With Jimin hitting number 1 in billboard hot 100 with a largely Korean-language song and barely any radio spins, many are claiming it’s an “artificial” hit.
Many claim that as always, ARMYs mass streamed and mass bought the album but the general population actually doesn’t listen to the song and, most likely, doesn’t even know about the song.
Jimin reached the summit of the Billboard hot 100 because ARMYs manipulated the charts.
In all honesty, I am sick and tired of discussing this. But the truth is that Jimin’s journey to the top offers many lessons to Asians artists and fans. It is an epitome of how Western entertainment discriminates against non-Western artists. Jimin got to the top with the sheer strength and force of his own efforts and ARMY.
And if we want a chance at expanding our market or create a better system for ourselves in our own countries or continent, what we should be doing is learning from Jimin’s journey, not bashing it.

Jimin made it despite and inspite of all the obstacles. The best response to detractors is to hit the highest spot. The song is great. I definitely played all the versions on Spotify to determine my favourite version, however all versions are good with an almost decadent entrancing quality to the sound. The music arouses thoughts/feelings/memories of a time gone or longed for. It sometimes creates feelings of sadness, then happiness but always one of longing for or remembering... A quite moving song. He might not have intended this reaction. Well done Jimin. Stay Blessed.💜💜💜

The way his radioplay was almost negligible even with an English version just says more about the western industry than army to me. And truthfully we weren't aiming for no.1 or even top 5. It just happened for us.😅

It happened because it was an extremely heartfelt and solid album with an amazing GP friendly title track and hard hitting choreo for pre-release . Jimin worked really hard for this album.

Fans listening to the songs and buying album of their artist becomes chart manipulation when it comes to BTS. Any other band or artist does this, no one say a thing including payola. But because the radio in us refuses to play the song, the song is regarded as not good. Well give the song a good listen, it is that good for anyone to give listen to it multiple times. As for the critic who said jimin is not talented, well he sure is jealous because jimin is hell of talent, hardwork and humble as well. His voice is so good, unique and mesmerizing. People are betraying their jealously.

As an Asian American I totally agree that the western music industry does not give artists of other countries the recognition they deserve. As RM said inMic Drop ‘haters gonna hate”. Jimin is a talented artist who has earned and deserves the best💜

Foreign artists are treated the same way in other countries as well. The Koreans wouldn't want a foreigner to enter their charts or win their awards.

First of all Army doesn't control the billboard. Secondly Army could only stream and listen. But haters are always looking for ways to dethrone BTS from wining anything. But the harder haters try, the more BTS just became more successful. BTS are the most awarded Artists of all times. Close to 1000 awards already. MJ was the only artist who got 1000 awards, before he passed. So to all those f...king haters, that don't know, what BTS went through. To get to where they are now. They literally has to start from bottom. Making their company Bighit one of the most successful company in korea. But now they changed lable to Hybe. BTS are still making Hybe bigger than ever. Jimin just made Hybe hit the biggest jackpot in 4 days. With Jimin getting no.1 on billboard Hybe stocks went up huge. Thanks to Jimin ! So haters shut your f...king opps !

Billboard has their rules, and if the rules are broken, they won't credit an artist as #1. Jimin earned it, and it doesn't matter what people argue. The rules are the rules. He gained this rating based on their rules. It is racist that people can't believe a Korean artist could accomplish this by their rules. This video is excellent. Thanks for making it.

'Payola' they old pay and we'll play your song, pay as more and we'll play it at prime time, play even more and we'll play it every 10minutes. The songs you hear most on your American Radio stations are the one's the artist labels have paid the Radio stations to play it's as simple as that.

@@varmi924 They are only a disturbition centre/agent they're not BTS label. BigHit and HYBE refuse to use illegal means. They've been accused of legal means before and took their accusers to court in order to prove their innocence. Their company will not get involved with any thing illegal. Pay for play is illegal so yeah they're not going to pay.

