Haywood Nelson was the first black teen idol on broadcast TV. My 12 year old eyes loved him. I had a major crush! He was on Right On! Magazine all the time. Great memories!

In 1977 Dee Spencer was almost killed in a car crash. Her stepfather died when he protected her from being injured. She eventually became a veterinarian.

I was 13 and loved this show, it was funny but it dealt with a lot of issues that many of us have, bills, rent, divorce, loved Dee's attitude, I always respect anybody that doesn't take crap from anyone.

I remember watching this in the very late 80s and early 90s when I was VERY young. Daytime tv reruns. They would play this, and then C.O.P.S- a cartoon about cybernetic cops with super abilities.

Daaang, this brings back memories. I remember the fashions, the hairstyles, the lingo, the dances . . . I was in Jr. High when this show premiered. Locking was everything! We used to have locking competitions at school. We called them “Lock Outs”. 😂 I’m from L.A., of course, where locking and popping originated. 😊

That was one of my favorite early episodes lol! Everyone thinking that Dee was feeling depressed and stressed out, treating her so nice, when it was her friend Robin! Dee really had some great lines early on but I could tell by the time the mom left the show she was losing interest.

This show was one of my favorites, but little DD was the icing on the cake. I remember she was in a car wreck and she was off of the show for a while, but when she came back she was a grown woman, and everybody was saying she was fine, good old days.

She didn't come back a grown woman lol. You must be thinking of the sequel to this show called What's Happening Now. She came back from the accident in 1978 wearing bangs because of forehead scarring and was on that season of What's Happening.
