Why? So people can be fed more incorrectness? Here are my thoughts on it-- Delete this video man.. it's old and completely wrong. As a competitive gamer and an audiophile I'm going to commentate on this video: First, if you want to get W's it doesn't really matter how comfortable it is to most competitive gamers. Second, frequency response graphs are just as important as when listening to music. You'll notice 100% more and get absolutely wrecked if there's a valley in the treble. Any extra bass means they're garbage... Why are you saying you want a lot of bass? Third, the reason gaming headphones are closed is NOT just because of isolation...It's because the diffuse field is better. Open has worse DF on anything below most $500 sets. EVERY company that makes these do it this way for a reason man. In-game, diffuse field with a closed sound is way way way better than an open headphone for VR/ASMR/accurate binaural recordings/GAMING. You finally said something that is true: SS and VSS is definitely bad. Fourth, virtual barber shop is good on almost any headphones because there's no visual to match it...it doesn't need to be accurate to a location, so no matter what you're listening through, if it's stereo, it'll sound cool. Doesn't mean it's accurate. Fifth, gaming doesn't care for nuances?? Texture/detail doesn't matter?? Are you kidding me RN? The amount of layering and detail in-game is SUPER important in gaming. What the heck are you talking about? Sixth, you do NOT want bass. Why do you keep saying you want bass? That's the 100% opposite. Seventh, a removable cable is something, like comfort, that gamers will not care about.. at all. DT 770 is definitely a good gaming headphone if you can get it for $120ish. Takstar/HyperX are better. Seventh, a better DAC gives you better L/R separation? Uhh.. games are putting out 24/96 at the very best. A DAC is optional. A good amp will be good though because of transients. How to game: PC > JDS Atom > closed back, treble heavy headphones. Portapros are the worst possible gaming hp's out there because even when centered on your ear canal the DF is wonky AF. I'm not going to comment on the others.. you're obviously not a very competitive gamer, why pretend?

I bet he meant 5.1 or 7.1 speakers, well, you cant actually hear 5.1 or 7.1 in 2.1 speakers. I got my Logitech z906 5.1 speakers for a year and it's doing good in gaming, heaphones are not that good. But I've heard 125 dollar "gaming" headphones, and I can say they are noc comfortable, and "7.1" in those is.. crap. I got my new Sony MDR-1A recently and I can say that GOOD REAL STEREO is much better than FAKE 7.1 or 5.1

I got to tell you, INCREDIBLE VIDEO MAN! I've been doing a lot of research about gaming (that also suits my music expectations considering I always loved listen to all kinds of music) headsets and headphones for FPS since later last year, and this video is one of the best content I've found on internet so far. Right now I have a HyperX Cloud gaming headset, which is pretty much "okay" for gaming, but my next step is gonna be an open back headphone combine with a basic mic for comunication. My choice is probably gonna be the Sennheiser HD598, hope it suits me well as they're not exactly cheap here in Brazil.

I have the HD668B's with velour pads from ebay, they feel much more comfortable and make a better seal around the ear (the headphone is still semi-open though) but like with the original pads, my ears will get sore after a few hours due to the strong clamping force. The 668's are great but for $75 you should rather get the Philips SHP9500 which are a big step up in audio quality and are so comfortably you forget that you are wearing them very quickly, Zeos also has a review on them.

Another great and educational video. 5:24 so true and the way you said it LMAO. You really should do an annual gaming headphone review. Give tips on your personal recommendations on the newest latest headphones and their application for gaming. I really like to know your opinion on Audio Technica A1000z for games. Im returning my sennheiser hd700. That headphone's sound stage is super overkill for gaming. I was playing Star Wars Battlefront with them and I heard laser blasts, explosions, soldiers dying, etc like 2000 yards away with good directional audio but i couldn't hear the footsteps of a stormtrooper just 5 *feet* away coming from behind ?!?! All my equalizer tweaking really didn't help much either. Anyhow, anyone reading this , Sennheiser hd 700 is good for music but for FPS footsteps?? pretty bad. Also the audio of hd 700 to my ears seemed really really "airy" which again doesn't help with footsteps.

