As a Salvadoran Filipina, I can guarantee we have like 3 times the amount of rice compared to my other friends in our fridge at all times.

I’m Puerto Rican and Mexican. My husband is Chinese and we have a daughter who will be 3 in a few months. We’re doing our best to raise her to love herself for who she is but I always worry about the struggles that I know she’ll face once she’s out there in the real world. Most importantly, I want her to be able to stand up for herself against the bs that comes along with being mixed. This message is much needed especially in today’s very tense racial climate. This is really fascinating because I'm currently writing my final essay in my Spanish Literature class on the works of Asian Latino writers and how their identities influenced their work (specifically Pedro Shimose from Bolivia and Jose Watanabe from Peru). It's almost crazy how this video popped up as I'm writing the finishing pages of my essay! If there is anyone who can suggest Asian Latino writers/poets for me to read up on in the commemts, please let me know! Please do a video highlighting Filipino culture! Nobody even recognises our Hispanic history, not even other Hispanics. My Chilean and Mexican friends were so surprised to find out we count & tell time in Spanish, have piñatas in our birthday parties, curse in Spanish (my fave 😂) and bring our own twist to Spanish cuisine! There’s even a dialect in Southern Philippines called “chavacano” which is very similar to the Spanish language. I just found it sad that we’re not recognised for that... because 333 years of Spanish colonisation is deeply ingrained in who we are, just not exactly in the way we speak. (We speak Filipino & our dialects have varying degrees of Spanish in them.) Also, I literally say “pero like” 1000x a day 😂

Finally a video I relate to. I always felt like I was the only one, even though I knew I wasn't. I'm a girl that's Mexican mixed with Chinese. My mom is fully Mexican and my "father" is Mexican and Chinese. It has always upset me that all people think when they look at me is that I'm Asian. I don't have a problem with being part Asian. But my father was never in my life and he treated my mother really badly. Whenever someone only calls me Asian, it always feels like they are saying that I don't look anything like my mother and only resemble a person who I don't even know, or would even want to know.