Excellent video, I really appreciate channels like yours and Boracity. You are informing and educating the public about the inner workings of the music industry and I’m sure the gate keepers are not happy about the exposure. Since BTS entered the scene they have slowly been changing the relationship between artists, fans and the music industry. I’m a black woman living in the US and every time I hear people say (especially Americans) they are shocked how the US music industry discriminates against BTS I laugh. I want to say have you been living under a rock, unfortunately I expect no less. A lot has to do with control and money, throw in the race element and boom the US music industry will act like they don’t exist except if BTS can be used for their benefit. Also we live in an age where information is at our fingertips but people rather argue instead of looking up facts/statistics. Love videos like this, I want more.❤

@SonderDAze X Ok, so that's a grand total of five. Six if you count My U. Out of something over 300 songs. Now let's compare that to Spotify, where over in the K-pop category, BTS accounts for more streams than 13 other K-groups combined. You're making my point for me because that's exactly correct: the US radio industry very rarely chooses to play songs from non-Western countries. That is: England, Scotland and Wales; Canada; Australia. Notice something about this? Dominantly white and English-speaking. So the American music industry, which is adamantly ignoring vast portions of the globe, continues to push the ridiculous notion that US charts reflect the top music in the world. Which they do not. It's the top music *in the US* with a few Western guests here and there and the odd rarity every few years like 'Macarena', 'Gangam Style', 'Bazinga' or 'Like Crazy'. Yeah: BTS, like the rest of K-pop and most other genuinely global music, is the victim of US music industry prejudice. And other generalized anti-Asian prejudice as well, of course.

@SonderDAze X No, I certainly don't expect Western artists to be featured in K-pop charts, or award shows, because South Korea makes it extremely clear that their charts and shows are a measure of Korean music only. They don't make any pretense of measuring other countries' music. The Hot 100 is *supposedly* domestic only. Which makes it an absolute mystery as to why any song from any other country ever shows up there, doesn't it? The excuse that passes off this hypocrisy is, 'It's a measure of what's *popular* in the US'. Or as you said, it's must be sponsored by a US label. There's a whole lot of popular music in the US that doesn't originate from there and gets systemically passed by due to the radio-billboard handshake and the lack of sponsorship, and it's due to the US music industry not wanting music on Billboard unless it is firmly under the control of some US label. The US music industry wants to have it both ways; they want the distinction of making the best music in the world, while firmly restricting the conditions under which the music is ranked. The grammys is the best possible example of this: instituted "to celebrate excellence in American music", and in the same breath, declaring itself "the most globally prestigious award in music." One or the other, pal, not both.

I love this. I agree with you...what happened to Jimin should be an eye opener...imagine no air play and yet he got the #1 place. Jimin and his team were blessed big time because they all worked really hard for this FACE album. Plus the Armys...those ate what you call TRUE fans. They will do anything to help their idols. Unlike others they only live their idols' positive side. Congratulations Jimin and team.

I"m over 50, since I was a little girl of 5--7 I can remember sitting in front of the stereo/tv/radio floor entertainment system. Some of you may remember the HUGE floor model tv's where you could watch tv, then it had a record player and radio and there was sections on the outside to store records. Well anyway I would sit in front of the side speakers and play whatever song I loved at that moment over and over and over and over again. I would practically listen to the song until I was almost sick of it. Listening to songs on repeat is what I do if I love the song. I don't understand how someone would try and dictate the way I prefer to listen to music I love or say it's wrong and I'm a bot.

I know where you are coming from the same here. I used to drive my mother insane playing 2 or 3 of favourite songs over and over again either on a record player or tape cassette. I still now as a much older women listen to my favourites on and off throughout the day as I'm working, cleaning my house, going for a walk, training in the gym, driving my car, or taking the bus.

I had a portable 45" player and I listened to the song of the moment over and over again, especially since I listened to a lot of songs in languages I didn't know and I wanted to learn them phonetically. The thing that burns my goat the most is that the streaming services don't quibble about taking my money yet want to dictate how I listen?! I'm the customer here; I should be able to decide what I pay for and how I use it.

