‘No pain, no gain’ sums up the relationship between effort and ability. But is transhumanism about to change all that?
Transhumanism aims to improve human capabilities by making use of emerging technologies, such as nanotechnology, AI, and genetic engineering.
But why do its detractors call it just another marketing scheme devised by Silicon Valley?
In this episode, adapted from the hit Arabic-language series Dahaleez, Egyptian-born actor Amr Waked explores the concerns that haunt him about how the human species may be on the brink of a very radical change.

That's not the same thing as transhumanism. Those are just metal parts to replace damaged body areas. Transhumanism is total emergence of humans with machines, an intertwining of the two. I will never give up parts of myself for being part machine. That is degrading to my humanity. Just as the protagonist of this film states, he wants his entire humanity intact. No merging with a machine could ever make us better human beings. That is up to our willingness to surrender to God and His ways. And my God is the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. So, no thanks. I reject transhumanism. It is far inferior to the humanity God gave me and far inferior to the life He has given me in Jesus, my Lord and Savior.

What cost of immortality? The friends and family who decided not to whither and die around you only to become a distant memory. Technology evolves but also breaks down. Imagine having to go to a shop or facility for cybernetic maintenance when something goes wrong or breaks.

I love the way you think. Mortality is what makes life special. Knowing that I am fragile, that I can easily be killed or hurt, is what makes me love others more. Since, I know there is a point I will not see them again. Immortality removes that fragility, which makes it easier to forget to treat others properly, with love, respect and compassion.

Pain is what it is to be human. Image living as a computer game avatar. You have no pain, you can achieve amazing acts, you can hit a 2000 foot homerun. But you camt feel the bat in your hand or the energy your muscles exert. You feel nothing. So where pain or its opposite, you lose out on being human.

@@tads73 as humans evolve and transcend beyond being just human as we are now, they will still have pain. To think they would not still have pain is to have a shallow child like view of what humans are evolving into. Now, the types of pain may change and may be very different from what we know now. But, the kinds of pain we humans can feel compared to a very simple animal like a roundworm is very different different. A transhuman who has fully evolved from everything we will learn from passing through the technological singularity we are inside of will be as much more advanced than us as we are more advanced than a roundworm. So, if and when they want to feel pain like us, they will be able to, but they will also be able to experience pain in ways far beyond our ability to even comprehend.

