I worked as a customer service representative in the travel industry for almost 3 years and spoke with a lot of travel agents and must say they had to stay strong and stand for their clients, I really admire that, even though they were yelling at me 😅😅😅 I understand they were doing their job. Also a lot of patience is needed and lots of emotional intelligence as well, resilience and those soft skills make a travel agent stand out from the rest. One thing I am always curious about is how travel agents can be accountable for things that are not under their control for example when flights are cancelled, and build a good reputation over the years. I love that perspective! As travel agents, we want to take care of our clients from the beginning of their journey to the end. Unfortunately things happen like, weather, sickness etc. Most agents do charge fees so we are accountable for when things go sideways, including cancelations. With that being said, we will do our best to get them on the next available flights. When clients see how hard you are working for them to make their trips less stressful, they see how much value travel agents have. 🦋

Hi Cindy, I am considering to become a Travel Agent. My problem is the I can’t find a host agency that is available for international agents (I’m from Europe). Do you happen to know any agencies that are willing to accept international agents or someone who could help me in this situation? Thank you

It varies from agency to agency but yes, there is a good chance of fully remote positions within the travel industry.

I remember my aunt using a travel agent back in the 1980s, but seems that apps like Expedia or Booking kind of do all this for you, including advisories.. Is "travel agent" even a thing anymore, or Am I missing something? Its pretty simple booking from the apps. And with a smartphone you will get alerts and updates, its pretty complete.

Hi There! Great question. Travel agents are very prevalent in todays day & age especially because clients would rather tell someone their vision & have it all planned for them rather than going through the stress of doing it on their own. People can use booking apps like Expedia but if anything goes wrong throughout their trip, the clients will be the ones on the phones for hours trying to fix things. If clients book with an agent, we will take care of the clients every step of the way, plan their trip exactly how they would like & make it stress free for the clients. I hope that helps!

@@wanderlustceo Thats probably a great help because trying to get ahold of Expedia or Booking for a live real person is like pulling teeth, if you are out of the country and paying by the minute for phone, it could be a real hassle. Especially when you just want to get checked in!
