@@chikkuchikku5598 i had to focus on math so i used mainly math videos from here but a few random ones for specific question types. khan academy and the official SAT practice test book were where i did the consistent practice; i also met w/ my math teacher in the days leading up to boost my confidence

0:11 - data from test optional admissions 1:06 - pulling data from kids durin pendemic 3:45 - starts here: decent 1000 - 1200 5:08 - good around 1200 - 1300 6:21 - very good in the 1300s 7:27 - great in the 1400s 8:24 - excellent in the 1500s

Rensselaer Polytechnic is such a gem of a school, it's a shame it wasn't even mentioned on this list. After graduating my oldest went to Microsoft and my second went to Amazon, both for Software Engineers. My third has his foot in the door for JNJ for Chem Eng. They were average kids that got an incredible education as proven by their technical interviews. I think you really need to mention RPI in more of your videos.

Thanks for sharing! I am really glad you put this video in the context of what schools the student is looking to apply to, since SAT scores are all relative. Since I score a 1500+, it blows my mind to think about being in the top 99%. I think the part about scores being inflated because schools don't have to report bad test scores since students aren't submitting bad tests scores makes sense. However, I do tell my students that submitting scores is beneficial to them if they can because the U.S. World News Report requires a school to report at least 50% of its students' scores in order for them to remain competitive in the rankings. Thus, more elite schools will take more students with scores than without to maintain their coveted spots!

Just wanted to put this comment here to say - I got into Dartmouth College while submitting a 1280 SAT score. I do have some extenuating circumstances, but even still do not fret if your SAT score is not the greatest! Just talk to your counselors and they'll help you figure things out.

I had to travel 2 hrs to test and was sick the day of the test 45 years ago.....1250 on SAT----31 on ACT.....did not finish degree until 2013 though

What does it mean exactly when the schools have maybe a 35% enrollment of those submitting scores enrolled versus the schools that have a 48% - does it mean that the school at 35% enrollment is accepting more students who do NOT submit scores than those that do so the percentage enrolling shows the lower percentage? Hope that makes sense.

I got a 1510 or 2250 (800M, 710V, 740W) back in 2006. Decided between UCLA and WashU. Went to WashU. Did not get into MIT (top choice).

What's the reasoning behind not going test optional if you score in the 25th percentile? Wouldn't it make more sense to submit only if you're in the median score range?

If you have special circumstances that you are in which may have affected your score, your score may look better to a college. If you have no special circumstances, then its best to not send your score.

How does this evaluation change of your a non native English speaker? Would a 790 Math/660 English SAT be enough for Harvard if English is your second language?

I dont think it changes as much, but when u write ur essay u can add that in. Idk as much but that makes the most sense

What if you have a big divide? My daughter has a math score under 600 but a verbal score over 700 for a 1320. She also has an unweighted 4.0 in AP and IB courses, 5s on both AP tests she took so far and a 7 on her first IB test.

Hi Brooke! I was wondering if a 1540 raw scored compared to a 1540 super score would be seen different. I have a 1540 super score and am debating between taking the SAT the fourth time to get a raw score around that range. Do you think it’s worth giving it a try or focusing on the ACT now. I’m a junior btw!

dude, you're clear for standardized testing. unless you're going for HYPSM, you're done for it. colleges see superscore the same as superscore. i don't even know how would you worry about that tbh

If the other elements of your application (essays, extracurricular activities...) are as good as your class rank, your application could still be great.

Hey Brooke, would a 1520 superscored SAT, made from a 1490 (780M / 710E) and a 1450 (710M / 740E) be looked down upon by schools that have 1520 right at the bottom of the middle 50%? Would raw 1520 be a considerable improvement?

Colleges don’t care if its a superscore or a raw score so really if you’re fine with a 1520 super score then you’ll be fine and shouldn’t waste the 60$ and stress for something that barely benfits you (lest you score higher on either section)

@@seanemmett8949 my son never once studied never. Nope wouldn't do it. He wasn't even going to take it. I made him. 1460. I'm like are you serious? Yes, indeed he did. I'm like can you imagine if you actually studied.?! 🤔 I'm like take it again. Actually apply a little studying skill sharpen it up. He won't do it. He didn't want to do it in the first place.

