There’s no denying the Nike Air Max 95 is a classic sneaker, but what about the Air Max 96? What about a pedestrian shoe like the Air Max 270, which is everywhere but not that loved by sneakerheads? What about the VaporMax? Co-hosts Joe La Puma, Brendan Dunne, and Matt Welty discuss the merits and bounds of the term “classic” in sneakers in this episode. They also talk about the rumored Kobe x Nike SB collaboration, the Flyknit era of the 2010s, Chinese New year Air Force 1s, and how horrible bar lacing is. Welty is completely right about the VaporMax. Nowhere close to a classic yet. I honestly don’t think Nike hasn’t had that many classic sportswear models in the last decade or so. The Roshe run? The FlyKnit Racer/Trainer?

I've always hated the Roshe. As someone who owns a ton of shoes. (400 or so) I never cared for the roshe. I did kinda follow trend back then and rocked Janoski max on chill days with joggers a decade ago.

Air maxes - in particular air max 1, air max 90, air max 95 Air Force 1s Converse Chuck 70s Vans New Balance 990 Series Can't go wrong with any of those. They'll never go out of fashion like ultra boosts, NMDs and Yeezys

The hardest thing with the Kobe stuff is that Vanessa Bryant's style and aesthetics do not necessarily align with sneaker/basketball culture. Recent releases and rumored releases are just not it for me, I much rather see classic colorways that align with his legacy.

I see where you’re coming from and you make some valid points. But I think part of what makes these new releases interesting and heartfelt is they ARE coming from Kobe’s loved one and not necessarily aligned with “sneaker” culture. I’d much rather have that than something more corporate/hype beast-ish

Excited for this one ! So cozy with it on feet ! I beat my BCIII’s from ‘12 like crazy but still able to wear them! The flyknit era was a time ! Flyknit racers are still one of the comfiest sneakers i own. Loved these conversations! Amazing job guys !

I agree with Welty, Vapor Max is NOT a classic. The platform was influential but people won't be buying restock after restock like they do for AM1, AM90, AM95 and AM97.

That Chinese New Year Af1 looks nuts probably one of the nicest Af1 I've seen in a while. It kinda gives Nike & CLOT vibes cause they remind me of the CLOT AF1 they did a few years ago with the full silk upper and outsole which was a pretty cool feature. Also nike had the Levi Nike by u Af1 that looked very similar as well and those are one of my grail Af1 are the Levi ones. I hope they do another Nike by u with Levi.

I think the Air Max 270 is certified at this point. Somehow that sneaker has become as widespread in the non-sneakerhead collective consciousness as say, the Blazer Mid, in recent years. Go to any grocery store or mall and by the time you leave, you’ll have seen at least two people wearing the Air Max 270. Nike’s done a great job of making that silhouette appealing and accessible.

Personally I love the collaboration between Adidas and Sean Wotherspoon The color combinations, the different textures,.. I bought the Adidas/Disney Superturf Adventure and (not for the Disney part of it) the style of the sneaker is a good balance between chunky and slim, very fun colorcombo, and the extra details are just cool & fun ✌🏻🪻

Vegas tables need a pair of Jordan 1 Spades. Spades across the board. Classic sneakers need to be loud when they first came out, continued to be popular, cultural impact, and retro model released. The list needs to have Reebok Club C's, Nike Pegasus line, Jordans 1-14, Adidas Superstars, Converse All-Stars, etc. Modern classics would likely be Yeezys, Nike Huaraches, SB Dunks, LeBron's line & AF1s, Adidas Boost.

The bulk of my collection consists of Air Vapormax models, i love them and still wear all of them in my rotation and will always seek new vapormax. I think the 270 or vapormax will be looked at as a classic in the future. The vapormax was a polarizing design at the time, and i thought the 270 was like a future take on an airmax 90 design. The vapormax was like the premium model, while the 270 was the affordable option. The 720 looked like a take on the air max of previous generation of 2013. Of that era, i think Nike React Technology is the correct answer. The nike react will classic shoe.
