It means that just because someone is Korean doesn't mean they are any different to, let's say an American or English person, so you shouldn't expect them to be any different. And just because they are Korean doesn't mean they will be perfect.

nickodemo1 In Czech Republic a lot of people call Asians aliens 😑 I hate it. And I find it really funny that Koreans are calling us aliens back even if it's just by coincidence of word's meaning😃 don't mind me

+nickodemo1 well, some "things/phenomenons" get named after something that they get reminded of/are similar (can think of an example rn, but there are bunch!!) so that means that theres a high possibility that alien got their "name" out of foreigner or vice versa ..... which would actually be pretty funny :'))) imagine the name for foreigner was inspired from the word alien :'D

The difficult thing about having a preference for Korean men is that people think non koreans like them because they have a korean/asian obsession. In that sense of the word I wouldnt even consider myself that whatsoever. I have interest in all different types of cultures, in fact I didnt becone interested in Korea, Japan, ir other Asian countries because of Kpop or kdramas. I liked the culture first and then that's how I discovered the music and genre, through my interest in cultures I learned about a lot of different genres of music and dramas from around the world. Why do I have a preference for Korean men ? Well for one, I find them attractive. Just like how some people find white people, hispanic or black people attractive. I know an asian girl who has a preference toward middle eastern men! And that's totally find thats her preference. But another thing, just because I have a preference for them does not mean I will date any Korean guy ! I have my standards. I still very much care about whats inside the most no matter if he is korean or not, and I understand that every person is different regardless of ethnicity. There are different people of every group. So no I do not have high expectation of Korean men, or think they're like how they act in dramas. Actually Ive only seen one kdrama, but still I know actors are acting. I hate how do called "koreaboos" make us non koreans interested in culture look weird or bad in any way.

Yoongi's Honey Preference is a form of fetish. How do you even have a racial preference? It's low key racism.
@shewasapoeminaworldofstatu2410
@shewasapoeminaworldofstatu2410 7 жыл бұрын
WhatReallyMatters LOL do you even know the definition of racist? Thats not at all racist. Learn your info before you start trying to prove something. How is it a "fetish" to prefer a certain type of man to be your significant other? Please tell me because I see nothing wrong with it. Im not going to date any guy just because he's "Asian" like I said he still has to have the personality traits and connection/chemistry. Me having a preference for Asian men is not being racist or fetish or what not. That's so ignorant to say. So you want me to not have a type and just date whatever guy likes me? Is that what you do? Because I dont. & obviously many others dont because people are attracted to certain people. Everyone has a preference and yes also a physical preference. Im sure you do too because that's only how majority of people are. Who are you to tell me who I should and shouldnt like?

I'm currently dating a South Korean guy since November. He lived most of his life in Korea but moved to Japan to attend university. In April 2015, he moved to my country(Ireland) to attend a language school. I met him in May when he contacted me to become language exchange partners. We quickly became friends as I helped him improve his English ability and I discovered that I loved those times during the week when we'd talk to each other. It was awkward at first and we didn't talk for very long but after a few weeks we ended up talking for hours, laughing and smiling together. He's helped me quite a bit with Korean too. I'm a beginner but I've been interested in the culture for years. I met him for the first time in person in August. Prior to this, he "confessed" to me over skype so our first meeting was like a date? We met each other in the morning and went to a cafe and talked for a long time before the restaurant he wanted to take me to opened. He brought me to a Korean place as I had ever tasted Korean food before! It was so delicious. In the afternoon, we went to the park and things got very romantic..he kissed me for the first time. Before this he caught me by surprise by holding my hand before we crossed the street together. Since then, we met each other twice. He came to my house in September, spent time in my village, met my parents, visited local attractions with me. We acted like a couple but there was no label. In October, he came to the city where I'm attending university and spent almost two days with me. He was leaving later that week so he felt like he really needed to see me again before leaving for good. He told me he wanted to maintain this relationship with me but didn't ask me to be his girlfriend until two months ago. His feelings for me got much stronger since going home, he loves me more he told me. I'm not sure what's going to happen in the future but I want to be with him. He's very sweet, hardworking and kind. He's very gentle towards me. I'm planning on visiting him Christmas 2016. His mom is very curious about me and he has spoken to her about me(what I do during my days etc) He wants me to improve my Korean so I can speak to her(I think this is a good sign) He hasn't told his family about me(that I'm his girlfriend) but I sent him a gift at Christmas and his parents were very curious "wow! she must like you a lot". He talks about marriage to me and I feel like if things keep going the way they are going, he could propose in the future once I finish in university. I'm his first "western" girlfriend and there's an age gap between us(not much, 7 years/8 in Korean)

