Hey Matt, I suggest the r7 as a step to either. Sounds weird going for a 700cc over a 600cc but it's a much more relaxed ride however if you are experienced and capable enough then the r6 is an amazing and fun ride. Ride safe bud

@OlancerZ
@OlancerZ 3 жыл бұрын
I'm siding with Bruce on this one. Snag up a 600. The jump you will have from a 600 to a 1000 is about the same as a 250 to 600. My R6 was awesome, but it does get a little old because it was to easy to ride. Meaning, it was no work to go fast and hold corners. Youll have way more power in the road than you'll need. You'll hang with any sports car out there.
@JT2JZ

The market pricing is odd for sure. I think the 600s are just more popular for most people and that drives used prices up. A gsxr750 is a solid option for sure. I have an 02 R1 with a D&D slip on exhaust, power Comander, slipper clutch, lowering kit, I bought it 2nd hand so I don't remember all the specific upgrades but it is insanely fast. My buddy has an 03 R6 same type of upgrades we've swapped bikes on rides and in city riding the R6 is better to ride because the R1 just wants to go. In first gear with no throttle the R1 idles at about 25mph the R6 dosen't really have any power till you get past 4000rpms. On the highway the R1 is king it has insane tourqe and speed at low RPMS you don't have to hammer on the R1 the power is there through out the rpm range. Handling I haven't noticed that big of a difference in handling maybe because my suspension isn't stock. The only problem I had with my R1 is cross winds on the highway I was getting blown all over the road, but the rear tire was at 25psi I put at 35psi no more floating in the crosswinds. My only complaint with both the R6 and R1 is they are not comfortable on long rides. My Ninja 500r way more comfortable on long rides and my ZX6R (636) is extremely comfortable and I think it's faster then the R6. The R1 has low beams on both sides and highbeams on both sides. As far as ignition replacement you can get an ignition, Gas tank lock and seat lock on Ebay for under $60 for the R6 or the R1. My R1 came with a plain steel key. I bought a 3pack of blank yamaha keys red, blue, and black on Amazon for like $20 and had HomeDepot cut me a spare.

Seat comfort for the passenger is very similar between the two bikes. As the driver I enjoy doubling on the r1 more. The seat height is lower and longer wheel base makes it feel more stable with two people. The low end torque is also nice for the extra body weight

Question. I currently ride a Honda crf450r and I’m planning on switching to a street. I’m currently looking at the r6 but I’m wondering If I’ll get bored quick since it’s just a couple cc up from a 450. Should I just go with an r1?
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 3 жыл бұрын
Dirt bikes and street bikes are a lot different. Your 450 has a ton of torque and relatively short gears. Both the r6 and the R1 have really long gears and make most of there power up top. I think you could handle either bike relatively easy if you are comfortable on a 450 but it would come down to what’s more important for you. If it’s power obviously get the R1. If you want a better handling bike get the r6. I personally prefer the power but I still enjoy every time I get on a 600cc rocket. I don’t think I would ever get bored with either of these bikes. You just end up riding them slightly different that’s all.

Sorry to hear about the bad news. As long as you have respect for the bike and start off slow to get the feel for the bike you should be ok. My first bike was a 2004 cbr1000rr. It took me almost a full season of just casually riding before I was 100% comfortable on it. If you ride with other people make sure they don’t push you out of your comfort zone. Some people can push you past your skill level and that’s when an accident will usually happen for a new rider. At the end of the day make sure you enjoy the ride and have fun 🤘

When you were talking about the r6 you said "almost perfect sound" I'm looking super intensly for the perfect deep sound with the just perfect tune, any recommendations?
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 3 жыл бұрын
For a good sounding r6 the mid pipe / cat delete is a must. I did the M4 mid pipe but other brands would be very similar. As far as the rear slip ons go they all have slightly different exhaust notes. My favourite sounding slip ons would be the M4, yoshimura, or two brothers. A bigger front header pipe to give your bike a true full exhaust would give the deepest sound possible. Only down side is headers are pretty expensive!

