I second 5.11 merch. Worked on ambulance for 26 years and 5.11 became the primo equipment ( boots, socks, work shirts).

Nice setup Charlie. We have seen you using this so much in the field but it is always nice to see it up close with a good explanation of use. Espescially how well the different products have held up and also your modifications. Thanks for such a good review of your gear, no doubt it will help those who are looking to get set up too or even those looking to improve on what they have. Have a great day!

Those backpacks are tanks, and I've had a Predator shovel (the Ranger, a larger model to those wondering) for a few years. Can't say enough great things about either of those, and I'm hard on my gear. My backpack (the 5.11 RUSH12, slightly different than the one in the video) was purchased via Charlie's Amazon links, and I'm so happy I bought it - knowing what he goes through to film and hike out miles into the woods, I knew it had to be a stellar backpack. Worth every penny, and it's got a water bladder pocket in the back that's only supposed to hold 2 liters, but I've managed to fit a 3 liter bladder in there without a problem. You cannot go wrong!

I love that you explain the various things you do to make life easier for carrying your gear and the other things you do to keep your gear in usable condition like the tube on your detector grip. My late Dad used to modify things so they would last and to suit his needs which is what you do and is so sensible. Good luck Charlie, take care my friend and be happy in all you do Mary-Ellen LFOD

Pretty cool use of the gear. You've given me a great idea for a couple old headlamps that work, but the head band is worn out. Great video!

I love the shovel! It is hard to find the shorter version, so I think I will order the 31" and segment it so I can have the short or long version depending on needs. I think an aluminum sleeve bolted through will work fine with minimal added weight. Thank you for giving us a tour of your equipment. I hope the SD Tool will be in stock again. It is over a year since this video was added. Happy Detecting :-)

I use the SD tool mini at work to open crates...i get huge crates of equipment that is frequently nailed shut with huge nails, 5 inches or so long...i hammer the tool in to create a space to get my crow bar into the gap to pry off the lid. it does this better than any other tool i have for this task.

Good informative video.I've been wondering about your digger since I first started following SDNT. They looked real sturdy and not so awkward for digging in tight clearance areas.

Great video DC. Those brushes. I have one just like it that I got off the cosmetology teacher in my building. She said it's a fingernail brush for manicures. Hope that helps you source more of them if you desire!