It's been a month and you haven't got a reply so I'll let you know how it was for me. I've had the combo for around 2 years powered by a SoundBlaster E5 . awesome setup still. Really neutral which is great. one bad point is the plastic near the ends of the head adjustment. It is brittle and can snap easily. That said it doesn't affect the wrap around the ear at all. Overall 8.5/10

Z Reviews First off, the best gaming headphone review ever! I would love for you to continue this gaming side of audio! And im sure the rest of you followers would as well! 1 question: I just got a pair of Senn hd558s and I also have a pair of dt-770 250 ohm, which I love! The dt 770s to me sound overall better in gaming and I think in music as well, but I was looking to buy the 668bs, should I pull the trigger? will the 668bs be better in gaming then my 558s? or 770s? I will also be getting the hifiman velour pads as well with them, thanks again!! you da man!!!!!!
@ZReviews
@ZReviews 9 жыл бұрын
The 558's are just weaker versions of the 598's so the 668's will have better low end. The 770's should be enough but if you wanted to try another set of open cans the 668's are the cheapest. Yes, you basically NEED the hifiman pads to get the 668's to their best.
@XBATHORYX13

Z Reviews thanks for the fast reply!! I got the 770s first because i needed a closed headphone, but I got the 558s use, but in mint condition for a steal of a deal! and i wanted to try open headphones. So with that said, you said that the 668bs are a great pair of cans for the money and that they are great for gaming as well. will the 668bs have more sound stage than the 558s? will i notice a difference between the 2? thanks again!!

Z Reviews How different are the X2's to 600's? You should get a tube amp for a review to pair with 600's and those Beyerdynamics, they love the tubes, even something cheap, like...check out the Bravo V3 or Schiit Vali, you can't go wrong with that for 100 dollars and it will give you a taste of 600's with a bigger and more open soundstage. I always preferred my Beyers and Senns with tubes because it just makes them sound more special and so smooth due to lower harmonic distortion in the higher frequencies that you get with tubes. It might sound weird, but I think tube amps work better for gaming with high impedance neutral headphones, it just makes the sound bigger and more bombastic somehow. Kinda like those vintage amps do for speakers, just makes them feel more powerful.

i bought Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro because of the shout out Zeos gave in this video. And Jesus Christ !!!! For the love of all that is good and holy in the world these headphones got BASS like no other. I hooked up these German monsters on to my soundblaster ZXR amplifier then proceeded to equalize the shit out of them until i got an insane bass boost and then fired up Star Wars Battlefront !!!! All i will say is I truly felt the terror the rebels must have felt on Hoth when facing an AT-AT in Empire Strikes Back. The very steps of those walkers boomed my ears with such insane amount of bass i felt my head was gonna explode ! Even the turbo laser blasts of the walkers had such monstrous ominous effect due to the crazy amount of bass on these Beyer Dyanmics. The fear of being a rebel going up against the Empire definitely went up a few notches when gaming on these headphones. If you want a A+++++ bass headphone with great directional audio and pretty good sound stage for closed set this is a sure buy ! All hail Zeos for making this video !

Curious. I read your comment that hearing footsteps on the Sennheiser HD 700 were pretty bad since those particular headphone have an "airy" audio presentation. So how does having a bass headphone like the Beyer Dyanamic DT 770 Pro help with hearing footsteps ?
@Tehrani72
@Tehrani72 7 жыл бұрын
Good point. I should have clarified. I can equalize these headphones for any purpose. If i want to hear footsteps ill increase the treble a bit and lower the bass just a touch and footsteps come out pretty darn good. Not as good as my Sennheiser HD 598. But pretty respectable. If im in a mood to go Bass crazy then again i equalize for a Bass Boost and the Bass in my Beyer Dynamics pour into my ears like im standing next to dance club speakers ! Yes. The bass is that good. I pretty much game on those 2 headphones. Sennheiser HD 598 for footsteps. Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Pro if im in a mood to have insane amount of bass in my gaming.

