This non-invasive selection provides all of the utility of other spirea, but without the unwanted seedlings - plus flowers all season long! Its lack of seed also makes it a perpetual bloomer, putting all of its energy into creating wave after wave of red-pink flowers from early summer through frost. No deadheading required! Naturally grows as a neat mound.
Double Play Doozie® spirea is available at better garden centers across North America. Find a garden center near you at www.provenwinners.com/retaile....

I bought three of these at Home Depot when I saw the stunning spring growth in orange, red and yellow fall colors. Now, in June, they look like Double Play Big Bang or Goldound which I had previously, with yellow/chartreuse leaves and pink flowers. Is this just a transitional phase before they turn green with red flowers or do you think my plants were mislabeled? Not complaining but wasn't expecting this.

I love spirea, but eventually had to throw them out Every year they got covered with aphids as they started to bloom. Any suggestions on how to combat this.
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice 2 жыл бұрын
Aphids like softer new growth on plants so they are most active in springtime when plants are pushing out their new foliage/flowers. If you are fertilizing the plants I would cut back a little bit on that so the plants don't push out as much growth when the aphids are more active. Aphids can be removed by squishing them (though not the prettiest job) or spraying them off with water when you see them on the plant.

Hi! I bought three of these beautiful double play spireas from a local nursery here, I have noticed a couple of green aphids on them, do you know if neem oil would be ok for the foliage? Or are they more sensitive to oils? kindest regards, thank you so much for your help!
@pwcolorchoice
@pwcolorchoice Жыл бұрын
Hello there! Spirea can be somewhat sensitive to aphids, especially in spring and in conditions where lots of soft growth is pushed through frequent fertilizing and watering, like in a garden center. Fortunately, they are generally harmless and pretty easy to manage either by snipping off the infested growth (and in the case of Double Play Doozie, no worries about removing flowers, it will just create new flowers about 6 weeks after that snip) or rinsing them off with a hose and your hands. Spirea are not known to be sensitive to neem oil, but I would recommend reading the instructions on the specific product before applying. The other two methods I mentioned are honestly a lot easier and equally as effective as treating with neem oil ☺

Hi Stacy! We need your help please! My wife and I have purchased several of the plants your wonderful channel has recommended and are so thankful for your reviews and suggestions. My question is: we purchased 8 very good looking large and already blooming Double Play Doozies and within 7 days: all the flowers went dry, a couple stems shriveled and went dry on each plant and haven't had any new blooms in 6 weeks (today is July 6th in NY). Any clue what could have been the possible culprit? we are new gardeners and I am having am impossible time finding what I might have done so wrong. It's embarrassing and it was also a very costly mistake. Here's what i did: We have heavy clay soil and I amended 50% of the existing heavy soil with Claybreaker Soil conditioner with gypsum (soil in a bag). I also added some bio-tone starter fertilizer and then watered in heavily. Here is the weird part, I did the same thing to our 15 Little Lime Punches and they are absolutely thriving! Any help would be so appreciated. My very best, Leo