A couple more things for food for thought. (1) The qualia hand puppet of self-aware consciousness that most people think of themselves is a sub-swarm intelligence which only perceives a very processed for presentation virtual reality simulation of what the whole swarm mind of in individual human senses of the actual world around us plus the mistakes and hallucinations added into the VR being presented. That hand puppet piece is a part of the sub-swarm intelligence of the whole self-aware consciousness which is a fuller understanding of the most important part of our whole swarm mind to us, that part we identify most as being. That whole self-aware consciousness is in turn a piece of the whole swarm mind. The whole swarm mind has many subswarm parts which are complexly organized and interconnected. The may point is, what you probably think of as you experiences everything through a virtual reality being presented to it. (2) Most transhumanist technologies right now you probably do not realize are transhumanist technologies. Perhaps the first and most extremely altering to our minds transhumanist technology is "Language". Yes, language is a technology. Language allows us to extend parts of our minds outside of ourselves in the form of information which can be stored or transferred to other minds. Using this technology of language from birth through growth of childhood and even thru the rest of life actively physically changes the neurological wiring of the human brain and thus has a massive effect upon how we think. To understand what a true pure human being without the technology of "Language" altering them would be, look at what a feral raised child is like. Now, we tend to accept things we are used to and only think of things that we know little about, are new, and maybe have not yet been developed when thinking of transhumanist technologies. But, a cell phone, which compared to the 30 ton supercomputer ENIAC built in the 1940s today's cells phones are much more powerful supercomputers you can carry in your pocket, that cell phone is a transhumanist technology. With it you can have audio and visual conversations with people across the world. With it you have access to the vast knowledge of humanity stored on the Internet. With it you can listen to someone talking in a language you do not know and have it translate that verbal sentence into your language. With it you can do a vast number of things that a normal human could not do without that technology. The latest bionic eyes, bionic ears, bionic prosthetics, and such which directly interface with the human neurological system is a transhumanist technology. Now, I would not suggest anyone use this crude technology unless they have lost an eye, are deaf, have lost a limb, or such serious disability; because the neurological probes still need significant improvement, have a limited life span, and are simply no where near as good as the original human parts if those parts are working. Neuralink, for example, is expected to last about 6 years at this time, which I do not consider very good. Now, eventually we will develop the technology to blend living and non-living neurological links which will last a life time and will fully connect with neurological system with full resolution, just like living neurons would. Then we will see bionic eyes, which will have the resolution and capabilities equal to that of a perfectly healthy eye at, before any kind of degradation. Further, such an eye could be able to infrared and ultraviolet, as well as have some degree of telescopic and microscopic magnification abilities. On top of that it would almost certainly provide a virtual reality overlay under your mental control which could provide all kinds of additional useful information, basically allowing you to have full visual enhanced reality (the combination of visual actual reality and virtual reality) any time you wanted. Further, this would likely be combined with a bionic ear with a hearing resolution of perfect human level prior to any degradation, also allowing for enhanced hearing capabilities, but most importantly combining with the cybernetic eye to REPLACE YOUR CELL PHONE. Thus, with such a higher tech bionic eye and ear, combined with all the functions of a cell phone and more, by thought you would have access to all the information your cell phone has access to, being able to present it through a visual and audio enhanced reality, and such augmentation would last a lifetime, at least until you wanted to upgrade it. Note that it may take us 20 years, 40 years, 80 years, or more to perfect this technology. More likely sooner majorly transforming transhumanist technology you might use will be something like Ozympic, available now, even though it is not perfected and thus has unwanted risks. It is medical breakthroughs which will be allowing us to cure diseases and disabilities, including the disease of old age and including many severe birth defects that are already are beginning to be available, like the CRISPR-mediated gene therapy for curing Sickle Cell Disease. (3) When we eventually perfect true full virtual reality technology, it will 100% include all human sensory capabilities at full perfect human level resolution, except far, far more. It will be 100% possible to feel pain, pleasure, etc., but there will be controls upon it that the individual will decide for themselves. The real problems such technology will bring is not the lack of being able to feel, but (a) how such technology could be abused and (b) how such technology might make some people want to give up their physical body and live fully within a virtual reality where they can actually feel much, much more than their physical body can.

The challenges presented in this video definitely speak to the need for justice and compassion in any pursuit of a transhumanist future. If we seek enhancement technologies in a way that ignores our free will and the intrinsic value of our lives (no matter their duration), that takes suffering from the wealthy and not from the poor? Then I fear we really will have lost our humanity, rather than extending or expanding it.

i deeply appreciate this piece. phenomenally placed argumentation and production. i, as both a budding tech/medical researcher, and philosopher, state that death, pain and struggle are going nowhere. the agony a mind can experience extends far beyond the agony available merely from physical ailment. suffering is going nowhere, it is merely evolving. struggle is going nowhere either. this "battle against the self" will only be thrown into stark contrast with a potentially infinite life. we will get bored, and find new horizons to challenge ourselves. the agony of meaningless existence is far greater than the discomfort of mere flesh pain. we will find motivation to seek meaningful struggle. with greater reach and strength arrive greater challenges. as for death, remember things like an immortal body can still be crushed by a rock or hurled into a star. in the end, if you afterwards able to be maintained as pure awareness which can be downloaded into a new frame/body, or exist purely as data, in the long run, the ending of life may end up being a choice. perhaps a death well chosen after aeons of wandering, exploring and being will offer a satisfaction not available to us traditionally. i do warn and maintain that our species' issues of economic/philosophical privilege, resource and access differentials needs to be addressed rapidly, or new systems of have and have not will organically form.