Are the Sennheiser hd 598 bass that bad compared to the Beyer Dynamics ?
@Tehrani72
@Tehrani72 7 жыл бұрын
No. Not at all. The Sennheiser hd 598 bass is present. It is decent. But i was personally left with wanting more. And so I asked Z Reviews what his thoughts were on the Audio Technica a1000z. I didn't hear from him so i started to dig around his videos until i saw this one and once Zeos pointed out the Beyer Dynamics DT 770 Pro saying "these headphones have the best bass" then i knew my search was over. Also, it depends on what games you are playing. If it's Counterstrike then i would recommend the HD 598. But if its Battlefield 1 and you want crazy amount of BASS then the Beyer Dynamics will be the way to go ! one last thing i have the 80 ohms version. Most audiophile message boards point out the 80 ohms version having better bass compared to the 250 ohm version.

Hey man awesome video, thanks for putting the effort and I see you're still replying so huge respect for that too! I'm a console gamer, I'm always more audio biased, just got a 4K LG OLED, but if I was forced to use tv speakers or have the old tv and better sound, 100% of the time I'd prefer better audio... In saying that, I've had a set of turtle beach px500's for the last 4 years, they've been decent but they could be a lot better, what attracted me is #1: convenient!! But also I wasn't aware of any other setup that offered customisable EQ and external processing of 7.1 signal input down to 2.0 output that was console compatible, namely PlayStation via optical. I don't need mic or wireless, I mainly play single player action/RPGS and also use for movies, I want the best quality positional audio and sound stage I can get for $300-400, including headphones and any external equipment necessary... what would you suggest? I'm curious about planar headphones but I know price will be semi-nope... I'd like to retain whatever features possible but I'd gladly lose them all for creepy levels of accuracy and ultra realism... budget flexible if it's worth it...

Fore competitive gaming I like to go for something stupid bright. With the low bits from the sound just gone you are left with the mids and highs giving you crystal clear imaging to locate footsteps and soundstage. It works because bass is perceived as omnidirectional. But for single player games or when winning isn’t a priority, then you want something really bassy with good soundstage for maximum immersion to feel the rumble

I've been using a pair of Plantronics Gamecom 777 for the last 9 or so years (yes, I fell for the gimmick) and I'm thinking it's time to move on to something new. This is what I am considering: Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X Mic: Antlion Modmic 5 Dedicated soundcard / Amp&Dac: ??? Any feedback on this preliminary setup or advice on whether I should get helping hardware mumbojumbo (amp/dac/whatever) and if so, what kind of? If I skip getting a DAC/amplifier setup, will I still be able to get a decent surround sound (5.1/7.1) equal to or better than my old gimmicky Plantronics Gamecom?

I love me some Porta Pros for gaming. The little round logos on the sides are perfect for sticking a mod mic to and the sound is surprisingly immersive. Maybe not super competitive, but they're nice. The Sennheiser PX 100-II is an interesting alternative in the budget performance tier and as a more expensive rival to the Porta Pro's. The bass goes deeper for those explosions and unless it's my imagination, the sound-placement feels slightly more 360-degreeish. My issue with closed headphones and headsets for gaming is that I find communicating with other players much harder. I can't speak very well when I can't hear properly what I'm saying. Maybe it's something one gets used to, but I need to an open-backed headphone/headset where I can hear my own voice to not sound like a complete idiot. I originally bought the Takstars Pro 80s along with the mod mic to turn into a gaming headset, but for the reason above it didn't work out too well. Well, I didn't work out too well. The Pro 80 still sounds great with games, especially shooters. As for the SMSL SD-793II DAC/AMP combo, it has served me well for close to two years and gets a strong recommendation from me as well.
