I am so happy I found this video! Thank you, thank you, for talking about your struggle with getting your daughter to eat. Everything you mentioned your daughter does not like to eat my daughter is exactly the same. I honestly can not believe it. I’ve watched many videos and I have talked to so many moms and did some research and never found anything similar and most moms said they never had this issue. My daughter is now almost 17 months old and the struggle has been crazy, I honestly feel so defeated most days. I sometimes just don’t even know what to feed her anymore. She’s also in daycare so what I can pack for her is limited which makes it even harder. I remember one night my daughter just would not eat dinner. She barely ate anything all day. I just sat there and cried. I felt like I was failing. I feel like I spend my day just thinking about what I can feed her. It has slowly gotten a little easier, it is a process. I wish I found this video sooner. It helps so much to hear other stories and not feel so alone. And even reading through comments I see there are many mamas struggling with picky eaters. Love your advice and thank you again!

Since she likes banana you could try a banana egg pancake. 1 banana, 1 egg. Fry it on low until brown on each side. They are so good. I put peanut butter on my sons.

I'm a mom of three from Finland. My best advice is that the whole family eats the same food at same time on the table without TV or any other screens.
@bessyisyourbestieforever3164
@bessyisyourbestieforever3164 4 жыл бұрын
I really want to enforce this I mean we don't do screen time during meal times anymore. We use to but we've cut it out a while back but did you ever get meltdowns from your child because they didn't want to eat what the family eats? If yes how do you deal with that my 3 year old went 3 days without even trying it! I caved in with snacks in between worrying that she would starve! No the only thing the whole family is happy with is seafood. Tuna fillets, Salmon steaks, Trout. My 3 year old only eats meat and nuts. No fruits or vegetables.

@@bessyisyourbestieforever3164 when my kids were a bit younger our menu was perhaps quite boring as an adult's point of view. Usually we had different variations of mashed potatoes, pasta, ground beef, ground chicken and fish. I used to "hide" grated carrots and zucchini to pasta sauce or lasagne to get them to eat vegetables. Sometimes I would say that if they taste one piece of new food, they will get a biscuit as a desert. After tasting few times, they usually don't need a biscuit anymore. Nowadays my 4 and 6 years old kids eat most foods and my baby is just learning to eat solids.

@@paulan1212 I tried the bribbing thing. My 3 year old survives on fish chicken Oatmilk and Tea. She used to eat bananas than one day stopped and she used to eat Olives and Omelette with Pesto and Feta Cheese and Spinach than stopped. Now I can't get her to eat anything but basically meat. My one year old eats everything I make. The whole Family will eat what I make but I always have to make a separate meal for my 3 year old. I don't mind that its just that because she's noy getting any fibre in her diet from fruits and vegetables. she suffers from chronic constipation and has hemorrhoids now. Its a nightmare when it comes to food. My pediatricians keep brushing it off as its normal don't worry. My current one told me to put my daughter on laxatives for 2 months to clear out her bowels but it will make her dependent on laxatives. Anway you're blessed to have kids that at least try the food before they reject it.

I have a very picky eater also.... almost as picky as Yours but I have found that finding a dip helps her eat a whole lot better. Mine loves ketchup, ranch, honey mustard and queso and will eat chicken nuggets and French fried and pizza if she can dip it in one of those. She will also eat quesadillas and taquitos if she has queso to dip it in. I guess it makes it a game for her and more fun and def helps her eating!

My daughter is in a similar boat to yours. I made the same mistake of keeping her on purees for too long because I was afraid she would choke on real food. We sit as a family together for dinner and I think that helps. One tip I learned was to give her a plate of what you know she will eat and introduce one new item each meal time. So that she could start getting curious and maybe try the new food. My daughter is very similar to yours. She doesn't really eat meat. My daughter now eats turkey sandwich slices, grilled chilled from the BBQ, hot dogs (I know they're not that great but at least it's some meat.) Also maybe you could just hand her a piece of meat and see if she at least grabs it.

Oh I feel the stuggle momma! My 22month old used to be a struggle to eat anything! I just kept being persistent even tho it worked my nerves and patience. Also my girl was breastfed up til a month ago and I was told some breastfed babies don’t like some textures of foods so I’d shred the chicken and started her on that and after a little bit she ate it and worked her way up to cubed chicken and noodles. Also I’d eat in front of her and she’s always loved to be like momma so she would eat what ever I’d eat. But anyway my girl I hope babydoll starts eating more options!

I loved this video. Riley is so adorable. And it’s so sweet seeing Joe being cute with you. My daughter who is almost 2 would live on only fruit, yogurt, and cheese if I let her, haha. I liked the protein muffin mix - I’m going to have to try that! I’m definitely guilty of bribing her into eating her meat and vegetables - it’s hard not to because you want them to eat food that’s good for them. Have you tried steaming some cubes of sweet potato? That’s my daughter’s favorite and she’s like Riley and won’t eat carrots or corn either. Good luck to you, mama - you’re doing a great job!

That's very different from what portuguese toddlers eat. First of all, SOUP! (vegetable soup with either fish or meat there too). And then, they eat a little bit of whatever we adults eat - and at the same time and table. No special 'baby food' at all.