I'm 40 so a bit younger, but same. I would literally wear out tapes of albums that I loved. There were some that I had tapes, which I wore out, then bought the CD, which I played until it was so scratched it was unplayable, and I bought a second copy of the CD. I don't understand this idea that if you play it on repeat it's cheating. Nah fam that's what you do when you LOVE it.

Well done. I have been ignored by radio stations when requesting Like Version. Like crazy is an awesome song. People just hate that it’s great. It’s a classic 80’s synth pop perfect in clubs. HYBE had Ithaca labels’ Scooter Braun at the helm of HYBE America. This guy represents Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and in the past Taylor Swift- Why isn’t Jimin’s perfect radio song getting played? Jimin gets massive hate from Antis, solo Stan’s, some members of other fandoms have actually tried unsuccessfully to sabotage Jimin. He receives a scary amount of hate. He is getting dth threats on Twitter and other vile comments. It’s jealousy that it’s Jimin. If it was JK, there would be only positive thing said. . People would not wish him dth We need to celebrate all of the artists’ solo endeavors.

Just a quick point. In the U.S., DJs haven't been choosing the songs they play in decades. It is the Program Directors that schedule the songs. This is who the record labels lobby to get their artists played. So, instead of having to schmooze 7-8 DJs per station, they now only have to schmooze 1. Payola is VERY real. Also, radio in the U.S. only exists to sell advertising. It's not about the music. ARMYs are focusing on the right things to help achieve these records. Radio is irrelevant. Great video!!

The main reason why K-artists aren't allowed to stand up for or promote another is because their company doesn't permit it. (Which is why I was so glad to see that Taeyang (Vibe) did the TT dance challenge with Jimin.)

It just makes me have no respect for KPop acts. They are just manufactured acts which is sad because there may be good ones among them, but it would be difficult to respect them. I think the media too lacks any credibility if they support such shallowness. Critique artists and their work also call out unfair practices and give credit where credit is due.

@ystrw I used to believe that was the reason too, but then I remembered they mentioned bts often before this. And Hybe had already been letting their artists promote with people outside the company even before Taeyang, so they had no problem being associated before. After I commented, I did see G-dragon's group photo from his Nike event with Jimin in the middle that seemed to be a show of support. I was very happy to see it and my respect goes to everyone who was in it for the quiet support they gave showed him.

@Dearly Beloved so that begs the question of why those who are outside or free of their company do not at least advice the public to treat artist better as a whole, not only BTS. Granted its not easy to stand up for what is right, and the toxic environment they have in their industry (and perhaps in others but more noticeable in Korea) can be "fatal". But this is a problem not only in the music industry but in many other situations. Maybe they are doing in their own way by collaborating etc but toxic fans will be everyone's downfall. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The West have to accept the fact sooner or later that the world does not revolve around them. At least in terms of the entertainment industry. They will have to accept that great artists do not only come from the US. If they want to retain the respect of the world for their Grammy and Billboard charts, they have to wake up and change their perspective. If they don't, they will soon lose the business and reputation they've been enjoying so far. Like you said in one of your videos, Asia can also have our own Grammy and Billboard charts. When that time comes (and i hope it's soon) ... guess who will come knocking at Asia's door to promote their artists?

Excellent and true video!!! Everything you said was on point. We want to know who is the gp anyway. The gp should be everyone in the world and having radio plays, but that's not the case. Jimin gets no radio plays, and radio stations can't even play the songs, so other people can it. Jimin is showing the US music industry that he got to #1 on his own with army help without radio plays. It's like PDogg said"Jimin will end Kpop"😊

The use of resources in support shows key points as facts and not personal opinions, allowing the viewer to see how what they are doing to tear down is not good business nor good strategy. As you said Jimin planted his flag on the summit, and it's time to focus on the right and positive until the game changes and US decides to practice good profitable business or start to lose its piece if the pie as a goal to other Countries as what is happening in every other industry. I love how Jimin's album tells a story in the way it was presented from the first track to the last, it is interconnected. And it showcases diversity each song is of different genre. It's really a feast to the ears. I don't know if there's any other artist who's doing it like this. Like Crazy is such a bop, you wouldn't think it is a Korean music. It's got The Weekend vibes in it. GP loves it that's why it got #1 hit. Nobody really expected it to reach the top even army. But Jimin's dedication in his craft must not be underestimated. He puts his heart and soul in his work and always adds an element of surprise in everything that he does which leaves everyone in awe and wanting more.