Hi Brooke! I've been watching your videos for a while and was able to score a 1560 as a junior! My subscores are both 780, which is causing me a dilemma because I want to go into engineering/CS. My total score is at the 75th percentile or higher for almost every school I'm applying to, but my math is at the lower end for my intended major some places. Should I retake to get a 790 or 800 or will it not make much difference?

I would think it would be more beneficial to put energy elsewhere. Such as more advanced classes past calc bc. Probably would stand out more than the 20 points on the math section. Congrats though!

My son didn't study not once. 1460. Good job. I knew he would do well. If I could just get him to wash dishes well. Maybe he'll learn whenever he's washing his own dishes. Hahahaha 😆 Seriously MIT. I really want him to study and apply himself. If he just applied himself. 💀

How important is the context of your SAT score? I have a 1350, currently projected to get a 1430 based off practice tests I’ve taken, and that is probably the second highest score of anyone in my class. Is that score with that context good enough for schools like Oberlin or CWRU?

1430 is good enough to have a reasonable shot at those two as long as the rest of your application is up to standards.

One caveat here is you’re social-economic status. Also, that’s score should be good enough for those schools!

A quick and easy way is to check their Common Data Sets, where they should report their 25-75th percentile test scores.

@Donda 3 that’s not true at all; they test on very similar skill sets, and are very comparable, especially for the purposes of colleges! A 34 act is about a 1430 sat, which is really good

That’s not true at alll. Respectfully, a 34 is converted to a 1490-1530 SAT.

They tend to be super scores - but depends on college. If official policy is superstore this will be a superscore if not this may be a single sitting

Not great not horrible. If you want to study and get it up to the 1300 range it would help you a lot!

It is all relative to where you want to go. If you are aiming for schools with higher averages, study hard and try again - I am pretty confident you will do better on your next test. Good luck!

I’m an IBDP student, and I got predicted a 40 which I don’t think it’s the strongest score. But my SAT score is at a 1580 which is considered pretty high. How much would a 1490 (700 English, 790 Math) hurt an intended neuroscience major? I’m worried my English score will be too low but know that some schools take your Math score more seriously if you’re going into stem. I am retaking it in August and think I can get to 720+ English, but I’m not sure beyond that. I’m planning on applying ED to Columbia too and only have 2 ap scores (both 5’s) because my school really only lets us take them junior and senior year and they’re very limited junior year-I’ll still have most rigorous on my transcript because of honors courses, though-but I’m worried my chances would drop significantly if I don’t submit. Any thoughts?

Khan academy is the best, i practice from it for the august sat and you can schedule when to practice and stuff accordingly to the dates. Also, i have heard from numerous amt of ppl practice on khan academy that much so the questions start repeating.

I would like to enroll my daughter for both SAT English and SAT Maths. And what does College Essays Course mean exactly,is there a separate training for the essays we write to colleges about our individual self? I thought that's more of individual ideas and not what they get in typical,but I can be wrong. I would like some help for her Prep. Thank you.

Hi -- the college essay course is a workshop. Each week we cover principles of good writing and how to approach each step in the process of writing the essay, just as an English teacher would when teaching persuasive writing etc. I assign brainstorming exercises, then 1st draft of a personal statement, then 2nd draft. We workshop individual student work in class as representative examples and discuss principles of revision and improvement-- what kinds of material/sentences/etc. work, how to develop ideas more deeply, how to improve overall. I give limited written notes on students' work between the deadline and the class meetings. Students do not have to send in their essays (i.e. if they are too personal they can keep them to themselves) but about 1/2 of students send them in. If you want private essay coaching after the course concludes we also have coaches with experience in that as well to help refine your work.

Yes, that is talking about the individual essays we write about ourselves. Although those essays are meant to be specific to us, there are definitely a lot of tips and guidance points that can be useful in understanding WHAT the colleges are looking for. Also, if you enroll in the regular SAT, it will test on both English and math! Hope this helps :)

It's hilarious watching Brooke read off the schools with 1000-1200 SAT scores. It's obvious she has no idea who these schools are. If you scored 1000 on your SAT, you're not submitting them to any decent school.