Thanks for sharing. And for being honest. I see comments saying that their kids are great eaters and while I’m happy for them that doesn’t help those who are struggling. My first two kids were great, non picky eaters who would eat normal food, pasta, meat, potatoes, veggies, fruit, sandwiches etc but my last child has been different even following the same method as the first two. My method was to put things she liked, things whe would try and things she didn’t like at each meal. She also always had at least a variation of what the other kids and adults were having. Plain bread and grated cheese and steamed squash rather than a grilled cheese and soup for the rest of the family. And we all ate together with no tv or screens. Not perfect and at two she has a small appetite and things she won’t eat but she’s a lot better now

I’m in the US, and I fed my kids the same food that I ate. Once they had teeth, no more baby food, nothing puréed. They loved fish, meat, vegetables, soup, fruit, etc. i love soup, so we ate a lot of soup. I didn’t buy junk. People in the US feed their kids so much junk and then wonder why they’re such terrible eaters! Crazy!
@Nassy1120

Im American and my toddler does not eat like that. I agree she would not be satisfied with eating a muffin and crackers as a meal. She eats what we eat. Home cooked meals, always a protein (chicken, fish, beef), with a veggie (broccoli, peas, corn, green beans, spinach, mixed veggies, etc) and a carb (rice, noodles, mash potatoes, sweet potato) for lunch and dinner. Snacks are fruit, yogurt, toast, peanut butter. Breakfast: eggs, turkey bacon/sausage, avocado, toast, orange juice, oatmeal with fruit. Milk when waking and before bed. All toddlers around this age get picky. Only advice is to keep offering foods over and over even if they barely eat it. It can take up tp 10-15 times of introducing a new food or food they don't like before they start eating it.

If you said she only eats peanut butter for protein and no kind of chicken/turkey etc. What’s wrong with her getting her chicken/meat from the “smoothie pouches”?

Have you tried sautéing the peas in butter or ghee? To mix in some extra fats and also introduce different flavors to the mix? Also gummy vitamins are a huge lifesaver!

way back in the 80s you could buy those glass bottle baby foods, but I just gave the kids real food in small little bites, like eggs, cheese, etc...hard to remember exactly what foods- that was in the 80s.....I remember Cheerios too. I also made home made apple sauce, French toast fingers...things like that......

I know you liked the canned packs of peas. I like to keep in hand frozen peas/veggies for my toddler and I just microwave a few tbsp at a time but keep the remainder frozen. We love the kodiac protein pancake mix to make cookies. We used and adapted the cookie recipe on the back. I use bananas instead of additional sugar and omit the chocolate chips since I don't usually have them on hand. My son likes to help pour in the oats and flour ingredients and then he has me turn on the light to see them. I've tried different variations where I use canned pumpkin and cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. Also does Riley like dips? Maybe she would have fun dipping some veggies like steamed baby carrots or steamed broccoli. Even if she didn't eat then that would get her some exposure. Keep at it momma I know it gets frustrating. It sounds like you're getting some good tips from the course.

I never realized you spoke Spanish. I’m Uruguayan and am having my first baby in May and my husband doesn’t speak Spanish but I want to teach my child, how do you incorporate Spanish?
@bessyisyourbestieforever3164

You just speak in Spanish to her only and your husband his mother tongue. Let her watch Spanish speaking cartoons bring her around your Spanish speaking friends and family and ask them to only speak in Spanish to her. It works I grew up trilingual. I am challenged now by teaching my daughters three languages and I am the only one that's trilingual. Planning on immersing them by moving countries. It is one of the best things you can do for your little one. Her brain will literally function better even in old age her chances of getting Alzheimers are reduced.

Is the copper bracelet decorative or utilitarian? Whenever the pediatrician says is the right time to allow a child to go off full-fat milk, and still have the brain getting what it needs for proper development, is the right time. I'm sure she gets fats and dairy from other sources. The docs should know what all the studies show. I take it Riley has never eaten a meal as a social involvement with other people, so needs the TV for company while she eats? Isn't it difficult to find an appropriate number of suitable things for her to watch? It's a lot of screen time. Does it make it hard for her to focus on people, especially when out for a meal in a public place? Fruit and cereal for breakfast sounds good to me. For protein will she eat egg salad or tuna salad or ham salad that is pretty well mixed? Those chips you showed - some kids love just plain old sugar snap peas in the pod because they are crunchy and sweet for a veggie and you can walk around with them since there's no goop. Don't the pouches with chicken and turkey give her some protein? You seem to have a good selection of things for her to graze on. It's a variety, which should help her get used to different shapes and colors and textures in foods. So many kids go through a fussy eater period and so many have requests meant to forestall bedtime. Do any of these books speak about a screen being a distraction even at a family meal, which takes the child's mental attention away from eating and getting on with it while the family is at table? It is so good that you know you need to keep presenting her with lots of possibilities. One day something will click and a week later something else might. She probably did need more BLW and not all pouches early on to get used to new foods showing up. But, my brother ate only peanut butter, bread, fluff, jelly, canned tuna fish, maybe a couple of breakfast foods during one period in his toddlerhood and he now travels and eats things in faraway places that I am guaranteeing you that neither you nor I would probably consider palatable. LOL. He's fine.

Do you give your kids Vitamin D drops. In Switzerland they give all babies vitamin D drops to take from 2 weeks-4 years. They do this to prevent Rickets disease. Do you have to do this in Miami? I'm going to run out of drops right when I move back to Miami. I'm lazy and don't want to go to the pediatrician right away so if I do need to do it in Miami I'll buy some in Switzerland.

@@jessicaely2521 :) you're welcome! here in portugal, those drops are only given to premature babies born in autumn or winter, or people with bone problems (like osteoporosis, etc) or people whose organism is particularly bad at absorving vitamin D. So if your kid was taking is just as a precaution, then you probably won't need it in miami because it's way sunnier... however, please remember that I am just a stranger online, not a practising MD :)