I don't think Asians hate black people. It's just the way certain people see things. I've dated a korean before and I didn't feel unwanted or rejected, it was the complete opposite of what most people would think. On top of that I'm from the mother land. Africa.

I'm dating someone who is half English and half Korean. He's just lovely and it's interesting to see how his parents interact with him a bit differently, to hear the different places he's lived growing up, and to see his perspective on life. I think that culturally he leans more toward his English side. I didn't fall for him only because he's handsome OR Korean, though! I fell for him because he is funny, very smart, and passionate about his education! :)

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but people from every culture discriminate. I might even believe that people from homogeneous societies might have a higher tendency to discriminate than people from more diverse societies, but all societies have issues with racism and discrimination. Don't be fooled. However, every culture has very nice and wonderful people, too. :) And my boyfriend is one of the people who makes the world a nicer place to live in. :) You sound like a nice person, too, with an optimistic attitude like that. :)

I am currently engaged in my best friend from Seoul, South Korea. We were sort of pen pals, but ICQ back in the late 90's. We stopped for a while then wrote again a few years later. I found that she had met someone and was progressing well in life. I moved on with my life. We stopped writing for some time again, this time much longer as life had changed for us both. I went through many relationships, many of them felt like "relationships", with us only acting like we are expected to do in a relationship, and didn't feel any real love. My life was going downward because the economy was falling hard and fast. So I decided to go back to college and get a better life going. After another terrible and heartbreaking relationship, I didn't have many friends left because of all the time I spend studying and working. I decided to write to her. We haven't stopped writing since May 2014, and are currently engaged. It's kind of hard because she till lives in Seoul, and I in Connecticut, USA. I travel to see her every March, and she comes to see me every September. But we are dedicated to one another. I can't just move to Korea right now with school, and she has a good job now. But we are planning on making our decision to be together by the years end, or beginning next year. I love her more than I could love anyone, and she comes first in my life. We don't need talk to show one another our love, we feel it, and I can't wait to spend many quiet beautiful evenings with her in my arms.

My boyfriend now is Korean and honestly I will say the only difference is his culture. I must say I've always been attracted to Korean men, but they were either not interested in dating a Haitian woman or focused on school (which is fine). Now all I do is learn about his culture and he is planning a trip so we can go to Korea together. It is being with another human being and eve though other people see our colour difference I see him as my man and he sees me as his woman and that's it.

I'm half korean and half white. I have an extremely hard time dating any asian ethnicity or any girl period. I think it's because I don't have in common with them and my appearance is different than casual or preppy. Yes that's right, have really long hair, likes heavy metal, likes anime, like to play games, goal driven, a little bit shy but not that bad, personality & attitude a great mix between goofiness and serious, also very does not drink/smoke/weed or any drugs ( literally almost everybody does this especially weed) and non militant (I think this might be the biggest reason if not then my long hair scares them). And really the only type of girls that are not my type are the chubby ones, but that's just me. I doubt the "right" people judge people by looks either and even then I'm not bad, average in weight and maybe a 6.5 through 8/10 on the handsome scale. Most people look for character if they are loyal, honest, trustworthy or what have you. But the weirdest thing is even though I have these qualities, I'm still not their "type" and this really confuses me. I'm also aware that some women like to use men or just something to brag about like the man has a lot of money or he has a really nice car, which I do not have and honestly I rather not date a woman who thinks like that. So with that being said, I still don't know how to get any date and sometimes I just give up and find other things productive with my life.

