Alert I need immediate advice 🙂 So i live in BC canada and this winter we had some -40c for couple weeks and because my kids compacted the snow in the back yard so i didnt have the 3-4 feet of snow to insulate the ground my lawn did NOT grow back in the back yard (it kinda did near the fence and house where the snow wasnt compacted or the heat from the house helped, but the front is fine where the snow protected. Questions I have are. Do i need to kill everything in the back with chemicals and then rototill it or can i just till in the weeds that have become my new lawn? Once tilled how do i determine ratios of what to add in terms of Sand, Compost, etc? Do i need to PH test? Also I had been getting a white powder on the grass mostly near the house or along the fence is this a mildew or disease? and if I'm resetting with a tiller do i need to worry about it? FYI, this lawn was planted aproxx 10 years ago as SOD and it was thick and doing well until this year.

Sounds like your lawn had some disease/fungus. In the US, the two most commonly used fungicides are Azoxystrobin Propiconazole. Not sure if these are available in Canada. If you want to start over, it’s always a good idea to get a soil test and test the pH. But if you add soil, you are likely changing the soil chemistry too and may need to retest. If you need to amend your soil to correct pH, roto-tilling the amendments into the soil is the best thing you can do.
