That's crazy, not as insane but in 2019, I bought a C6 RS6 that had previously been written off/repaired. I thought it was extremely fast but hadn't driven anything else like it to compare with, so didn't think much of it. I was under it, giving it a service and noticed exhaust parts from a well known tuner. I got pretty excited, sent them an email with the plate and they confirmed it had been in with them before. It had exhaust, engine tune and trans tune, making 730bhp/1000nm. To say I was stoked is an understatement as I was planning to do those and it would have been about £3.5k - £4k

When I traded in my built, big turbo, Focus ST, the dealership took it no questions asked. I'm sure the techs did an inspection after the fact, but the listing still called it stock.
@NickShelden
@NickShelden Жыл бұрын
caution: if cylinders are over-bore, a calculation may have already been made as to the viability of a turbo in future. The compression ratio will have changed, so the chance of knock may have as well. Also, the strength of the block WILL be lower, and whether or not it is low enough to be of concern is up to you. Just things to be considered before putting a turbo on an engine someone else has previously modified.

If the car had titanium valves you can’t install regular stainless valves because the titanium valves require different valves seats Like copper or bronze
@martin09091989
@martin09091989 Жыл бұрын
That is absolutly NOT the case!!! If you have engines like most single cylinder endouro/supermoto bikes you have stainless for the enduro and titanium for the supermoto because the motos get more and sustained, and higher rpm. But the valve seats are the same in material an shape. In most cases with tuning stuff, you have OTHER Vales fitet to that engine then the stock ones, in material AND shape!!! (First thing to do is get a beter flowing shape on the seats) Most of the time this requires, or at least its beneficial to have better heat transferre on the seats, not because of the valves them self, but because of the large increase of power and therefore heat! Nothing to do with the material of the valves! You can run titanium on iron seats no problem! But let me guess, you are american, and the most high end engine you know hase pushrods, two valves per cylinder and could be build from bolt on parts only!?!? 😆🤣😭

For those interested, you can easily clean the carbon from valves by blasting them w/ walnut shells. No, not eating a bunch of walnuts and throwing the shells at them. But, by buying crushed walnut shells and running them through your sand blaster. Walnut shells are significantly cheaper than buying a set of Titanium valves.

Supertech Exhaust valves are not titanium. They are inconel sodium filled. It’s actually really easy to clean them up even with a lot of build up. Brake clean and 3m scotch rite red pad. Put the valves in a drill press and have some patience. Don’t use the chuck just use your hand to put the valve in. You can also just put a rag on the stem. This method works better than a hot tank or an ultra sonic tank. It’s Much faster also.

My mother bought a slightly used (only 3k miles) non-badged Chrysler Conquest TSI back in 1987. When she got it home, my dad and I looked under the hood to check out the turbo. It had a small dial with a needle and the numbers 1-7 around it. Weird. The needle was on 1, but my dad turned it up to 7 with a flathead screwdriver. Turns out it was equipped with an aftermarket turbo from the factory. Corvettes couldn't even keep up with this beast. After smoking 3 clutches in four years, my mother traded it in for an Eagle Talon. To this day she regrets that decision. It was a beautiful car. Women.

0.25 mm over bore is not bored in a performance sense, it’s just the smallest increment of cylinder cleanup. That translates to 0.5% increase in displacement and is truly irrelevant.

Definitely not the route to take for a naturally aspirated build where displacement is king, but I would bet that that little engine in that S2000 had a centrifugal blower on it at one point like a Rotrex or something similar. You tend to leave as much wall thickness as possible on boosted engines.

Guys get a bolt, cut the head off, pop the suction cup off the wooden handle slip it on bolt. Install it in your handy power drill, as for lapping compound just go to local NAPA store and buy the Permatex brand you don't need that course/fine bullshit. Also pick up a tube of Prussian blue OR a black permanent marker. Put small blob of compound on valve spread around, drop it in and spin the shit out of it. Basically weight of drill is fine for pressure, lifting every few seconds as it spins. When you get them lapped, use marker to "paint" face of the valve and insert into clean port, push with thumb and turn by stem. Just slight turn. Remove it and see if it rubs marker off all around.

i have been lapping valves for marine enginew on tankerships and industrial equipment for 15 years now. the lapping should be done with a leveled engine head, and the valve should be raised-smashed-rotated, imitating the actual movement of the valve. and every so often rotate the valve a quarter or so until it goes full circle. this will guarantee uniform lapping and conditioning without streaks on the metal that might end up in burned valves

My dad bought me a 2004 Silverado with my money without telling me cause it had a new 5.3 with 30,000 miles on it. Turns out the dude he bought it from built drag truck for a living and it was cammed with forged internals along with everything from bumper to bumper being new aftermarket parts. That was my first truck and it only cost me 4,000.

Those titanium valves are salvageable. Titanium is incredibly hard, you could go to town scraping off that carbon and the values will be spotless.

A little bit of walnut blasting at your local you-blast place would have cleaned that carbon right off without damaging the valves. I don't care what kind of storm you had, there's not supposed to be water in your trunk. You've got a water leak, probably tail light gaskets. The trunk seam funnels water right onto them. Also, I'm not 100% on the S2000, but those plugs are often sealed from the factory. Even if they're not, those plugs are meant to seal the trunk. They'll keep water out (or in) without a sealant. So leave the PO alone and fix that water leak... after you sort out that vacuum leak.

The plugs are in there like that from the factory. Water shouldn't be getting into your trunk. That's the problem. Likely your convertible top drains are backed up or your trunk seal is letting water past and its leaking in. Valves were totally saveable too. Oh well though!

At 9,000 RPM that car should have come stock with the Dual valve springs, and if it's bored out to 2.5 that would also mean that your red line should actually be somewhere between 8600 to 8800, Too Much reciprocal weight. Unless it is very well rebalanced. You might also want to check your rings quite well. And I would also have her to Guess that your PVC system is leaking like a sieve. Hey do you think you can use a little bit more lapping compound. You have probably three times more than you need. You start with the fine lapping compound because you shouldn't need a course lapping compound. It should be no more than 600. 400 you can get away with but 600 works fine. If you have a particular problem, lapping compound isn't going to fix it anyway. I know the heads are already back on it but a little bit of dry Teflon spray on the top of those Pistons will keep carbon from sticking to it. Another old trick is just smear the very slightest amount of Dielectric grease on it and that works as well. Spray some deep creep on the bottom of that trunk and allow that oil to soak in to that metal and also do it on the bottoms of the doors and around all the folds around the fenders. It will keep rust from it, I don't care where you live, but it will keep that car far more pristine for a long time.

*.25 over…. And ima disagree he hasn’t changed his bore/stroke ratio in a negative way so I think his redline is fine. And I’m sure it’s well balanced because they’re incredibly well balanced from the factory. My S2000 lived at the limiter and loved it.

If you are wanting to throw a power adder on it, or build a high compression, send it to a good shop so they can get a fresh cut on the seats if you are putting new valves in. There is a LOT going on with a valve other than an airtight seal.

Did you check the cams? Usually the first tell tale signs are engraving on the cam. Had my fair share of jackpot find with half cut engine from Japan scrapyard. Good luck guys...
