Love the run down of all the different pots and so cool to see the self watering one! And the pot can make or break an orchid so it's important to get the correct one. Great video!!

This is such an excellent video! Simple, clear, straightforward. One of the best on the subject I can find on KZfaq! This and the other one on potting media you posted recently. This is truly an honest review with education in mind to help home growers to evaluate all options available and then make the better choice depending on one's individual growing skills/conditions. I really value impartial reviews not biased by 'promotions' of sponsored fancy and expensive supplies/growing methods that more often than not benefit vendors and content creators rather than actual home growers and beginners.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this :) I sometimes go back and forth between the beginner videos and more advanced ones, many of my viewers are long time growers, but the ones with the most views tend to be these beginner series. I'll do a mix of both ❤️😘

Completely understandable! For a long time I hated clay pots for this reason but they've grown on me! We have to use what we like ❤️

Great video Nicole! I’ve been growing orchids for 15+ years and know what pots work for my orchids. However, over the years we’ve moved and my growing conditions have changed from a greenhouse in CA to an outdoor lanai in FL. Currently living in VA and I have changed growing conditions hopefully, for the last time in a set-up similar to your growing conditions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and what works for you! P.s. love your earrings!

Hi Nicole. This was a very good video. Lot’s of options out there. My favorite is clay pots using spagnum moss topped with orchiata bark. I’m trying out the self watering with my Miltoniopsis. Seems to be ok so far. It’s been so cold here and the furnace constantly going my humidity is really low and that’s with 2 humidifier running. Barely staying above 35%. It seems like there are down sides to everything. Thanks .🥰👏❤️

I've found that unglazed terra cotta pots can built up fertilizer salts that damage/kill roots, even with monthly flushings.
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 6 ай бұрын
I haven't had that experience personally, but I also do scrub the pots down every few months to clean the sludge off.

I buy deli pots and put the holes where I want them. I use the 32 oz. And the 16oz. Size. If you set the potted plant with holes into a like pot with a short level of water....humidity! Not so much watering.

Hi Nicole- Great video! Do you ever have the issue of roots sticking to your terracotta pots? Even if I only use terracotta as a cachepot for my orchids in clear plastic, the roots always stick and repotting becomes a disaster. Oh- btw- went to Tamiami and had a great time! Went to Wilson’s orchids and bought plants. Thanks for the referral!
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 6 ай бұрын
Wilson has so many nice phals. Yes, my orchids roots grow outside of the pots all the time, repotting is tough 😭😂 No easy way around it, they are just happy 😂❤️
@debracancelliere4081
@debracancelliere4081 6 ай бұрын
It’s not that they grow outside the pot - such is the life with orchids - but that the actual root sticks to the porous clay. Even if i soak the pot for an hour- roots are still stuck and I just end up ripping the root tips and more trying to repot. No one else mentions this so maybe it’s just me.
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 6 ай бұрын
@@debracancelliere4081 it's not just you, some of my orchids in clay do the same, I have to use a butter knife to get the roots off, but there can be casualties.

Hi Nicole! I'm loving this series! Would it make sense to put my Oncidium in a self watering pot? I noticed I have to water it frequently.

They are so big! I love the flowers on it, it's got two more growths coming in on both ends, definitely going to be very vigorous. When the bloom count goes up, I'll be over the 🌕❤️🥰

Hi Nicole...does you first orchid have black spot? Looks pretty severe...also do you use reverse osmosis for watering or rainwater or tapwater, and do you check the ph of your water?

Could be...but never seen leaves that color..best way to tell is look on under side of leaf for spotting
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 6 ай бұрын
That's my bc Hippodamia, it's prone to spotting and I actually increased the light and the anthocyanins turned some of the leaves purple almost. It's actually normal on that one.

I use tap water to water because it's very low in minerals here in NYC. I no longer adjust the ph of my water but used to.
