At the early age of 3, Andrew Berger’s life would change forever. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Like most Type 1 Diabetics, he struggled with his T1D - overweight and with uncontrollable blood sugars. His A1C would fluctuate between 7%-10%, most of his early and adult life.
In 2018, Andrew started to see the quality of his life deteriorate. Not only was he at least 50 pounds overweight, he developed his first diabetic complication, retinopathy. He knew a change was needed but no one told him where to begin. He started Weight Watchers for the 5th time, which failed him every try.
One day at the gym, trying to eat less and move more, Andrew stumbled upon Vinnie Tortorich’s podcast “Fitness Confidential.” Within 2 months, he lost 15 pounds and the weight would continue to drop.
As of today, Andrew, 29, now on the Carnivore Diet, primarily eats just red meat and water. He has lost 70 pounds. His A1C went from 7.8% in 2018 to a best ever, 4.9%. He’s down from 60 units of insulin a day to just 9 units. In addition, his eyesight continues to improve on its own and his blood sugars are stable.
Andrew is committed to spreading his message to other Type 1 Diabetics, that they too, can live a normal life.

This is so emotional for me right now.. I was diagnosed just some months ago and am crying right now because I was convinced before watching this that I have a death sentence, I've been trying to be so positive telling myself everyday that it's not my fault but it's my responsibility and cutting out all the garbage carb while my dietitian telling me I don't have to be obsessed to this extend and have to enjoy my life, honestly she gets me so down everytime I talk with her because they don't understand how scared I am of dying everyday multiple times a day.. this is a ray of hope for me. Thank you for sharing this both of you, from the bottom of my heart ❤ I appreciate it so much.

The carnivore diet has helped reduce my blood sugar substantially. It will also reduce your need for insulin and I am a T1D. The use of a CGM and insulin pump is instrumental in your healthcare journey.

Hi!! Yes, go low carb! Get into a keto-carnivore rhythm of eating. It gives you so much more control and it kills your cravings for “treats” foods. The medical system was trained to apply more medicines and refrain from assigning you a designed meal plan, which is a terrible approach!! Keto-carnivore gives you the power!! Watch all dr Berry videos!! Learn real knowledge about insulin. 👍🏼🤠

You're stronger than you think. I was 18 when I was dx in the middle of a horrific battle of bulimia. The combination almost killed me. Today I am 45 year old and still breathing, still fighting and still pushing through the fear. Low carb helps me keeps spikes down and less fast acting insulin also helps sever drops. Mt a1c has been 4.9-5.2 for almost 20 years. Use the technology we have to help. I'm sending my love. It's isolating but others know your pain.

This was an excellent interview! Good for you Andrew! My 10 year old son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in April. Shortly after diagnosis, we started him on a mostly carnivore diet. He had to take insulin the first month after his diagnosis. After that first month we stopped giving him insulin because we noticed he was going really low. He has not had to take insulin for the last three months and his bloods sugar levels remain in normal range. We are praising God for his progress! Andrew, I pray that you willl continue to achieve great success and that your story will inspire hope in many!

@@suburbanhomesteadliving9212 same! We lived in a housing addition for 20 years and we're ignorant and happy 😂 Then about 3 years ago I got a feeling we should be doing something different. We moved last year to a 1915 farmhouse on 10 acres. Not a lot of land but enough for now. We've got chickens (40+), getting cows and currently working building chicken tractors for our butchering chickens. We both work full time right now so it's difficult. We've got a garden plowed and a grow tunnel from Farmers Friend. I've got seeds started at the moment. We have three kids (15,14 and 11). Our 11 yr old was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last year which sometimes has me doubting this (lol!) but since we're low carb/high protein he's been doing great. We're in northern oklahoma/southern Kansas. Where are you guys?

