So glad someone finally points out real Chicago style pizza, tavern style. I always tell ppl no one from Chicago eats deep dish as a “go to”. If we do, it’s most likely a special occasion like someone’s graduation. I haven’t had deep dish in 2 years probably 😭. Great video!

I moved to the Chicago area when I went to college and lived there for over 20 years, and I can say that they have the most amazing deep dish pizzas anywhere. Having said that, no one wants to eat deep dish pizza all the time, so most people only order it on special occasions or if they are really hungry. Otherwise they eat the traditional thin crust like everyone else. I'm sure the dame applies to the people in Detroit who love their Detroit style pan pizzas, which are also good but not really easy finger food like a thin crust pizza.

So glad this video isn't talking about deep dish for once. First time I tried deep dish in Chicago as a tourist, it was delicious, but was so heavy. So glad I discovered that they have a lighter and equally as great alternative in tavern style pizza that is a local secret. Shoutout to Vito and Nick's and Villa Nova!

I'm lucky to have family living in Chicago so I get all the local favs, the deep dish are so filling is why tavern is better, you can enjoy more of the pizza without being stuffed after 1 slice of deep dish.

Great video, I think the low view count can be explained by the idea that, as a viewer we get the old vice pizza videos from years ago popping up in recommended all the time. So when they saw this thumbnail, the average viewer assumed it was an old video, not a new one. Again, great video, authentic people. ❤

It's all about technique when you put on sausage. I Have beenmaking pizzas for 40 plus years what she said is true get the outsides push the sausage down small uniform pieces (You make small uniform pieces and put the right amount on it looks like it's a lot more than it really is but you're supposed to see& taste the sausage. That's what a true Chicago tavern STYLE pizza is. Crispy cracker crust the right amount of sauce and cheese sausage a little oregano on top baking to a nice golden brown perfect. Cut small( not too small) square, anywhere else I don't know about but I know here in Chicago that's how it goes.

As a Chicagoan, it’s in my bucket list to eat at one of Frank’s pizza restaurants. I’m not biased. Chicago pies or NYC pies I want em all lol

My favorite pizza when I was a kid was from pizza factory (minnesota). Square cut, very thin almost crackery crust, more cheese and toppings than necessary. Sooo good.

Here's a little insider knowledge from some homeless cats around Chicago: 1)If they're asking for money then they want money. There are so many out-of-towner tourist types that get deep dish to give to the homeless. Ive met some guys who've eaten so much deep dish (one guy said that's all he'd eaten in 6 months) they literally can't stomach anymore. Maybe ask em what they wanna eat? 2)if the dude has a pizza side-hustle, then by all means get him a pizza. Some of these guys actually sell the pizzas they get by the slice and make their living that way.

I've lived in the Chicago area for 22 years at this point and if you get pizza here, 95% of the time it's tavern style. I love real deep dish, but it's a bit much for everyday pizza. Everyone has a favorite local tavern style place around here.

That takes me back to the Friday or Saturday we'd get that Gigantic Sausage & Cheese Pizza & we'd devour it. Some kids didn't eat the whole slice & I'd go around scavenging leftover crusts. Deep dish is an *Occasional Treat.* *Thin Crust Tavern style is what most Chicagoans grew up on.*

My dad is from Chicago. I'm floored-like BLOWN AWAY-that in all of his 75 years of life that he has N-E-V-E-R mentioned THIN crust pizza. 🤯🙆🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🍕❓ I'm aware of Portillo's Chicago-style Hot Dogs 🌭 and Garrett Popcorn 🍿, but never THIN pizza from Chicago. Thin is the New Yorker style I thought. 🤔

Deep dish and stuffed are more tourist dishes. Most people who live in or near Chicago eat these maybe once a year if not less often.

Chicago has so many good pizza places one place that had good pizza was a place called Burt's. It was owned by a man named Burt. He was an old Jewish man who made every single pizza by himself and you had to call in advance and put in your order and the time you were going to come and eat and you couldn't change it at the last minute. Guy was eccentric but he had a devout following and he did make one tasty pizza. Sadly he passed away and I don't think it's open anymore I only went once cause you couldn't spontaneously just go there cause he ran the entire thing by himself lol. Idk how people who are not from Chicago think Chicagoans eat only deep dish pizza like no, thats a special occasion pizza not something we get on the reg it's too rich to eat regularly and you need a a few people to help eat it lol

Chicago is a thin crust pizza town yet all Chicago area grocery stores are selling multiple deep dish pizzas. No one visits Chicago to buy a frozen deep dish pizza from a grocery store, especially on the south and west side of the city Chicagoans buy a lot of deep dish pizza.
