NOTIFICATION SQUAD: Where'd you want to see Natsuki and I travel to next?! We're hoping to do more of these excursions throughout 2021! And a special thanks to Sharla & Shiori from Tokyo Creative who came along on short notice to help us film our journey. They're lurking in the background throughout the video. I have to say the Tottori sand dunes exceeded my expectations, and I'd love to re-visit the region if not to explore, then certainly to shoot NATSUKI OF ARABIA. (ALSO stick around the for the outtakes right at the end of the video 😂).

Natsuki has perfect english. He then raises the bar higher, by communicating entirely in avant-garde poetry. (I'm serious - not sure if it's the man or his english, but always manages to riff a few words into a greater meaning than their number or the constraints of grammar should make possible)

Natsuki is so funny and interesting whenever I see him in these videos, because when he's speaking japanese he's seemingly just a normal nice dude, but when he's speaking english which I get the feeling isn't a super strong suit, him probably thinking ''man it'd be fun to shoot golfballs off this dune into the water'' in japanese, in english instead becomes this super charismatic ''LET'S GOLF!'' along with a showy charade of shooting a golf ball, I love it so much. Also something about him REALLY reminds me of Toru Yano, I wonder if anyone's ever told him that before.

I'm from Russia and our sleeper trains are not nearly as fancy. Kinda felt jealous till Chris said they announced every stop. It kinda defeats the purpose of riding the train at night :( That's indeed stupid and - may I say - unnecessary :D The community class beds don't get any announcements at all in Russia and I never had problems with that. But on the higher class, where you have 4 people in one room, there is actually a person who would make sure you're awake and head your tee by the time you need to leave haha

And the whole getting woken by the announcements thing? TAKE EARPLUGS. Put your phone under your pillow with an alarm on vibrate - boom, problem solved! I do it all the time. Japanese trains run like precision clockwork, so you can use that method for any stop along the line. These sleeper trains are a beautiful thing - sleep AND travel at the same time! Bullet trains are faster, but they take a slice out of your day in a way that sleeper trains don't. I'm surprised Chris didn't ruminate on this in his usual thoughtful manner...

I’m not a fan of flying so I’ve taken two cross country trains multiple times in the US. Amtrak’s California Zephyr to San Fran and the Southwest Chief to LA. Very similar to the Japan experience except with a decidedly rundown 1970’s vibe and over three days. That said, it was absolutely amazing - great scenery and very cool people.