Yess.. no one talked about type 1 diabetics! All readily available information is always type2. I always wished they were named and known from the beginning as different names. Most people (including those in the medical field) do not understand type one and type 2 are different worlds! So glad to find this , I’m so we weary of watching my type 1 hubby more quickly deteriorate day by day. I haven’t heard such hopeful news in so long!❤️

My mother sent me to Weight Watchers when I was 13 years old because she felt I wasn't as slim as my sisters. I believe this decision was responsible for a yoyo dieting lifestyle which I struggled with my entire adult life. I look at pictures of myself at 13 and know, that my weight was totally normal. So, not only was my eating disorder psychologically triggered by my mother's obsession with my weight, but Weight Watchers indoctrinated me in a very toxic way of looking at food. All that weighing, portions, aspartame, low fat, three meals a day and snacks in between, and oh yeah... you have to eat those carbs. It is only by the grace of God that I discovered KETO. I am doing really well today. I eat one meal a day, some days twice and I keep my carbs below 20 grams a day... and some days... none at all. I don't need naps in the afternoon, I sleep well at night, my mind is really clear...( I no longer have brain fog) and I smile more. I have so much energy. KETO is allowing me to recover not only physically (major weight loss) but psychologically as well. I don't obsess about food anymore and the sight of pasta makes me cringe. Andrew's recovery is incredible. We have to spread the good news about KETO.

And the best thing is to be in charge of the eating routine, I can eat when it suits me, I can eat in most places just leaving out some carb loaded parts and I can be without food for a day if needed. Congrats Andrew & Thank you both for sharing and inspiring others !

Even over a year later, this is finding T1’s. I’m 29 year old male, diagnosed almost 4 years ago. Took a few years for things to settle down but I’ve been Leto for about a month now. Down to 4-6 TOTAL units a day. And even more recently, I’ve shifted to carnivore. Now down to 3ish units a day but with consistent exercise, I don’t believe I will be using any insulin very soon. Thanks so much for this video. This was the final little push I needed to go all in with this. Keep doing what you’re doing Dr. Berry, and thanks for the motivation Mr. Berger

So true! I knew about Keto for a long time but thought there’s no way I can eat just meat and vegetables for the rest of my life. Then, my mom died at the age of 68. She had a long list of conditions listed as her cause of death on her death certificate that I knew nothing about. Now, she also had had colon cancer and beat it years before she died. One morning I had an aha! moment and thought if I follow my mom’s diet I’ve only got 20 years left. I’ve got two boys whom I want to see grown up, get married and maybe have me some grandchildren. So, in January 2020, like every other year, I made a resolution to lose weight. But, this year was different. I didn’t want to just lose weight I wanted to save my life and promote longevity. As of today, 8/20/20 I’ve lost 65 lbs, lowered my BP and come off meds, and lowering my BG. Started low carb, then went Keto, and am now mostly carnivore. Thank you, Dr. Berry🙏

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 3, and now I'm 46. Sadly, when I was younger, I had a very severe case of DGAF attitude. I lost most of my vision to retinopathy when I was 24. It not only devastated me, but my wife left me and the kids, and I had to raise them on my own. They're all grown, and doing well, but it was hard being disabled, diabetic, and raising 3 children with next to no help, especially being almost blind and not being able to drive. I have suffered consequences that I could never have imagined when I was young, and that includes my kids having to suffer too. God blessed me, and my kids, with the ability to weather it all, and they have grown up well. If anyone is type 1, believe me, take care of yourself. Sack up and do what it takes. You will suffer, your loved ones will suffer, the consequences of not taking care of yourself are beyond your imagination. Now that my kids are grown, I'm trying to focus on getting healthier. Thank you for posting videos like this, it's intriguing, and I'm starting to consider going this route in my nutrition. Especially since all of the doctors and "so-called" experts have been telling me things that have never worked.

Michael Carney Bernstein has the mind of an engineer. They figure out the data and apply themselves accordingly. My suspicion (from watching human behavior) is that some T1s look for comfort from their food, allowing themselves to believe the ADA bullshit because it tells them they can have T1 and eat their cake, too. Until their eyes, gut, or neuropathic pain slaps them back into reality, they get away with it. I just hope the damage isn’t too bad to recover from, and that they find the Bernsteins and Berrys out there to guide them home.

Love your videos. I started Keto with IF about a month ago and I know you speak highly of Carnivore. I have tried all there is on the market and this works!!!! Pounds fluctuate here and there however i have been taking before and after pic...Wow...I would have never thought this would work. I had 5 kids and a set of twins that stretched my body way out of proportion. Finding comfort in food is where I was before this. My mind now is that food is not a Need like I got to have it or gonna get sick. I started this with my kids and within weeks one of my children had bad eczema...it is gone..like gone gone...So happy. I want to see the progress now until January. Thanks for the videos!!

