In our latest Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video we delve into what makes a daedric prince.
Dragonbreaks: • The MOST Confusing Con...
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Jyggalag final quote on this matter - ,,I will take my leave, and you will remain here, mortal. Mortal...? King? God? It seems uncertain. This Realm is yours. Perhaps you will grow to your station. Fare thee well, Sheogorath. Prince of Madness". (Just finished up Oblivion Shivering Isles today).

If Sheogorath dies with each upcoming of the Grey March and if any mortal can take his place, then this backens the theory that Sheogorath is nothing but a hollow or a placeholder until his true form Jyggalag reveals himself again.

Answer: Having a cool artifact and unskippable dialogue.
@Sacremas
@Sacremas 5 жыл бұрын
Heh, I know it's a joke but nope, still doesn't work. Artifact part sure, though several of the Skyrim ones don't belong to the Lord it's associated with (Malacath's nice hammer for example having been forged by the dwarves then just claimed by him later). The unskippable "god dialogue" however is shared by others like the Augur of Dunlain, who are certainly not a god, while Sheogorath who is likely one of the strongest can be skipped just fine while you are talking to him, as can Meridia (another of the strongest) once you are in the sky with her. Unfortunately that's just a side effect of the game function, and there not being a direct character infront of you that you are conversing with in the other cases.

@akatoshslayer7599
@akatoshslayer7599 5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, Mora is either was a being which collected the refuse or was born from it. It is never made clear, just like the spelling of its name. Vermina is another Deadric Prince which may or may not have been formed after the creation of Nirn. She is either the oldest Daedra (most probable according to her, but Daedra are known for deception and half-truths) or the creation which sprang from mortals attempt to understand the unfathomable. We can also throw out Sithis when discussing the general rules. Sithis is not a Daedra but did not take part in creation, has control over souls and an afterlife, and is the ruler of the void.

The Ayleid work _The Exegesis of Merid-Nunda_ doesn't suggest that Meridia was cast down when she and the other Magna-Ge fled Mundus back to Aetherius. Instead, it presents her decision to go to Oblivion to be a conscious and willing one. Perhaps her willful decision to go to Oblivion instead is what was later regarded as "consorting with illicit spectra," but she was not at first prevented from returning to Aetherius. There is only one source that talks about Meridia "consorting with illicit spectra," but it's an Imperial tome not entirely about Meridia in particular, and the Ayleids were likely to have a better handle on her origins, as she was their chief deity. Anyway, I think there is something to Mankar Camoran's words, when he talks about Lorkhan actually being a Daedric Prince, and Tamriel as his realm of Oblivion stolen from him by the traitorous Aedra. When you read between the lines of a lot of the myths and histories, that actually makes a lot of sense. In fact, Malacath exista _because_ Boethiah and Mephala both forced Trinimac to realize and/or recant the lies he, Auriel, and the other Aedra had spoken about Lorkhan. After that, Malacath is born as an upholder of honor and bloody oaths, and Boethiah leads her people through Veloth to Vardenfell, where we know lies the Heart of Lorkhan. Even more, Boethiah, Mephala, and Azura's teachings to the Chimer/Dunmer are about how they can transcend mortality and ascend to divinity themselves. This is precisely why, in some accounts, Lorkhan desired to create the mortal realm to begin with. So yeah, I'm more inclined to believe that Lorkhan/Shezarr/Shor is not the trickster, but was betrayed by the jealous and angry Aedra who then commandeered his own world. Oh, and remember that Daedra cannot be killed. Neither can Lorkhan/Shezarr/Shor. Even after having his heart ripped out by Trinimac, he would not die and his heart could not be destroyed. He claimed that his heart was the heart of the world, and one was made to satisfy the other. So yeah, I believe that Lorkhan is properly identified as a Daedric Prince, Tamriel being his realm. Auriel and some of the other Aedra betrayed him and stole his realm away from him, but they were never able to do it completely. Boethia, Mephala, and Azura are actually allies of Lorkhan and seek to fulfill his vision for the world he created.
@vishishify

But isn't creating the mortal realm what caused some of the spirits to become mortals in the first place? So if lorkhan didn't do what he did no one would need to acsend to divinity

I see the important distinction to kind of them being what they are not, rather than what they are. Although they clearly need to be what would be a large spirit, which usually comes with an identity which you would call their sphere. But based on the lore, I think it is kind of clear that the daedra are closer to what the original spirits were, and it is the Aedra that are different. On that, I see the distinction is that apart from the large sphere, the Aedra are a part of the world, they are the unseeable rules that makes the world work, the cogs things are mortal. Most of their influence practically seems non-existent, meaning faith is a big part of worship, but it is kind of inherent everywhere, they become things like concepts of time. I am not sure exactly the source, but I seem to remember that the original of what would be known as daedra were the other spirits that grew curious of what the Aedra created, so they clustered around Nirn, building their own world and forms around what they found in the mortal plane. The daedric princes being the big boys that largely created their own sphere around particular elements of Nirn that they like. But even if the princes might define princes by this origin, it kind of does not matter to mortals, an aedra that was pulled away from being part of Nirn and became linked to a plane of oblivion, would pretty much be the same thing. A plane of oblivion is not just a place a prince stays and rules over, it is actually a part of that prince, it is why Vile was so weakened when he was separated from his. The Prince being responsible for its creation, as such moulding that plane, is not important. This explains why there is the explanation of an almost infinite planes and what could be Princes, that get harder for mortals to understand as they go out, because they are the spirits furthest away from directly copying parts of Nirn, either building themselves as concepts so alien to Nirn, or maybe some sort of telephone game of continued deformed version of concepts. The elemental oblivion planes with the atronachs, would probably be the spirits that copied elements such as fire, ice and lightning, that they saw in Nirn, but they are kind of just primal concepts that don't really foster anything like a plan, if there is a prince they probably would be just acting like fire, ice, or a storm.

