@@andrewforbes146 i dont think your paying attention, he clearly showed that it was NOT a connecting rod failure. his last connecting rod failure, the mass exodus of 8 rods was a prototype set of rods he had never run before. clearly he is showing that he is willing to test parts in his own engine before he puts them in a customers engine.

@@paulcopeland9035 I listened. Any reputable company will have manufacturing records to show that the product received the proper processing. Bolts dont just fail like that unless there is a defect. Could be a stress riser like a nick or could be improper annealing. Worst case could be contaminated materials. They should have records and test results they can use to pin down the cause of the failure. The shape/size of the bolt/stud (new design) does not matter with respect to where that one failed. This applies to a test batch, an initial production run or the 1000th run. Of course if they are using some brand new material that has no history and little testing, yes, Steve was the guinea pig.

Back in the day K -boat racer Ron Bolton from Kelron Racing Ent from Paramount Ca who built my blown gas v-drive flat bottom drag boat used aluminum rods in my blown BBC . He said if you would ever throw a rod it would be safer with aluminum because it might chew up the rod and have a better chance it not locking up the motor as bad as a steel rod. Meaning hopefully would allow the prop to still turn and not freeze up and pitch you out the boat or split the hull up. Never had a problem with them and ran and sounded like mine was on alcohol.

Steve your generosity extended to vendors and racers is beyond words I don't have. If you were in the UK, Knighthood. For now I'm thinking Sir Racealot.

That’s crazy that you can still thread the broken bolt in and out. Definitely not deformed.

I guess its better that it happened to you than a customer. Looking forward to seeing you and the wagon at Sick Summer. Taking my Monte Carlo I bought 40 years ago in high school for my first drag and drive. Super excited.

Steve the corrosion issue with the aluminum rods is stress corrosion cracking. Have seen it a lot working on aircraft certain aloys tend to be more prone to the problem with constant cyclic loading making it more prone in certain parts. Thanks for the great videos hope to one day own one of those engines

Man you draggers are a whole different breed. I couldn't imagine spending countless hours and money to build something just to turn around and have to rip it back out

Its not just torque that measures main bolt performance. Its also impacts. High impacts are rich in high frequencies. Certain high frequencies can shatter brittle materials. (chemical bond resonance)

KZfaq is perfect for situations like this… it’s a personal motor, but with R&D parts - so: - costs here are tax deductible as R&D expenses. ✅ - great content with the documented failure (people love chaos 😂). ✅ - video revenue helps fund future chaos. ✅ Here for every min of it! Thanks Steve for taking us with you on this journey and dropping faith based knowledge bombs. 👏

I’d like to hear how they’re doing material testing on those studs. Aerospace the whole supply chain would be certified from the mine to the finished bolt with checking of material properties along the way.
