Reading (& understanding) a contact before you sign should apply to all contacts, not just cruise ship contracts.

How many people read EUA's online, banking, rental cars and even checking into a hotel. Cruise workers, mostly, come from 3rd world countries and are desperate for a job on a ship.
@gingerjani

Yeah, I thought that was common sense. I mean, my parents always taught me to never sign something before reading it so... yeah, it's kinda obvious. Signing a document without reading it actually sounds really.. stupid.

Lucy, again all my sincere condolences on the passing of your grandad (we can see the sadness in your heart during the first 45 seconds of this video). Enjoy your time with family / loved ones. The “it isn’t for everyone” isn’t always true.. some people are just unlucky and will have a bad manager or get into a toxic relationship, like most things in life it’s about luck. If you get fired the company have to pay for your flight home but if you quit you have to pay

I left my cruise ship one month early due to my mom's passing. At the time the shop was in Alaska and I love in Cape town. I was notified around 0800 dressed as a brown bear having photos taken - 1st contract stuff. Anyway by 12 I was off the ship and booked into a hotel and flights booked home. That was amazing. But my manager for the second half of my contract was a real arsehole determined to prove that he's management material. As such we would be on duty in port with no passengers stopping by the gallery. We bumped heads often as I felt we needed all the breaks we could get. In my exit interview I remarked on how he treated us and then soon heard he was taken down a level to assistant manager. I hope he learned from this. At times I do miss the ship and the destinations.

Hello Lucy, I'll say again I'm sorry for your loss, my grandfather passed away 27 years ago and I think about him and miss him every day but now it's happy thoughts about him and not sad. Even though a lot is happening in your life you seem to be a very strong person and I believe you will pull through it.

I worked for celebrity cruises and their policy is if you have to leave early before your contract is up you have to pay for your own flights I had to pay for my own flight when I left it wasn’t bad cause it was just Miami to Chicago but I know over seas flights can be pricy especially last minute ones.

Lucy, it is clear that you, like almost all of us, grieve when we lose someone we love. You are lucky to be at home. Strange that you left your job and made it home to be there. I see that you have made another significant change. The color of your hair. Another sign of leaving your old job and making other changes. I know that changing the hair color, cut, or style is a significant change for women. Good for you.

I’m going on carnival in September. I work with the kids onboard running the kids programs

Virgin is just like any other company out there,just looking out for the bottom line and the profits. People treat Branson like god over there but he has a lot of companies under him that went bankrupt/did tax evasion. When I quit VV, I gave them my 2 weeks notice and it was all fine and dandy until the day came to pack up and then they told me that I did not give them enough time before resigning and thusly I will be marked as a "no re-hire". It doesn't matter to me as I'm not planning to go back but it proves my point that they will use you until the last day and then ditch you. If i knew that id be marked as a no-rehire then id quit the same day,what even is the point of the two weeks notice. Anyway,thank you for coming to my TED talk.

After your experience as a crew member I'm really curious to know how you feel about cruising for fun as a passenger sometime in the future and if there are any cruise lines that you would and wouldn't consider based on how well you have seen/heard the crew treated? @@lauraward4483 If you have any insight on how well Disney treats their crew in comparison to other lines that would be super helpful. If you dont fancy facing the music to your manager and colleagues re. leaving the ship, you can always fail the medical. The ENG1 crew medical is quite strict, and you will fail it for overweight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. I'm not saying make yourself ill deliberately, but if you fail your medical the company cannot hire you, but they can leave the door open for a later date when your medication has been shown to be working, or you lost weight etc. Just a thought. If you're A1 count your lucky stars 😁.

If this is what happened to you / is happening to you? Then you need to run away from that "captain", fast....and hire an attorney. Perhaps a fellow crew member can help you, or look at various crew websites? I wish you the best. (also, you may wish to ask for advice/assistance from a Seafarer's Mission in a port nearby?)

I believe one of her previous video talks about the reason for quitting. If I recall, it has something to do with her cosmetic company (which she was selling products for) and Virgin ending their contracts, which meant her store wouldn't be on her ship. I may have gotten a few details wrong or left out, so check one of her previous video.

Her grandfather passing WAS NOT one of the reasons she quit. That happened after she returned home after quitting. Lucy's last few videos have discussed in some detail why she left VV and Harding.
