What's in My Ham Radio Go Bag? Icom IC-705 in LC-192 Backpack (Portable HAM Radio, Portable Amateur Radio, HF Portable) with Wi-Fi Remote Control, Laptop, Digital Modes, Satellite Tracking and more
Here is a demonstration of my Portable Ops HAM Radio / Amateur Radio Laptop (Chromebook) with Linux Mint installed and working in conjunction with an Icom IC-705 and Remote Control via Wi-Fi. It includes a range of HAM Radio / Amateur Radio applications for digital modes and satellite tracking including: FLDigi, JS8CALL, WSJTX, Gpredict, Winlink, AX.25 Packet, Conky, Direwolf, Ardop.

The Icom back pack is too small for my ideal 705/ f-loop set-up. I want to include a 12v 12 ah Bioenno battery, controller and a 28 Watt (x2) solar panel. .I have a very old (1990's) Camelbak backpack that just might work. the Pack is made of 1000 denier Nylon and strong as hell.

My 705 has everything that you want in the LC192 pack. I will show you how minus one of the extra 28 watt..... my channel is kk4YDR ham radio.... I have virtual no subs because I never do anything with it but I think I might just start because it will help reinvigorate the interest of the hobby to all kinds of people.

Thanks for this video. I've just sat my Amateur radio license here in Australia (expect to actually get my license in the next few weeks) and I have pretty much decided on the IC-705 as my first rig, since my license will be limited to 10WPEP and I am interested in portable operation. So this video is really timely for me. And your description has answered one question I have not been able to work out from the PDF manuals/brochures - can the 705 do AX25? Yes it can. Happy to see you have some other 705/portable related videos too and really happy to see your linux/HAM videos - my day job is Linux, so I epxect to be doing a bit of this myself. Thanks heaps.

Hi, congrats on obtaining your licence! Yes, the IC-705 can be used for AX.25 with Software Modem such as Direwolf. If you connect via a USB cable, then it works fine.

ICOM is nuts if they think that their backpack is worth the MSRP (or anywhere near it).

Thanks for the video.What is the make and model of the external battery with the cigarette lighter adapter is called? How long you can use it for 10w output?

Hi, it's a RoyPow C86. I've not had a chance to fully test it in the field yet, so far have only been using it to run a few tests. Not sure what operating time you could expect at 10W as I usually only operate at 5W portable. I am using it more as a reservoir to top up the internal battery and charge other equipment.