@@moreonplantempires3000 Doctor Bernstein does a low carb diet, just like Dr. Berry discusses on his channel. Keto/ketovore/carnivore all strives to eat cleaner foods lacking wheat, soy, corn, high omega 6 oils and reduce the toxin load in the body, and carnivore is just animal foods/dairy alone and most get into ketosis. I'm not diabetic, but I'm a nurse that does ketovore 3 yrs and its the BEST decision I've ever made in my life!! Do the research before you start and be safe with your doctor. Look up Dr Bernstein low carb and you will find him. He is an old man, but the oldest t1d!

Great interview. When I was diagnosed T1D 4 yrs ago (at 40), I ended up on a Keto diet, of my own volition, due in no small part to Dr. Berry. I just saw it as if I can eat to reduce the amount of insulin I need to take, I'm going to do that. It's been great, honestly. My last A1C was 4.9%. Thanks Dr. Berry and thanks to Andrew.

I do believe Keto is saving my life. After many years of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which has never been leveled off and I have felt bad for 19 years, I ended up in the hospital one more time... with life threatening metabolic symptoms. Let us add type 2 Diabetes. I am fed up. Time to try Keto. I have been on the Keto diet only 8 days. I have lost 10 pounds in water weight. Inflammation is virtually GONE. fasting blood sugar is within acceptable levels. I can get up the stairs without the handrail. I can think clearly. I have no more digestive symptoms. I am sleeping much better. I have taken a photo and I do not even look like the same person. swelling in my face is gone. I cannot wait to see the results longterm. First few days were rough, but I feel fantastic now. I will update in a month. I thank Dr. Berry and his wife Neisha for ALL these videos. I am living proof of the results.

Thanks for this channel Dr Berry and for standing firm on your message of hope for those suffering with both types of diabetes. And Andrew - thank you for your mission to educate also. As an aside, I found your comments about being able to stay in the sun longer without burning very interesting. I have read for years now that sunscreen isn’t good for you, avoid the sun due to skin cancer but yet get sun for vitamin D levels. Hearing your observations on ability to be in sun longer and attributing it to diet was an aha moment for me. Diet DOES have an impact on your body’s ability to handle many things. Same principle I learned with my dogs’ diet. So long as I have them on a healthy diet (for dogs), I do not need to give them flea treatments. Their body naturally repels them. Really fascinating information. Thanks again!!!

Bozeman, Montana. I started eating ketogenic meals last October, but on February 2, 2020, I fell while shoveling snow and fractured my skull, severe traumatic brain injury, went into a coma, and don't remember most of February. Breast cancer was found while I was having CT scans for the brain injury, and after surgery and radiation for that, I am still listening to everything I can about low carb and keto, resisting what some of my team of doctors believe about nutrition, because I don't want to end up with diabetes the way my grandmother did. Thank you for all the information you provide. Now that I am recovered enough to be home and make my own meals again, I am back to eating carnivore and keto food plans.

I was diagnosed at age 28 while I was pregnant with my 4th child. I had a lot of will to take care of myself having watched the father of my children and his very brittle T1. Mine was an autoimmune process, as to how it came about, no family history of anything. Luckily, I had a degree in molecular biology and understood what I was dealing with. My biggest problem was monitoring. By that time I was out of the lab and was drawing for a living. sticking myself 4 times a day or more was hell. Between the Freestyle Libre and moving a bit of Keto diet into my Mediterranean diet was a boon. I still have horrifying problems with hypoglycemia, but with the Libre it's easy to catch quickly and painlessly. Keto is not the end all be all, but it is a very good idea. I've lost weight whereas I gained it on the Mediterranean. It was nice to slap my cardiologist with my never high and now ever lower cholesterol numbers. Keyes was an idiot. I'm happier and healthier.

Thanks a lot for sharing these amazing experiences! I'm a type 1 with recent diagnosis. Maybe this can slow down pancreas decay. I'm also not happy how doctors just say "you can just eat anything, just use the right insulin" (here in Germany). But it probably needs a few medical "wonders" before normal practitioners accept this. THANKS!
