The other issue DBS has is that none of it's arcs really lead into each other. They are all separate arcs that don't have much to do with each other. In DB and DBZ they all lead into each other. The saiyan arc is the reason why they went to Namek in the first place. The android and cell arc directly occur because of the RRR hatred of Goku. They already had androids back in OG DB with Hachi so Dr. Gero still making more androids makes sense. The only arc in DBZ that didn't lead into another was the Buu Arc. Although the TOP was hinted at after the universe 6 vs Universe 7 and Zeno showed up interested in hosting his own tournament.

That's why I've always questioned the relevancy of arcs like Resurrection of F, Future Trunks, and even Granolah. Up until the Tournament of Power with the former, with Frieza coming back and all, it really had nothing to do with the two arc's that came after it. Goku and Vegeta still earned their new form at the time via training and the u6 tournament saga would have happened the same with or without it. The Future Trunks saga didn't have any major impacts (Future Zeno is not a major impact) for the rest of the series, like it was just filler until the tournament promised back in the saga that came before, and unless they decide to bring him back again, Granolah suffers the same reasons as Resurrection of F. At least with the Buu saga in Z, Goku came back to life and we got many things that are still properly utilized in Super to this day.

@@CornaOnTheCob I still enjoy Super but it's just one thing that bothered me about it's production. It's fine for the movies to not lead into each other but the anime and manga should have done that. Granted I think Super does have some of the best Dragon Ball movies with only one that was ok and that's Ressurection F

The problem is that those arcs COULD connect to each other naturally, just by showing scenes that foreshadowing the next arc. I think in DBS, BoG and RoF is connected naturally enough. U6 Tournament actually have Champa appeared in RoF to foreshadowing U6 tournament, but it could have been showing scenes from the manga as well, or wrote it in a way like Frieza's defeat actually interest Champa to visit U7. Goku Black Arc could have Zamasu appears, watching the tournament at the end of the last arc, hinting his involvement. TOP could have Zeno talking about his new future counterpart friend about the idea of a tournament in the Goku Black arc, or Future Zeno, after witnessing U7 trouble involving Zamasu, express desire to destroy low-level universe.

King Piccolo Saga, Namek Saga and Android Saga are the best because side characters like Future Trunks, Piccolo, Tien, Krillin and Yajirobi did most of the fighting with Goku showing up last minute to fight the main villians. My favorite fights are Gohan and Krillin vs Dodoria, Trunks vs Frieza and King Cold, Yajirobi vs Cymbal, Piccolo vs Imperfect Cell, Piccolo vs Android 17, Tien vs Semi-Perfect Cell and Future Trunks vs Vegeta and Semi-Perfect Cell.

I like the Tournament Of Power, because it feels a lot like Dragon Ball. Not just Z, but also OG Dragon Ball. This arc was absolutely hyped and Ultra Instinct is one of the best transformations (imo the best), because it just fits to Goku. It wasn't great, because many things could have been done better (e.g. Jiren's backstory, the pacing, Universe 2, the way the U6 Saiyans acquire SSJ,...). But side characters were given much love, the stakes were really high, the music is absolutely marvelous and the animation towards the end was some of the best ones in the entire franchise up to that point. My most favorite part is the way they are treating Ultra Instinct. It's not just a power-up like the various Super Saiyan stages, but it's all about the mind and calmness, and it actually is relevant to what Goku has been taught the entire time and to real life too even! Not that you can reach UI, but... just letting it go.

for me there are 2 roads to make a great db arc: road A: step 1. introduction of a new villain that presents an actual threat to the main characters (frieza, vegeta, cell, buu, goku black, baby, omega shenron etc) step 2. villain with a good reason on why he is doing what he is doing (baby revenge for his race, frieza rule the universe etc) step 3. have a character grow as a person (tien, piccolo, vegeta etc) step 4. have the side characters do sth (ToP, moro, cell, namek, saiyan etc) step 5. great fights (its the most essential) Road B: Step 1. find a good excuse to make a tournament and the characters to fight (like buu saga) Step 2. bring all the side characters to fight (give them a W as well or a close fight with a saiyan) Step 3. introduce and ultra powerful dude that will be in the final fight with goku (jiren, tien etc) Step 4. great fights (again its the most essential)

Imo The T. O. P and (although this is a huge maybe) Battle of Gods arc were some pretty great arcs from dbs, the t.o.p did a lot of things which you mentioned, it was also a great arc due to the stakes being higher then they have been throughout all of dbs since the gods cannot interfere and if our main cast lost they'd be erased, my only major gripe with it is the random ass transformations and power ups and some of the most annoying characters I've ever seen

"Pretty great" is a big stretch to me. I think both are "Good", maybe even "Pretty Good", but not great. The ToP did have the high stakes though

7:14 I don't think Kid Buu is the weaker Buu, he is probably the strongest after Buuhan and Buutenks, unless you mean like, he is weak as a character rather than as a threat.

the granolah arc in the manga was so bad I consider it the worst DB related thing that isn't the american live action movie. Even Bio Broly is great in comparison

He didn't say that, he just said that these four are the clearest example of how to do DB well. Cell didn't follow the formula these other four did but turned out good despite that.
