So pleased you're back - especially with this edition. In the mid to late 1980's I certainly saw at Pinewood Studios a lonely police box sitting in the scenery store. When I asked to hire it for an event in the late '80's, I was told that I had just missed it as it had been 'broken up and burnt with other items just a few months ago'. What a waste of such ''TREASURES''. Perhaps this (other) Pinewood Box I saw was the one from Shepperton Studios, moved to Pinewood(?)

"Are you the one that everyone's been looking for? Treasure[s]?" - The Doctor, Dragonfire:) Police boxes - favourite topic😍 I worked out that the Deep End box was a prop as my parents grew up not far from the location and neither recalled a box and the pavement was too narrow anyway. And I noticed that the windows were clear so it had to be the Cushing box. Oh and I spent a very long day trying to track down a photo of the box's appearance on the Mike and Bernie Winters show - very excited when I finally found the box and matched paint marks. What did happen to it.... - Oh it would be a dream come true if it survived!!!

The story and fate of the Pinewood Box is a sad one. Such treasures as those used in Doctor Who production should be considered sacred (even though The Pinewood Box wasn’t used in Doctor Who it still deserved better). My heart goes out to all the Doctor Who props who have sustained heavy abuse or even outright destruction over the years. Those which remain really are survivors in the truest meaning of the word, and deserve great care to preserve them for future generations to treasure.

Lovely video. One to TREASURE!! I recall discussions on Twitter with Clayton and Jon that ended with us concluding that the Ealing box (the one from Thirty Years in the TARDIS) was almost probably the one that appears in The Lavender Hill Mob. There's a shot of a copper running towards a real box on location in the final reel but the following close-up shows him in the studio using a prop. I'm sure there was something in that close-up that lead us to believe the two were one and the same.

Fascinating video. I actually know what happened to the Pinewood box. I was fanatical about the show. In the late 1970s, I moved to London and joined some kind of movie heritage society with a couple of friends. The society was able to organize weekend trips to film studios, and one was Pinewood. We were very excited to get a hands-on, go-where-you-please tour which let us roam relatively freely in and out of buildings and around the grounds. In those days, the backlot was chaotic. There was junk everywhere, but fascinating movie junk, of course - props like giant chess pieces scattered around, and even the rubber Superman (minus its head) which was used for flying sequences in the first film. That had been thrown on the ground and was falling apart. I remember lifting it up and throwing it. Plus, we found what we were told was the Doctor Who TARDIS. It was standing outside against the wall of one of the workshops and, as I recall, was remarkably intact. I was able to 'play' in it. I went in and out several times, and was totally excited. Not long after, my friends and I decided we'd contact Pinewood with a view to maybe buying the abandoned police box, if we could afford it, since it was obviously doing nothing but sitting around getting old. So we called, and were told that shortly after the studio tour, the backlot was cleared and all the crap that was littering the place burned. That included the police box I was playing in. We missed owning it by about three weeks. So that's where it went. Btw, years later, I got to work at BBC TV Center in Shepherd's Bush. I had a security pass which enabled me to go in at weekends when nobody else was there. Wandering around alone - I'm guessing this was '88 or '89 - I went and found the prop shop where the TV TARDIS was being stored. It was right there, fully constructed - for transport purposes, they're usually dismantled and the pieces stacked in a heap - in the middle of the shop. Again, I 'played' in it like a total geek for about two hours. Nowadays, that would never be allowed, but back then there was nobody around and, as I said, I had a security pass. Hope that helps.
