Hey Nicole! 100% the Bellina rocks my boat. I’m so into the Novelty and species phals! It’s all I buy lately. I have a couple Bellinas but if I find another I won’t be able to pass it up. I have a show this weekend so let’s see what happens. 😅😅Thanks for sharing!

I love orchids, I collect mostly scented flowers Orchid, have got around 36 with scented flowers and like 6 with unscented. I have a natural perfume in my house. I don't feed them anything, I only use rain water for all my indoor plants, as I live in Auckland, New Zealand and it rains at least twice a week and more sometimes.

Great video. I started with one orchid a couple years ago when one of my step sons gave me one for Mother’s Day. I had no idea how to grow orchids but thought I’d better learn fast as I didn’t want to kill it. It has since bloomed two more times for me and the obsession began. I have 28 now and love them all. ❤❤ 🇨🇦

Great video. I grew in a greenhouse for years, and now trying out under lights. Question- I am using the Monios T8 2 ft lights for Cattleyas etc. How far do you space the lights apart? I am using 3 strips. Thank you.
@NicoleDeanna

Thank you :) I used to have Monios lights when I began and I remember I had them just under a foot away from the tops of the cattleya leaves - maybe 8" and it worked well. The one thing I was concerned about was that in the summer the lights would get HOT - so just make sure you have a fan running so they dont' overheat when you get them that close.

3/39 of my orchids are in bud or spike right now. Two of them are under LED lights: Phal. violacea (spike) Dendrobium Hibiki (keikis with buds) My first mounted orchid, the Gastrochilus japonica is in double spike. Another great video! I have been growing a few different specimens sized cattleyas (that have resulted in several almost specimens sized divisions for each) and multiple divisions of a Sharry Baby outdoors for years and they have rewarded me with gorgeous blooms every year. A manageable collection but when I started watching several orchid channels a few years ago, my orchid addiction was born 😊. At first I would buy a mini phal from the grocery store or Lowe’s and try to grow it on a windowsill….if it made it, great and if it fizzled out, at least I hadn’t spent much for the time I enjoyed the blooms. It’s over the last year that it’s grown from an ember to a flame as a way to cope with stress from my husband’s major health issues. I have 50 indoor orchids (phals, cattleyas, dendrobiums, tolumnias, and oncidiums 🤪) and have added a few more cattleyas to my outdoor crew (16-20 depending on if my neighbor wants some divisions). Still trying to get most of my indoor orchids to rebloom, frustrating at times but that just pushes me to get more knowledgeable and try different things until I succeed. Thanks Nicole for inspiring me to keep growing 😊❤

I'm so jealous of your fragrant Phal Bellina ❤. I have a bellina x bellina coerulea cross, and so far, she's given me just gorgeous blooms but no fragrance 😢. Perhaps subsequent blooms may start kicking some out. The plant is healthy, well hydrated, getting bright and indirect light, and I keep sniffing her at various different times of the day... but so far, nothing but a very faint vanilla like smell. I should add that she gets a balanced fertiliser on a regular schedule. I just want to roll around like a spoilt toddler and cry for some strong, citrusy fragrance from her 😅. I do have another Bellina, which hasn’t bloomed yet, so I'm living in the hope that someday I'll be able to smell the gorgeous fragrance everyone raves about. ❤

Hey Nicole. I really liked this video. I have a ton of bag babies! I probably have 30 or 40 at this point. I have a question. How long do you keep an orchid that's not blooming or doing well, before you just give up on it? I have a few that I'm not too sure about, but I have a hard time giving up the ghost. Thanks for the video!
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 2 күн бұрын
That's really nice! You have good variety! Honestly I think I hold on to them for too long till they die lol. This other bag baby that I got rid of did nothing for over a year and it started shriveling up and when I touched it it was wiggling in the pot indicating it had dead roots and wasn't anchored to the pot. My best advice is - if you see that the orchid isn't growing and seems to be on the decline - perhaps separate it from the collection in case it's sick. Then if you don't see any change in about 2-3 months (no new growths no new roots, just declines further) I'd just throw it away. This is super conservative - but space is precious. The best thing that can be done is inspecting the first signs of decline - is the root system not liking the medium? Over or under watering ect, but sometimes we don't notice till its too late!

Hey Nicole, I was having the same problem with my potted vandas and I have the same set up as you as far as having plastic pots with a decorative pot on the outside. I put small pebbles, pumice or LECA in the bottom of the decorative pot and put about an inch of water in each one, then I put the plastic pot with the vanda back on top of that, and it keeps constant moisture and humidity around the plant even if the vanda dries out, for a minute, its ok. It's a great set up, just wanted to let you know.

Hi Nicole. All your orchids are beautiful. I’m curious, I seen where you have some Hoya’s in Leca, self watering. I really don’t know anything about them and I’m still trying to get my two cutting’s to root. I’ve got them in distilled water right now, but I could easily put them in Leca and self watering. Have a great weekend. 🤗🥰💐
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 2 күн бұрын
Hi Shirley! Thank you! I find that hoyas really like leca. Their roots are less sensitive than orchids and many do well in it! The only exception for me was my Hoya Finalysonii, that one i have in a succulent mix. I have a few others in succulent mix as well but just root the hoyas in water, and find that in two weeks I have roots - or if they are stubborn woody stem ones, I pot moist moss on the base of them and wrap it with some foil or plastic wrap and keep it moist and it usually gets roots going. Ive also had success with some of the more vigorous ones by sticking the stem right into self watering leca - it's humid enough so that they push roots and go from there but it doesn't always work. for me to get them to root sphagnum > water > leca - all work but sphagnum is the best one IMO! I hope that helped :))

Hi Nicole! I found spider mites this morning, too! I rinsed my plant off and then sprayed it down with a mixture of half alcohol, half water in 1 tsp of dawn dish detergent, and about 10 drops of lemongrass oil. That actually works wonders! It kills those little buggers on contact and melts the egg sacks. It works on thripes, mealy bugs, and scale too. After I treat everything. I'm going to rinse everything off. But I don't think you have to. You could also just use alcohol and water and that way, you wouldn't have to rinse anything at all, I guess. Thank you for the great video!

Hi Deanna. It's hard to pick a favorite but at this time of year ,it has to be Bellina. Mine has 2 buds ..second season to bloom. I have a question about HOYA. I have a small crimson princess who is sending off new growth that is identical to Pubicalix 😮 Are Hoyas known to revert or just change like that?? So strange.
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 2 күн бұрын
Thank you! Bellina is special :) Yes Hoyas can sometimes revert! I have a Khroniana super silver that had beautiful silver leaves that reverted to no silver leaves and just splash! They are interesting. Other points of growth might keep the variegation going though so you could probably propagate some of the older leaves. Hope that helped :)

Ah man, this one died on me, I neglected my collection summer that year due to some bad personal issues.