IMO if would be cool if for one of the elder scrolls games, the players 'power' came from being/becoming a daedric lord/prince. Quest-line to establish and protect your realm? create your own artifact and alter to be place on Nirn, choose to either help or trick random hero's. Sounds like a blast really.

Mythopoeia, to sum this video up into one word. Its an uderlying theme in all of elder scrolls, the concept that belief in something is what lends it strength. You see this directly in shivering isles, for example. The character may ask how they may become a daedric prince and sheogorath states you merely need "the proper symbols of office" because while youre *not* sheogorath, if you can get the populace of the isles to *believe* in you, that is the essential key to taking the throne of madness. Taking the throne, and weilding the staff, while it doesnt change who you are, it changes perceptions. Who would deny the champion of cyrodill as prince of the isles after they single-handedly ended the greymarch? The living tribunal as well, while they garned exceptional power from the heart, their fall in power is directly correlative to their fall in devout followers, necessitating them to rely more and more heavily on the heart. Concurrently, while they converted followers from the "true tribunal", azura, mephala, and boethiah all declined in power as their followers converted.

I like to think of sheogorath as a "hulk" rather than an actual being. When jyggalag was defeated by the hero of kevatch, he appears to be free from the curse of sheogorath. Now sheogorath isn't really seen after the battle so one would assume that he's just moved on. However, there is the theory saying that the hero of kevatch is the sheogorath from skyrim. This leads me to believe that his entire existence is based off of living through another entity (while still giving them power)

He isn't even nature. He's actually the OPPOSITE of nature; he is all the ideas and laws of physics that were rejected and never used. Gods inventing, then denying, infinite ideas. He's an orphan; a twisted corruption, made of the literal garbage of the Gods, and was never meant to be.

@@Alizudo I mean, if he exists then he's part of nature. Everything that exists is part of nature. You might argue that Sithis is the opposite of nature, because Sithis is [paradoxically] absence. @@nicholassturgess-monks4458 The Daedra are fundamentally Aliens in the purest sense. They are Extra-Terrestrials, and are completely disconnected from the world. At least, this is the case for the ones who didn't help make the world and who are not of it. Hermaeus-Mora is included. It's no coincidence that he takes the form of a disgusting mass of tentacles and eyes, crawling out of black slime. He is infinity, created from the God's own trash, and the ideas they never used. His entire *_existence_* is based on the fact that nothing about him is natural. You need to remember that the Mundus is *_separate_* from the rest of the universe; it is an isolated and closed area, which operates under completely different rules from the rest of the Aurbis. I like to think of the daedra as simply extremely magical beings from Oblivion. Daedric Lords are therefore just the most powerful of their Daedric Realm. Aedras therefore are simply extremely magical beings from outer Mundus. And the Eight are rulers of their realms which take the form of the planets and have their names. I like to think that they all play along with the lore that the people of Nirn create. Manipulating them and either shaping them to their whims (Aedra) or attempting to conquer their realm (Daedra). This however does not mean they aren't semi/fully spiritual forms which allow for say, Tiber Septim to become spiritual. However it is noteworthy that no one calls Talos Aedric or even claims he has an Aedric realm/planet. And so it is my hope that humanity after crushing the filthy Elves and building their power that they will one day march into Oblivion slaying the Daedric Lords and set flame to the great societies of the Aedra and not spare the so-called Eight. Reality Belongs to the Humans!

'Our brethern (are) beyond number, endless mastery, embodiment of permanence and change. Yet the grand write denied (to) us. The lack was keenly felt, (thus) Creation was beyond our claim. Those in sacrifice gained what in selfish pride we were denied. Jealousy wrought our spite, (to) twist, torment, and force to our will. Creation we covet, never ours, forever our amusement.' Some assorted quotes from the scrolls games I put together to try and say what I feel like the Daedra are. They need no followers, belief, or worshipers. They want what they refused to sacrifice for, the power of creation. No daedra can create something new that is separate from themselves. Even the artifacts adventurers crave are in fact 'pieces' of themselves that are still connected to them. So they amuse themselves with all of creation that they can twist, torment, and change. Trying to grasp the power of creation, but always falling short.

An idea for TES VI. Imperials win civil war, Thalmor takes all provinces except for the one? we will play in. Staying true to themselves, Thalmor enforces order everywhere which makes Jyggalag stronger. The lost prince starts aiding Thalmor to take over remaining lands to grow even stronger. At the start of the game you as a protagonist wake up in the back of a wagon. There are some other dudes as well. Look around you, nice, rocky mountains sight,, there's been snowfall recently. Someone gives you a drink of mead saying "It's good to take the edge off". Have a sip, hear dragon's roar in the distance, "Skyrim: Next Generation" text appears in the middle of the screen.