@@JT2JZ Superbike racer has a full akroprvic exhaust on his colorful r6 and honestly it sounds so amazing like when he let's go of the throttle and then gives it gas you have the rumble and gives me such satisfaction but it's not deep like one if the comments even said it sounds like a house fly, I'm on a hunt to find "the motorcycle sound" the same sound I remember as a kid, the same sound I hear when bikes are flying by a few blocks away from me, I'm still looking but you definitely helped, thankyou. I also don't know why i never thought to cat delete my bike it never even came to me but would forsure make it sound better
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 3 жыл бұрын
Akrapovic is a great brand as well. Honestly most of todays modern exhaust systems perform great. It just comes down to personal preference with small sound differences. In your case if you already have a slip on I would say start with the mid pipe and you might be surprised at how big of a difference just that will make. My only other advice would be don’t use a straight pipe style rear slip on. They sound really raspy and you end up loosing power. As long as you have some kind of small slip on muffler you should be good to go after the mid pipe install 🤘

It’s always hard to say without seeing a bike in person but that sounds like a reasonable deal. I’ve owned many r6 bikes and have never had any major issues with any of them. The power commanders are a pretty easy plug and play system for the most part. It would be pretty hard to mess up that install. I believe there is only one wire that’s a throttle input that’s not plug and play I think it would either work or not work so you should be good to go there. I’ve never had any issues with the old power commander 3 or the new 5 series.

I’m in current negotiations with a guy that is selling his Yamaha R6 2008 with 15,000 miles on it for $5500. The bike has been taken care of from what I can see and it still has the original fairings and mechanics. Only things modified are the exhaust, HID lights, levers, etc. Anyways my question is, would that be a good buy for year 2021 or is that a bad choice? I do think the price is too steep and I offered $4500 cash in the spot for it (which he is thinking about). What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for the reply.
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 3 жыл бұрын
Where I live the market for the R6 seems to be inflated because they are a very popular bike. For me here in Canada it would be hard to find an R6 in decent shape for less than $5500. I’m not sure what your market is like but I would think if you can pick that bike up for $5000 it would be a pretty reasonable price.

@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 3 жыл бұрын
My 2009 R6 has 25000kms. So very similar in mileage. I would say that’s average for the year. If it’s a bike you plan to keep for a while I wouldn’t be to worried about it but I do notice the resale value of these bikes starts to drop a decent amount after 30,000kms - 35,000kms. At 15000 miles I would look at your basic wear and tear items like tires, brakes, chain and sprocket, fork seals. Other than those items I’ve never seen any other issues with these bikes. They are very reliable.
@1ofdrsfinest
@1ofdrsfinest 3 жыл бұрын
@@JT2JZ cool. I’ll definitely check those basic wear and tears. Replacing forks is pricey as shit. Don’t want to have to do that. If I end up buying the bike I was going to do the usual tune up, new fluids, new spark plugs, probably will end up buying a new gold chain to match the black and gold color scheme of the bike, some new brake pads and possibly new tires. Hopefully that’s all in need to do. Even better I hope I don’t have to do anything at all to it lol. Anyways thank you. I will come back for any advice or help if I need any. God bless!

I agree that is pretty strange. To be honest though the security systems are pretty much useless anyway. I have had multiple bikes stolen even with the security systems. It seems like they only cause issues and hassle for the owner and don’t actually do anything when someone steals the bike. The security doesn’t have an alarm or anything it only makes it so the thief can’t get it running. It’s always been a Yamaha quirk. Yamaha uses chipped keys and the Red key the bike comes with when new is the master key. It’s linked to the bikes immobilizer / ignition system. You need the original red key to complete the learn process in programming a new chip key. It’s always been a money grab in my opinion. If you lose the original red key you will need to buy a complete new ignition that comes with a new linked red key and that’s big money $$$ If you just want to buy a spare generic black key and still have the original red key to complete programming it will work.

R1's 180hp are way more fun and you can use only 110 if you like. So, would you buy an 110hp better for track or an 180hp 1:1 power to weigh ratio R1?? And yes, if you are not an expert rider just keep it calm with those 180hp. Don't use them all. Use only half... R1 will definitely keep your adrenaline in the red zone always!! R6... just for the first month when you learn it...

I’ve always been a horse power junky so for me the R1 is the obvious choice. I will admit the R6 does handle better but on the street I find myself using the raw power more than I would use the handling characteristics.

@@JT2JZ since last year I thought my Evo and my XKR and my Vette were fast. Nope... They are not fast enough now cz of my R1. Could be any litre bike... And yes.... I'm on Time Attack races with cars but on bike I'm really scared and hats off to all those fast bikers I watch...

The R1 is literally a street legal MotoGP bike when you get them unrestricted. The R6 is the chilled out little brother that gets fist bumped by its older brothers friends lol

R6 has a higher pitched sound. R1 is a lower frequency. R1 is likely a bit louder but not by a lot.