You cannot download meta physical essences or recreate them. Memories are finite experiences akin to dark matter or other substances for which we cannot explain. TH will replicate copies of original material. Every time a copy is forged it loses a bit of its original blueprint. Face your fears or live forever as a craven. Genuine always recognizes its counterpart generic.we are attributes of experience and personality. The risk of joining the collective is far more dangerous than death.

You want to be superman. How about just being stronger and more enduring that you would have been? That came from technologies we created. You want to live twice as long? Three times as long? You do, early man died very early. We didn't evolve to live longer. We changed how men age. There is nobody alive today who's known a time before men were changing humanity, we've just been slow to adopt the era name Homocene.

But apart from religion there you go apart They are actually in the frame of mind that suffering and pain are needless. That suffering is totally logical totally that it can be removed and that were their focus is that they're on their way to remove suffering and pain. Imagine a world free of suffering and pain. This does not mean that you will stop learning. There's always something new to learn. Having said that, having stated that I do realize that we couldn't really have a physical body anymore because we would have no pain any more pain receptors. No nerve endings. Being has a tendency to 'return' to clusters ='the nature of solidarity' -a desire for empathy -(Wave)-(yin) and also, Being has a tendency to 'exist' as individuals ='the nature of self-expension' -a desire for breed-(Particle)-(Yang) Likewise, humans have two elements. We must realize that we all have both left and right elements =Solidarity and Self reliance No one has only one element. so 'Sum' derived from 'two poles' , (thesis, antithesis, synthesis) To develop intellect and ethics by harmonizing the two, It is good to realize it and balance it properly But A few people polarized the crowd(political partisanship) without balancing themselves. And They stole only the sum, only the synthesis from the triangle composition. Now We all have to get out of this deceptive situation. This is not the time for us to hate each other. We have to track down those who have been manipulating us.

Some family people want a real doc or something. Usually i do not give medical advise like the guy in Equals had a split personality.

8:11 Help them, yes. But if they are a bunch of soulless organic portals meatsuits, like the swarm mode in Matrix 4 or They live 👽 in human disguise, not really. If they weren't that, I will never ever, EVER, ask or request to be, like Faust or induce in them becoming like Kira from Death note, mankind is becoming a mirror image of Lucifer, pride was his downfall. Why I would desire that for my loved ones. I don't desire them, to spend their eternity in becoming Pinhead and it's Cenobites playthings, that's reserved for most of you. ☺😉 Don’t get me, wrong, I don't desire to myself, what you do, to yourselfs is up to you, it's your responsability, each reap what they sow.

Here are some things Jesus Christ said of Himself. “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." John 3:18 Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. Matthew 16:13-17 Skeptics said for centuries, said "The bible we have now has been corrupted through the centuries.". In 1947 the Dead Sea Scrolls were found and proved otherwise. They said, "There's no way Israel can become a nation again as God promised in preparation for the end times.". Israel became a nation again in 1948. All this being said, it does require faith to believe. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Also John 20:27-29 states, "Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Don't be deceived, Jesus is the Son of God and the only way of being saved from God's judgement for our sin. Christ consciousness won't save you. Believing Jesus was an ascended master, a prophet or a good teacher won't save you. Romans 10:9 tells us how to be saved, "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved". Trust in Him, He shed his blood and gave His perfect life for you. Call on Him, He loves you, and He hears you.

Interesting how Al Jazeera only interviewed people very biased against transhumanism when the question about self-enhancement came up, and ended it with a cheesy clip playing guitar by the shore saying "I'd rather have my imperfect human hand", as if the evil sinful haram transhumanists would force you to make such changes to your body. Only relevant part of the video is at 13:44, everything after that is religious vomit.