Really good video it’s insane that instead of celebrating a historic feat for an Asian soloist ppl are questioning its validity. Jimin got to the number 1 within the bb rules period. Like crazy was subjected to the same charting criteria as everyone else and it came out to the top. And his #1 came after bb changing their rules about sales which is obviously targeted towards armys and bts buying power so why is jm suddenly manipulating the charts?! Bb reviewed the data and it all checked out so what’s the issue? I see songs with low streams and sales but high radio but no one questions it. Like radio? That’s a passive media. Ppl listening to a radio station can not choose what song they hear and somehow that’s totally fine. Ppl buying and streaming decidedly do so coz they want to About geffen let’s not forget that one of the biggest artists in their roster is Oliver Rodrigo. Armys who are in Butter era knows very well how much this record label pushed Olivia to get her to the number 1 ranking and beat butter in the charts. I remember there was that infamous car wash Spotify event. Her giving out merch to fans. Starbucks deals. I remember her song being advertised to Spotify every single time a Spotify ad pops up and Spotify trying to autoplay her song to me. Also watching tiktok vids of locals getting tired of hearing Olivia on radio coz it seems like she’s played after the third song or something. So what I’m saying Geffen has done the massive push for an artist but they’re obviously doing nothing for Jm. They didn’t do Spotify playlisting didn’t do am promo like come on where’s jm’s am interview? No radio interview just the tonight show appearance but that’s more on Jimmy falcon’s cozy relationship with bts and Jimin rather label push. The only thing they do is provide alternative cover for digital single and once again that’s for sales. Jm needs support for streaming and radio but geffen seems to be doing nothing. Btw the versions for like crazy is five not 4. They missed the instrumental version As for like crazy quality I have read so much bs from antis but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone attacking the song quality. It always that lc have 29 ver and jm “can’t sing” but not lc is a garbage song. Actually a lot of locals like that song. There’s a popular tweet about lc where the qrts are locals just telling how much they love it. And also on tiktok the comments are locals loving the song and asking what song it is. Just want to share my experience reading from the bs spouted by jealous and insecure antis It’s really annoying how much hate jm is receiving but whatever lc crazy is number 1 with no western artist collab no radio support and even barely there label support. Its success is largely driven by armys genuine love for jm and the song itself why is jm shamed for having a LARGE AND DEDICATED fandom. Any artist would kill for a fandom like army which includes the haters fave. I’m sorry you’re not as large and dedicated and organised as us. Also jm helped co-write and compose the song so he can proudly say he has written a number 1 single in the most important music chart in the world So Jimin-ah congratulations baby for everything you’ve achieved during your debut coz really this bb hot number 1 is just a fraction of the records he set and broken. As they always say success is the best revenge.

To be honest I think some people never stop to spread hate against BTS.....i wonder how much time these haters just spend to criticize someone or spread toxicity 😅😅....? I remember some saying that they are so big now it's easy for them to top the charts but it's never easy they worked so hard for this.....and till this date they working hard to give something new to try different things.....just because your favs don't top the charts doesn't mean you start judging the person who is at top.... your fav also have big achievement celebrate those but please stop hate someone just bcz they are doing good.....

Congrats to JImin and his team. I think the song is so relatable - trying is escape overwhelming negative feelings. Your videos are always well done, and you make excellent points/facts. As you note the blow back is laughable considering how the system is designed. I can't explain the low radio play other than business discrimination because I live in a small town in the US West and Walmart is always playing BTS and sells BTS merch. BTS fans are here even where country music is prominent. The bashing of popular singers/entertainers is awful (not just BTS). Whenever there's an article about Taylor or Miley or Beyonce, or Harry, etc. people say horrible, horrible things in the comments. Misplaced rage? Anyway, I'm so proud of Jimin. Thank you for your channel.

was it not that jimin landed with a controversy when he was unable to sing his "like crazy" song correctly in live TV? they put up so many excuses. but anyway, how one is able to sing his own song correctly don't matter anymore. Jimin has sung that song multiple times, including a live acoustic version. So if you're just here to spread hate disguised in a facade of criticism, you can quite frankly keep crying.

