I'm Filipina married to a Japanese guy and it was a huge shocker to me at first when he told me my crooked teeth made me look cute/attractive even though I was dying to pay for dental work to straighten it. Since he liked my crooked teeth, I didn't push through getting braces to straighten my teeth. Plus I noticed it's my natural double eyelids that made him attracted to me from the first time we met even though my eyes are considered just typical for Filipina.

I pointed this out to him a few years ago and gave him tips on his style which I think he actually implemented. For example, I told him to wear his hair less sleek and more ruffled because it suited him more (which he now does), I told him to stop wearing white because it makes him look ill and to instead wear ivory or cream (which he now does), told him to ditch the glasses because it covers up his good bone structure, and told him to focus on colours like navy instead of black. It's good to see him focussing on what looks good on him instead of following what the general style is for Japanese men. He's a good-looking guy and it's a shame that he was called ugly just because he didn't know how to style himself properly.

Yes, facial symmetry is subconsciously perceived as being indicative of good genes.
@credman
@credman 2 жыл бұрын
There's ugly people with symmetrical faces (Danny Devito) and models with asymmetrical faces (Shannen Doherty). It's proximity to the perfect mean face that defines beauty, symmetry is just one of many factors that result in a face that's closer to the golden mean. (The face that you get by averaging all faces together.)
@svenhaheim
@svenhaheim 2 жыл бұрын
@@credman Danny devito is an old short fat man, suggest you check out pictures of him when he was young. Shannon was a sex symbol when she was young... even Brad Pitt is going to end up less attractive if he gets old enough.
@commentarytalk1446
@commentarytalk1446 2 жыл бұрын
@@credman Symmetry and various other factors all interplay: In Men testosterone levels indicate strong brow and chin and thus are masculine and attractive WITH symmetry. in Women Oestrogen and collagen and proportions of curves indicate good hormone balances thus high fertility. In BOTH cases the indications are good immune system AND good nervous system. These are all positive towards sexual attractiveness and beauty. However mental interaction and behaviour are very important too - but excluding those and only commenting on physical. There is some cultural attribution to tastes eg attractiveness of breast size and many many other features can varying simply due to culture and locality tastes that establish. Again smell (body odour) is "surprising" important because it is associated with immune system compatibility. The mean of human faces is a statistic it's not descriptive of the above thus it's misleading to say the average mean of faces is the pinnacle or some such of beauty standards. Back to Japan: I think the women do an amazing job of demonstrating feminine beauty via feminine behaviour and strong beauty aesthetics in their dressing without necessarily having high levels of the above association of physical ostroegen creating curves and fertility indications eg they tend to have narrower hips for one example. So it really goes to show how flexible the subject is. Though atst: Tall, Salary, Status it shows similarities too across human groups (racial groups).
@lemons2300
@lemons2300 2 жыл бұрын
@@credman It seems many people are mistaking the general idea of asymmetrical face with what would draw closer to a facial deformity. Many celebrities have naturally uneven eyelids, and uneven styling to give it a more dynamic feel to a person. To me, those with perfectly Photoshop-like symmetrical faces often appear as they have no soul, or something.

As a westerner who used to live in Japan, when I dated a japanese woman I had very casual clothing on me, a simple t-shirt + jeans, very normal and casual-stylish in the west. She on the other hand were extremely up dressed, however - because I was a gaijin she thought that it actually suited me and looked very handsome, but for some reason she wouldn't think that it would look appropriate on japanese men, so you're right that foreigners in japan doesn't have to care so much about the japanese beauty standard, because we foreigners come from other cultures with it's own charm

Great Video again Nobita, to be honest l have no expectations when l come to Japan in terms of love and attractions based on cuteness, for me that is all superficial. It's about being able to connect on a higher level. You can feel an attraction to a person its sort of magnetic. Looks are important but like they say "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." I found after a few days that I first arrived that I switched to a full suit and tie clean-shaven and short hair. Only on Sunday did I relax on what clothing to wear. At least a few times in the last two decades I've pondered this question. Some cultures are very clear cut when it comes to beauty and attraction but Japanese people I've met, mostly tourists or JASDF on base, have varied opinions. Edit: Just got to 3:43 and this explains a lot of my personal experience. Japanese women young and old would often gather around me at work to take photos, if they were bold enough to do so. These were my late teens and the description here matches my stupid boyband appearance back then >_< Clueless and shy kid, wishing I could go back and appreciate how lucky I was. Don't take your youth for granted!

I'm from the 🇺🇸 and men's standards are be tall, muscular, make money. Here at home I feel like I'm your average dude. Been to Japan 3 times and everytime was an eye opener when it came to interactions with people. I used to be bigger than my current picture and most interactions where just stares or the off comment of me being big or macho which I didn't mind but I certainly didn't feel big. Then there's been the negative comments people made when they thought I didn't understand any Japanese. Things like being compared to a gorilla while at the zoo or people saying things like why would I want to look like this, Or them thinking I probably got mad easy, short tempered or being afraid I'd put hands on a woman. Anyways the good outweighed the bad and I'll be back after covid. Guess I'm the complete opposite of what Japanese girls find attractive 😆. Thanks for reading my rant, have a good day ✌

Law Of Attraction Then? As Long As You Find Out And Love Yourself, Then Eventually You Will Resonate The Same Partner On Who You Are To Yourself. So Yeahh The Luck You Are Considering Is Engaging To Know If The Partner You Are Looking For Radiates The Same Values And Interests As You. Sure, Physical Attractiveness Can Matter Too But In A Long Run, The Way How Does Your Personality Match Up With That Person. Because Its More Engaging To Have A Partnership With Someone Whom Has A Cute And Warming Personality Yet Average Lookinh Than Someone Whom Is Considered Super Beautiful Yet Too Dull To Talk With.

Like many things it’s about balance. It’s good to have pride in your appearance and have a standard but not to the point of obsession, and everyone has their own preference. Kid adoption? A Japanese friend of mine had trouble getting pregnant. She had been doing a painful fertility treatment for years but it had failed. Once, I asked her if she would adopt if eventually she couldn't have biological kids. She replied no, it had to her biological child. If she wasn't able, she'd volunteer for a dog shelter. That was a very strange answer to me. I didn't pry furthermore. A year later she was pregnant with her first child, at about 40.

Hey Nobita, I've been following you for a while and I found this video particularly interesting. I doubt you'll read this comment, but if on the off chance you do I have a question. You mentioned that feminine looking guys tend to be more popular in Japan, and that stereotypically masculine guys that are tall with large muscles aren't considered as attractive. I'm curious to what degree that's a modern phenomenon? I know that the writer Yukio Mishima highly romanticized traditional masculinity and looked at it as the ideal standard of beauty for men. I can imagine that war time Japan probably also had very different standards for men, since during that time society most valued men that could fight in battle.
@dDoodle788
@dDoodle788 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that, I haven't read anything by yukio Mishima but , wouldn't it be possible that the extent of what he considers manly is different than what let's say, an American would consider manly? for example a manly man in America could be like super tall and super muscular like a body builder, in Japan a manly man may still be a muscular man but maybe with a slimmer physique , strong but more lithe and agile. Personally I'm speaking from an Italian prospective, where the ideal male ideal, while similar to that of America, is slightly different, think like a greek or Roman statue, still "muscular" and "manly" but definitely not as much as a body builder, also Italian on average are shorter than Americans so, some considered tall in Italy might just be average in America. Maybe in Mashima could have been referring to a Japanese standard of manliness.