My dad immigrated from Korea as a boy only to grow up in the US and marry his college sweetheart my mom, a white girl from Michigan. Their relationship wasn't accepted initially. You need to understand the perspective. My Korean grandparents had an arranged marriage (based on the Korean caste system). My paternal grandmother was a descendant of the Yangban traditional ruling class of nobles. To marry a foreigner was definitely looked down upon at the time. Over time, my Dad said his parents came to accept and love my mother in spite of her not being Korean. My Harmonee lived with us since we were babies until her death in 1994. Since I was born I never knew there was tension regarding race between the two sides of my family. It was only when I grew up and noticed that some Koreans do not like the idea of "watering down the pure blood" and that some people are still not comfortable with the idea of mixing races. I think it may have to do with Korea being conquered by the Japanese and Chinese over the centuries. There is a desire to keep their culture and customs in tact. Personally, I feel more American than anything and find it hard to completely identify with my Korean side. For me, It's hard to keep up with the Koreans. I am enjoying your educational/ entertaining videos though!

What about the white part of your family? Was there any resentment from that side?
@XtalF

Isaac Lok As for my white side of my family. I feel that they are accepting, for sure. I think my mother's younger siblings might have initially thought of my Dad as an alien from outer space at the time but they have come to embrace and really love him and all of us kids. If there was resentment of that side of my family I wouldn't know because I was born long after they were married (I am number 4 out of 5 kids). My American Grandmother likes to play Arirang on the piano in honor of my Harmonee. She loved her.

Naturally I'm drawn to women with smaller eyes so I particularly like Asian women. But only wanting to date Korean seems strange to me. Why restrict yourself to such a narrow choice. There are great people that could be the perfect match all around the world and you could be looking in the wrong country.

I wouldn't mind dating people from other cultures but I feel like it would be difficult unless they purely had no expectations of me and vise versa. I sometimes feel like an outsider when I'm hanging out with my friends who where raised differently and just have different standards for foods, clothing, and beauty products simply because they are of a different ethnicity which requires different ways of going about everyday tasks. I feel like I could be deemed racist at any moment even though I have total respect for all cultures and ethnicities. I said 'different' so many times in this lol

Personally, I've been drawn to the culture as a whole for a little close to a decade - I am 18. Whether it is the people, language, shows, architecture, music, history, and so much more, I've always been drawn to east asian culture. It is just nice to know that if I do wish to woo someone, they will possibly not be turned off due to my foreigner-ness. I do wish to also study abroad and maybe even tutor/teach English too. That is why I am taking initiative and learning korean (random but also randomly picking up Thai because of Thai dramas, Lovesick. That's another story.) so I will be able to speak the Korean language and teach the English language in Korea. Even if I didn't want to be a teacher, I have always wanted to visit an amorous amounts of times, maybe even rent property there. (In a future episode of KWOW, maybe you can talk about the policy/attitudes to foreigners achieving some type of permanent living arrangements in korea IF YOU KNOW) This pretty much turned into a rant, but now that I am 18 and the ball is in my park, I am excited that I will possibly soon be able to do this!

I feel like most of the Koreans and Japanese I've met have just treated me with the respect I want to be treated with, unlike Americans and Italians( I live in Italy) who've treated me like trash or a sex toy. While most Asians that I've met are so polite, probably from the way they were raised. That's one of the reasons I prefer Asians, instead of looks or money, I look for manners and personality. What about you? I'd love to hear others people opinions!

You guys are stressing over little things. Our ancestors fucked up. Just face it and accept it. No one is going to eradicate the stereotypes placed on us blacks. Koreans aren't entirely racist or I should say Asians in general. They're mostly "classist" (You won't find that word in a dictionary for some reason). Some will like you some will not. Plain and simple. I have a bunch of Asian friends and they're quite accepting of me as I am to them. You just have to show them who you are and you'll be fine... well.. if they even give you that chance lol.

I like hearing all the different perspectives based on the individual commenters and of course KWOW's video, very insightful. My perspective is that there are a lot of stereotypes that float about and create misunderstandings among the diverse cultures of the world, Korean culture is no exception. It's good to keep an open-mind about different groups of people and get to know the individuals themselves, rather than generalize their conduct because it just adds to the cycle of misunderstanding.

Obviously, not every single korean is polite, kind and lovey-dovey, but a lot of them have strong values and I admire koreans for that.