Your videos always speak nothing but facts. Kpop embarrassed itself and validated the criticism it gets by attacking it own star. Those attacks only gave the western pushback kpop already get more power to use against them all. My hope is that more people see your videos and become more informed about the global industry instead of staying willfully ignorant to tear down others. In the end, they hurt everyone and not just their target.

It's going to be very difficult to push that kind of message into K-pop fandom. The fans and the companies have focused so intently on being ferociously competitive with anything that even resembles a rival that getting them to back down and quit attacking their stars (whether it be BTS or SKZ or someone who hasn't debuted yet) will be a major challenge. And appealing to globalization isn't going to help much. A lot of SK does not want to depend on a bunch of K-pop kids to drive globalization, and a lot of K-fans seem to consider Westernization of their music to be downright criminal. Or at least, they respond as if they did. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to K-pop next year, considering that not only did HYBE shares rise significantly on Jimin's remarkable accomplishment, the Big 3's shares rose a bit too.

I loved, loved - Like Crazy by Jimin of BTS, it’s relatable to many of us, and when you add the melody you have a win win situation and for me the music takes me back. My playlist on KZfaq has the Song, MV, performance on jimmy fallon, dance practice for the performance on jimmy Fallon, the performance for the different shows in Sk, the acoustic version on Leemujin show, wow I so love that version. I play it because I love the song, not just to make charts, thats just a happy, wonderful extra bonus. If it does not happen again, we don’t care, Jimin made history without trying and nobody can take that away from him. Can you believe when I requested the song it was not even an option on the radio stations I listen to 😢, and even after requesting it, it’s still not in the options, fair, do these people even know the meaning of the word. You create a game with rules and just because Jimin Win following the rules you created , the same rule every other artist is using, you complain? Really. No Gp listened, seriously, it debut on Jimmy Fallon show, a lot of Gp heard that song and saw the performance and they know it, so how people can even have the nerve to say things they KNOW are false and act all superior about it. I learned that my streams on Spotify were invalid as i Looped the song, sorry but when I like something I play it over and over, I am not going to change and I think a lot of those streams Spotify took away came from Gp like me who just kept listening to a great song over and over.😂😂

Nothing but the facts. Thank you, thank you for this video. It’s hard to argue against the facts and data. Jimin has produced, in my opinion, a masterpiece. He is truly a multitalented artist who I feel has not been given the opportunity reveal those talents to the world. We’ve gotten glimpses here and there but then “they” put baby back in the corner. Now, that he has gone through the entire process of creating, producing, releasing and promoting a solo album, I’m hoping he will have gained enough confidence to put out another album. I was so excited to hear that Jimin would be releasing his first solo album, I kinda expected a BTS style song or something like his other solo songs (Lie, Serendipity, Filter, etc). “FACE” is a total game changer and a huge surprise and I am ecstatic. I like this new side of Jimin and I want more, I’ll wait.

I love this video. I may be american, however, I am not a big fan of american music. I love BTS, and as Army, I can say that we waited a long time for Jimins solo album and it does not disappoint. Most of mainstream american music, I don't care for but would never think to bash them or their fans. It is fact that the west is not only extremely racist but also very xenophobic. It's a shame. I think that most of the people complaining, have never taken the time to actually listen to the music, they hear one person say something and like sheep follow a goat they get in line to follow the leader without ever checking out the music. Sad,sad,sad.

