Synopsis | Princess Diana's final hours (1997)
The bald facts are known. Princess Diana was killed in a car, travelling at speed, by a drunken driver fleeing photographers. But now the funeral is over, the recriminations are beginning. Reporting from Paris, Richard Carleton pieces together the last hours in the life of Princess Diana. Talking with Paris bar owners he tells of the unstable, drink-loving man who drove Diana to her death, to the security man who should have been by the Princess' side, to those at the accident scene and those who shouldn't have been -- the photographers who chased Diana's Mercedes into the Paris tunnel, then snapped away as doctors tried to help the dying Princess.

It doesn't matter if she wasn't perfect looking. Mental issues don't exist. Just stupid doctors that made up silly diseases so they can do whatever?!?! She was upset because King Charles cheated on her with Queen Camilla through the marriage. She loved him but whatever. I'm ugly and don't have perfect skin or fake big white teeth. There are more important things in life than perfect fake looks. And if someone doesn't want me because I am not perfect looking ( eg plastic today generation) get stuffed and gf ,.

The audacity of Lezlie Verez, (French paparazzi photographer/ vulture,) to say what he said in this interview, is absolutely disgusting; with no shame, nor regard for the family’s of Princess Diana, Dodi, or Honorary Paul. I am appalled. Like most of the world, I will never forget the moment when I learned of that horrific incident. Within a month, I believe, the world lost Mother Teresa, Giani Versace, and Princess Diana. That year, it was a very sad end to summer. 💔😞

It's been reported she spent 14 days with her children in the last year of her life. She struggled with mental issues that affected her children, and she pulled William into her martial woes. She loved her children deeply but was unable to be the great mum she wanted to be. I admired Diana for her heartfelt humanitarian work. Her "good side" was so good. But I believe the average mother who is with her children 24/7, who has no access to privileges, is the true wonderful mom.

One thing (of many) that I found so odd…if Henri Paul had drank a bottle and 1/2 of wine, he was conversing normally, bending down, tying his shoe, not stumbling. A bottle and a half, allegedly. It depends on individual capacity, food consumed and how much time elapsed before driving. His motor skills would be impaired but he would not necessarily show outward signs of being drunk. It’s not enough to get falling down drunk on. It may have made no difference to his judgment. But this was certainly an accident nothing else. You’re living in TV land if you think you can predict the outcome of a traffic accident.

Not all people stumble and so on when drinking or are obviously" drunk", particularly seasoned alcoholics. Someone I was very close to for many years could drink an excessive amount that would "down" other people. But he could keep going. He could "pass" as sober around others in terms of behavior. An actual sobriety or blood test would should drunk, and the thinking needed for driving and other activities would be slowed down...but he did not necessarily "act drunk". But I could just look at his eyes...his face...and know.

He was ordered to drive them even though he was finished for the day. There is a startling video stating a very different version. They had only known each other 40 days. I agree with you. But, I think the R.F saw her as unpredictable. They weren't going to take chances. I believe they were planning it for awhile. But, were going back and forth. As soon as Dodi hit the scene. That was the final straw for the narcissists called the so- called R.F. My question is how did they convince Henri Paul? This family's had the money to buy the best security there was. They should have had a fleet of cars with them at all times. 2 in front. 2 in the back. Diana was one of the biggest people in the world 🌎. Shoddy security. I think his family was lax. The R.F used the crazy atmosphere around Diana as a foil to do her in......I also wonder what happened in that longgggg ambulance ride? Something is fishy. Personnel in the ambulance 🚑 were never interviewed. It was a hit job commanded at the highest levels at the behest of the Royals. Mainly, Prince Phillip. Charles knows. I also believe the Queen Mother egged Phillip on. She hated Diana. I don't believe the Queen knew. I really don't. She put her head in the sand as usual. Her and Charles have that in common. I still partly fault Al-Fayeds. The father should have had elaborate security. If she was still killed anyway. At least, it wouldn't have been on their watch. One more.....Paps found out their trick because the entire hotel was bugged. They were being trailed, as well. It was murder.

People don‘t like to acknowledge the banality of this tragedy, because a conspiracy ending (implying involvement of the Royal Family or guilt of the Paparazzi) is more romantic and fulfills the drama for an archetypal story of the eternal Princess. The banal and tragic story is simply that Henri Paul was speeding to avoid/outsmart the Paparazzi, and both Diana and Dodi were NOT wearing seatbelts. In a fast BMW, that can easily be fatal.

10:00 - if you know someone to be drunk is in charge of a motor vehicle because you've seen them drunk before they got in and instead of notifying the authorities of something potentially dangerous happening as they sped off you, instead, get on a motorbike to start pursuing them at high speed through a built-up area you are at the very least guilty of manslaughter in my opinion Of course it's just my opinion and the majority of people in this cruel world happily pay money to these people to harass others on their behalf

ABSOLUTELY! At last someone with common sense! These photographers, however obnoxious they may have been, were no security threat. Anyone saying otherwise is a complete idiot. There was indeed only a "chase" in the first place because the foolish driver of the Mercedes initiated one. And if the couple needed protection or privacy, opaque windows, or curtains could've ideally provided that. And if these measures weren't available, well, just seat still and have your bloody photo taken! Still better than having your life taken, isn't it?

Now, so many many years later, I question why ANY well known celebrated person, especially royalty, would dine in Paris AT A popular and public HOTEL for an uninterrupted non-noticeable paparazzi-free intimate dinner. Seriously???? The stalkers known as money-hungry photographers would always strive to acquire a special shot, but in all honestly, the Princess’s location-chosen by whomever-was certainly NOT the wisest choice even without the horrific outcome.😢

The hotel belonged to Dodi's father at that time. They were supposed to stay in one of the luxury suites , it was ready for them. But for some reason Dodi and Diana wanted to go to his appartment. Henri Paul was called in from his day off, so it can be assumed he was drinking on his day off. One can have a high tolerance to alcohol when one is used to it.

People need to stop accepting them being murdered as fact, there is barely any evidence to suggest it, and we will never know the full truth, so the best we can do is just know that they are gone, and the exact cause of the crash is unknown. You do not need to treat some unconfirmed fantasy conspiracy as fact because you want the tragic death of her to be more dramatic than it was. It's disrespectful to the people who died in that crash to try to alter the way she died and spread that as fact even though there is barely any evidence. Put this matter to rest
