@@sohamvedak2523 I am not good enough for giving out advice, but i have learned two important things in terms of further study. 1st know what u want before enrol into any course (can u imagine questioning yourself why u choose the wrong major after 3 years of uni :') ). 2nd always search up the course outline before enrolment, subjects offered are depending on the university it self and will greatly influence the field of knowledge and skillset u own in the future.

This is such a cool video! I'm really glad this came up in my recommendations, I loved hearing your perspective and appreciate the message about doing your best to help. I'm also trying to study marine biology despite being raised in the desert; I just applied to colleges here in the US and plan to start next year. I'm super excited to begin since research and conservation/ecology are huge passions of mine (and I really want to get a PhD to pursue this)!

Honestly, thank you so much for this video. Its absolutely wonderful hearing such diverse talk about going into marine biology from people currently (or was once, seeing as this video now 3 years old) experiencing this, due to most of the other videos I've seen have been talking about the 'dangers' of going into the field (like the cons, all of which is good information to carry with you when going into a field, I'm not denying that fact lmao), it was really nice to see a video talking up this career path for a change when I was beginning to worry if I really would be able to stick with it

I’m so glad to hear! There’s definitely pros and cons to Marine Biology but I think it’s important to know that it’s information and a curiosity you’ll have for a lifetime, so stick with it even after university! Even 5 or 10 years down the track you can still be involved in research and protecting the marine environment 💙

Hi! I am looking into going into marine biology but I am rubbish at maths and all sorts. Of course, I am still willing to put in work but I want to do dive and lab work, is there a specific career or specialty for this? Because I learn a lot better hands-on. Thank you!

If you like diving some ideas could be a scuba instructor or even an underwater photographer! And for lab work you can always volunteer your time on boats and in the lab to get some experience to see if you would like it!

Hey big question what can I do for volunteering I don’t live by an ocean or anything! But I really wanna start now in away I can help. I’m only 16 but I wanna try my best to get started a soon as I can. Also do you have any good college I could maybe look at I’m from USA and I don’t know where to really look at.
@Melkymann
@Melkymann 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Christian! Great question! I grew up in the desert in Australia so I know how you feel. The best way to look out for the ocean while you’re far away is to minimise your waste (plastics, food, and natural resources), plant some trees, recycle, make a veggie garden at home, and find a way to help out in your own natural environment if there is a local action group or council! It doesn’t matter how far away we are from the ocean, doing our part to help our own natural environment helps the ocean out as well, and makes us all better eco friendly citizens! But keep researching the ocean and questioning why things are the way they are! One day you’ll be in the ocean and you can join the rest of us trying our best to help! I hope that helped!!

@James Melky , hey so I really don't know like, I'm not gonna lie, I hate science I'm not great at maths and I don't know exactly what I wanna do when I'm older, except that I love the sea, snorkeling is the place where I've always felt most at home or happy, but obviously im not a scientist have you got any suggestions for careers in which I get to work closely with the animals?

Hey! Maybe this is asking too much but I’m taking a gap year before I study zoology, and I was wondering if you know of any volunteer opportunities? @@Melkymann I’m not sure yet! I’m definitely going to have to work for a couple months (while staying in my house in England) just so I have the money to be able to travel and possibly do volunteering if I can find some! :) I have family in Puerto Rico and Brazil so that’s a possibility, but I LOVE the idea of Australia, it seems so beautiful (though I’ve never been).
@Melkymann
@Melkymann 3 жыл бұрын
@@anniemcmahon6778 there’s definitely some cool opportunities on that side of the globe! I have a few friends who have studied and lived in Brazil, and Costa Rica which always seem to have turtle conservations and other marine volunteering and internships. I’m sure Puerto Rico would have similar opportunities! As for Australia, there’s heaps of islands near the east coast of queensland which are always looking for people to work there, usually on their gap years. Also on the west coast, in Exmouth (near Ningaloo reef) there’s opportunities all the time to work with dolphins, whale sharks, and other marine opportunities. If you’re able to get your expenses paid while you volunteer as well (which lots of remote places offer) that would mean less time saving up while in England, and more time on the water :) Also, planning a video on this topic soon! So stay tuned..

I was/am in the same boat as you (no pun intended). I was planning to become a neurologist and now am looking at Ichthyology or marine biology. I'm just going to explain why I decided that a medical career may not be right for me, and maybe it'll help you. 1. Travel, travel, travel. Many medical fields have opportunities for travel but can also lead to no true "home base" and travelling is not always an easy option for all medical positions. Secondly on that note, I live in the US but would prefer not to stay in the US. I found that the cost of medical school would be impossible to pay off in most European countries and didn't want to hinder my travelling abilities housing and me time wise. 2. I personally struggle heavily with my anxiety and stress levels but have learned to cope over the years (especially after therapy), but found that most medical scenarios would really damage my mental well being and especially with my issues of existentialism, hospitals may not be a great place for me. 3. The fun of it. Imagine literally being paid to spend time with animals and find new things in the world of science, it sounds like so much fun. 4. Personal interest. I just found that marine sciences seemed a lot more fun to read and look in to and would give me opportunities to truly look closer at something I am interested in. Even though I have strong feelings about mental health and illnesses, I also truly care about the entire world of science and for me, it just came down to looking at the life I wanted and what the long term affects would lead to a happier and more fulfilling life for myself. I hope this helps a bit :)
