What’s HER NAME? - 1st Night In The NEW VAN

#pearlthecv20 - Our first trip in the new S&L Apollo takes us to a site we’ve visited previously, Donington Park Farm Caravan Park in Derbyshire. This was just a one night stay to try out the new van, however the great thing about this site is check in is from 9am so you get a full day and night for your money. We visited on November 4th 2023 and paid £29.50 with electric, join us as we see planes, watch it rain and amble out for some light refreshments (beer).
Hi We're Rick, Heather & our dog Poppy and we travel the U.K in our S&L Apollo camper van “Athena”
We film the places we visit as our own diary, these videos are meant as a little memento for us but we're happy to share them with you if you want to watch.
We're just an ordinary couple in our 50's filming our adventures with basic equipment so don't expect loads of flash camera action and super editing with great music.
We also film videos of work we have done on our van as well as van reviews for our reference of the next van we might buy. Occasionally there are hints & tips videos too. We do basic site and area reviews including if they’re dog friendly but they’re a guide only based on our opinions which may or may not help you make an informed decision on if you’d like the place.
We do a mix of off grid camping, pub stopovers plus real campsites too, hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!

Brilliant Name for the van, totally agree its mean and moody, were the alloys and tyres a option selected by the previous owner or as standard?

Love her name Athena, it looks like a nice campsite. No fireworks,I’ll have to remember this one as my Coco is terrified of fireworks. The planes wouldn’t really bother us as we live in Burton upon Trent and they go over our house all the time. Thanks guys. I really don’t envy you having to do jury duty. Have a wonderful Christmas. 🤶🎅🎁🍺🎄

Looks a nice little village pub stopover. I like aircraft but wouldn’t want to sleep next to them. Safe travels in Athena. 🚐

We ended up staying there last week after our 1st choice was flooded and 2nd full! Planes didn’t bother us too much, far better than fireworks 🐶

Lovely looking van in a great colour. I really like your wheel and tyre combo so if I’ve still got our CV20 when I’m due new tyres I’ll upgrade the wheels and tyres👍

I would love that site as an avid plane watcher (H). Will have to remember the name.😊 agree it’s a it pricey for a shower and I’d defo need more than one token, 5 minutes would not be enough (H-again 😂) love the name Athena, but do we get new intro music as well now 🤔. Best wishes H&M. 😀xx

Mmm not sure on the new intro maybe 🤔 I’m trying to keep a little bit of familiarity for the moment….. you’d definitely like the site if you like planes, there’s some big DHL cargo ones too but I missed filming them. Cheers for watching appreciate it 🙏

Great name 🙂 Campsite looks bloody rammed , glad you found a good pitch 🙂 Brilliant time to check in though, way better than 1pm earliest. I fancy going to the lake district where the jet fighters fly, would love to film that, be bloody awesome, not sure Tyler would like it though. Great name, I would have gone for Goose. Pub looked good, I used to love staying at Tatton Park Classic car shows and always thought the plane noise added something to the atmosphere especially when day visitors had gone. Looked a good site and suspect if they charged £15 a night in winter they would be full in winter rather than empty. Cheers K.

We looked at bigger campervans, realised the logistical downfall of them and never bothered. We got a lwb transporter sized van and had it professionally converted. We have now bought a 7.5 metre fixed bed, 4 berth caravan, as well. The combination works wonderfully well. We now tow the caravan with the campervan, when we want more space and the campervan on it's own when we don't. The combination gives flexibility and we are never stuck on the camp site, not being able to park at attractions, go through Mc Donalds, small car parks or even going for shopping, like with a larger van, or have to pack up just to fill or empty the fixed water and waste tanks, then have to set up again.

We’re all different and that’s why the perfect van doesn’t exist and everyone keeps changing 🤣 we’re loving the extra 37 cm internally and it doesn’t really make any difference to us parking wise 😊

Lovely looking van but I am am a little disappointed I invited you several weeks ago to buy me a van for Xmas but you said you'd bought me socks, that's OK but it's getting late and they haven't arrived yet ?.!but I do love the CRAPPY jokes they make me realy laugh please enjoy the van and we may meet out and about you can give me my socks then❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂

The wheels are MSW not sure of the style they were already on, the plane thing is called flight radar 24 . com used via the website rather than an app. 👍

Do you get much road noise from the tyres i put cross climate on my Van thay are very good

The road noise is evident on certain types of tarmac but nothing intrusive mpg suffers slightly too but they look good so….. 🤣

A bit of a cheek charging for the showers when it cost that much for the pitch, I'd expect that on a cheep site.

Yeah I suppose, although getting on at 9am is a huge bonus though. Seems a lot of sites keep adding charges these days!