Who knows the value of Like Crazy and JIMIN himself? ARMY, fans around the world, people that liked the song or Jimin just because we recognized good music and a talented artist. Who fights against this natural effect? Traditional Music Industry and charts, American music. Why? Power, money, comfort zone, discrimination, fear of unknown Effect on people? Distrust in "traditional methods", questioning, disrespect for the industry. What's next? Keep listening to good music (BTS, OT7, Jimin, etc), ignore charts, use media to let them know that maybe is time to look up, around and change or disappear 'cause we want real artists not playing games. I totally agree with you! Personally, I don't base my music choices on BB because as you said, it is geared mainly toward American singers. I would love to listen to more varied artists worldwide, as there are many many talents artists. Ji- min is not just a beautiful singer, he is also an art performer! Captivating, mesmerizing! It's just because it's Jimin. They were expecting a middling performance for a debut Album w/ no collaboration but got a critical and commercial success instead. Jimin wrote from the heart and it showed his music was so relateable for a lot of people and unfortunately w/ his success ALL of those who were jealous of it came out of the wood work with half of those being shippers and toxic stans of his members. Jimin did great he charted in charts even BTS never broke into he's a great artist that will leave his own mark just because he makes great music. His Album top to bottom is a masterful debut. Haters are really just gonna hate no matter what good Jimin does.

His own company underestimated him thus the very short promotional period, no help at all when fans complained about youtube and no cooperation when it came to submitting the song to radio stations in US for airplay. And now certain company people are making a play to hype up JK with a western collab - he cant do it on his own like Jimin?

Hybe America CEO is already promoting it while still in recording stage yet Army /Jimin stans demanding Hybe give radio stations copy of Jimin's record so they can be played didn't even bother doing it. No hate on the boys I hope they all make their own records BUT HYBE really did Jimin dirty and intentionally killed midstride Like Crazy's momentum mostly in the US and the international market. Like Crazy song honestly is better than most of their recent releases as a group/solos w/ collabs and it showed when it charted in places even BTS failed to chart well.

Thank you very much for this reaction. There has been an analysis as well of US and European producers manipulating radio promotions just to make it to top. But with Jimin's, HYBE never put a single penny for it to become well-known. I've been requesting from radio stations because they avoid playing Jimin's songs..thanks to a KZfaqr sharing links for Army's to vote. Thank you very much for this clarification for those haters.

I think you’re right in everything you said. Jimin’s album and mvs are art. A reflection of his feelings during the pandemic we all can relate to. I don’t get tired of listening to his beautiful voice & watching him dance is a joy. BTS & Jimin create quality music, meaningful songs & it’s a shame some people miss them because of racism. Take the time to listen BTS music, I guarantee you will find yourself in it.

Thank you. In my country The Netherlands they boycot BTS on the radio stations. They didn't play Jimin's song at all. Funny thing is that for example Jisoo's song they are playing on the radio stations. The reason is; 1) she is a female 2) she is Asian ( a minority) 3) also she is from a girl group and that is special in my country The Netherlands In my country The Netherlands they look down on groups that only have men In their opinion it is for little screaming girls Funny part is that men can like girl groups It is not considered to be for little boys but, for grown men Thank you again. Haters will always find something to discredit Jimin's effort. You are right in saying: just because the artist that you like was not able to do it to the top does not give you the right to discredit other people's effort. I said this before and I'll say it again to those who claim to hate Jimin's songs, then do not listen to it. You cannot control other people or the fans of Jimin to support him because he deserves it. Have a life haters. The world will be a beautiful place to live in without toxic individuals around. Spread positivity and affirmation not negativity. Spread love and happiness not toxic poisons from your hearts.

I'm a non-Asian Gen-X'er who lives in the U.S., and I like this song. I love many types of music--rock, soul, disco, hip-hop, country. Very simply, I follow Jimin and BTS because I like what they do. "Like Crazy" has good lyrics--you can interpret them different ways, whether that's in terms of Jimin's journey within BTS and questioning what comes next for him, or in terms of our own experiences. I like the sounds in this song--they remind me of 80's new wave and some of the contemporary acts who that echo that era. I am a fan of BTS in all its multi-media glory, not just of one song or album. But I wouldn't listen to a song if I didn't like the music. The points made in this video about "Like Crazy" make total sense to me. Americans need to pay more attention to Asia, especially South Korea, and show more love to their artists.
