Күн бұрын

Writer/director Sam Email joins the show to discuss his new Netflix film Leave the World Behind (starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, and Kevin Bacon). He details his relationship with Barack Obama and his role as a producer, how influences from the likes of Stanley Kubrick make it into his own work, and more.
On Friday, we’ll be back with another full episode, and an exciting interview featuring two first-time guests to the show. …If it happens. Wish us luck!

One of the things I love about this film and the ending is that it does literally feel like a dream becomes a nightmare and then ends abruptly, much like dreams/nightmares do. You never know what happens, which makes it more compelling.

how come no one asks about any of the subliminal messaging like the 666 in the opening scene or the references to slavery throughout the film like the radio station of 1619, etc.?????
@emeeul
@emeeul 8 ай бұрын
Where is 666? Timestamp please. I saw the 1619 reference, White Lion, Point Comfort etc. The racial element is strong because it permeates America and I think that’s obvious to any viewer. Someone should ask the production team though, I agree.

And the kid leads the 6 of them to the bunker where she can watch the last episode of friends that focuses on 6 characters? And even though the world is falling apart, shes content being glued to the screen as if a slave to the TV? Kinda like a distraction? Kinda like temptation? I donno, this movie seems strange to me, even as a big horror nerd. I only heard about it earlier today but ive been watching reviews and analysis videos on it and its making me think about that other Netflix film about Ohio and kinda the deeper messages and symbolism of these movies instead of just the plot. I havent seen this one directly yet but, yeah. Kinda creepy. Theres also a movie about an American civil war coming out soon thats written by the same guy who wrote 28 days later, which the special features on that DVD were really focused on making you think about how a simple real world virus could change the world forever.

I love this movie and I love Sam Esmail, but I hate these two interviewers. These two are like caricatures of the overly-eager, obnoxious know-it-all film “expert.” They jump into conversations and dish out their opinions when what the audience would really love is to hear Mr. Esmail’s thoughts on the movie he made. Ugh… 😑

As a child of God, and many other believers who are faithful, we know what is waiting for the world in the end times .. That's why we are ready and waiting upon the return of Yeshua hamashiach, Son of God, who was, who is and who is coming .. We have no fear, no anxiety .. I've watched the movie to see what they are trying to pull out of the hat .. It's okay, but definitely not picturing what's really lying ahead for people all over the world .. God is in control and all humans better repent and turn away from their love for the worldly things .. The end of days are going to come upon this world in the blink of an eye .. Turn away from evil and do God's will .. There will be no escape, for no one, unless we are faithful to God .. Love one another and pray without cease .. Period

About half an hour into the movie. So what I'm seeing is rich, liberal family want to leave their rich homes and spend time holidaying in a rich rental. Owner turns up and Julia plays Karen. May have been more relevant if the owner had been Jewish bearing in mind the obvious discrimination going on. The problem with these virtue-signalling movies is that they are not subtle. As a viewer, you are not allowed to come to your own conclusions and you're hit over the head with several messages that are not realistic and magically do not apply to anyone involved in the film. Who are they trying to appeal to? Other rich liberals? Not exactly kitchen sink is it! 1/10 - try again.

Weird. We vacation at these places (as black people that can afford it) and we could relate to the whole film very well. I also work in the energy sector and the premise is an actual threat we plan for. Lastly, the acting was just ok, but I love all the Easter eggs, metaphors, and historical references.

@@emeeul ah well, I'm just a poor white girl so I doubt you can relate to me. You're obviously richer and more privileged. I certainly can't afford to spend what was it? $2,000 for a weekend? A rich film made by rich people for rich people it would seem... However, I found the film viewed a bit like clearing out Obamas' closet of phobias and insecurities. No reason, no solution, no warmth in any of the characters. no hopeful ending. How very comforting for Americans.

@@user-xv3zr4lm1j You were the one who brought up your colour, dear lol. I just answered. Of course I'm going to view the film through my own perspective and my own lens, just as you are. I like films with characters and situations I can relate to. I couldn't relate to any of them. The scenario itself is pretty doleful. Not the sort of thing I feel we need to see at a time when people are already divided and scared. We want to see solutions from our politicians, not lectures. ... especially from people who give the message but don't apply it themselves.
