What Nobody Tells You About How To Hit Driver Straight

Golfers struggle to hit driver straight because they are unaware of 3 small adjustments they need to make in the golf swing. In this golf video Danny Maude gets straight to the point and explains exactly what you need to do to hit driver straight.
At the start of the golf lesson Danny explains why a traditional style golf set-up actually prevents you from hitting the golf ball straight.
He then gives you a process to follow that will immediately start to straighten up any ball flight. Obviously on a golf course you don't want to be changing too much at once so the 3 golf tips are given in order of importance.
Golf Tip 1 takes the curve away while Golf Tip's 2 and 3 focus on making sure the golf ball set's off online so you hit the centre of the fairway.
Nobody seems to get told this and as a result spend years struggling to hit driver straight. I hope this helps you in your quest to be a better driver of a golf ball,

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZfaq and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Danny, I just broke 90 for the first time last week (87 actually!), and so much of that was due to understanding “the circle” from your videos. I was able to hit 12/14 fairways, and keeping the ball in play has been game-changing for me. Thanks for being my favorite golf coach, and please keep those videos coming!

Danny I’ve found this out on my own. You are the only person that I’ve seen go against the grain on the teaching. I stopped watching videos on KZfaq and changed irons to king cobra transition s. 16 year old clubs and I went from a 25+ handicap I’m down to a 3.7. This why old time golfers used a closed stance to compensate for the left-heading club head. (Look at Sam Snead's swing as an example.) In addition, pulled shots tend to go farther than straight shots. With the closed stance you are, in effect, hitting a pulled shot every time. The opposite is true with irons, especially shorter irons which is why the old time stance for shorter irons is open. The club head is still travelling down and away from your body with irons and more so with shorter irons. The open stance compensates for the outward path of the club head at impact. I think it is called D-plane or something like that.

Slow down the back swing. Helped me a ton when I picked up my first set of clubs. I was so used to just going after it that I kept slicing to the right. If you slow down the swing and then go for it, then you'll start noticing a difference. Stance and grip are important, but the swing 9 times out of 10 can kill your shot big time.

Wow. I always slice my shot and would rotate my body to the left of target. Never would have thought to rotate the body to the right. Makes so much sense once you learn how the face of the club is impacting the ball. Mind blown!

Everything you say makes sense to me. I even started taking lessons and my instructor was pleasantly surprised at how far I had actually come by myself using youtube. I told him it was all thanks to you. Now to my question. Isn't aiming to the right and closing the club face introducing more faults to my swing?

Terrific Danny, thanks. I especially appreciate the focus on the club being open or closed and the implications of that. The circle illustration is also very useful and (quite rightly) contradicts the many people (instructors included) who want the feet lined up parallel to the target. It's the little things that make all the difference.

I remember there was a hole that I just struggled with. OB right side compounded with cart path and a left to right slope of the fairway. I would get to the hole and aim left and still slice right. Round after round, I would aim further left and go further right. I realized that while my feet were aligned left the ball was further back in my stance - hence hitting it early with the face open. This is a great representation of that issue. Proper alignment is so critical for good shots. Great vid.

I bought a new driver this year.. and yes starts left with a weak fade result. I am hitting every fairway but sacrificing distance in sporadiac ways. When the swing is weak fade sacrificing at least 30-40 yards (while in the fairway). This is exactly what I was doing. I am going to try at range today to correct and get 40 yrds back! I will come back to give update!

Danny I had been hitting a nice draw/straight driver for months, but recently I started hitting slices again and haven’t been able to figure out what I’m doing because I’m pretty sure (albeit I have no access to launch monitor numbers) I’ve been swinging from the inside with a relatively square face. Your visual at 1:18 just made it click in my head that I’ve been recently trying to hit it with the ball way too far forward in my stance. Amazing how the tiniest little thing can alter the shot shape so drastically! I’m excited to implement these teachings again at my next range session and hopefully see the same results you’re displaying here!

Love the way you explain the mechanics of what is actually happening within the swing, easier for me to understand. Scary to set up slightly right on a tight fairway but definitely going to try and find that elusive draw. Thanks. Andrew.

Danny - can’t say enough about how helpful your instructions are. Love your visualizations to improve swing arc. Getting the weight right between left and right is super helpful. So my weight is forward (60%) with irons but my weight can be a little behind the ball with driver since I am hitting the ball on the upswing. Is that right? What weight distribution do you recommend when addressing the ball with driver?
