Great discussion. Kudos to Vanessa for giving her daughter such an interesting childhood. Imagine starting out life by becoming trilingual and then being able to travel off the beaten path throughout so many different cultures.

Ive been to 20+ places in Mexico and Queretaro definitely stands out for quality of life. Tourists aren't missing much by not going there but as a medium term base it has a lot of what is good about Mexico and less of what is bad. A medium sized city with a beautiful and lively center and good infrastructure by Mexican standards. It feels relatively safe and overall its quite a friendly city. It's the place I would most recommend to someone wanting to live and work in a Mexican city.

Thank you for this informative interview with Vanessa. I have been to Cancun and have been streaming on line for 2 months trying to figure out where to live in Mexico. I see all these blogs but never really heard about someone talking about schools for kids, plus I am Haitian with a Canadian daughter so it was relieving to hear about a French school there. I plan to initiate my TR papers here in CA and hopefully get to check the French school out once I get to Mexico. Thanks again.

I looooove Mexico City, but yes, the earthquake issue is concerning. I lived in Los Angeles for years and do not miss worrying about quakes. There are SO many wonderful cities/towns in Mexico to live in....I'm overwhelmed! That is a good problem to have though.

Querétaro is NOT on any fault lines. That's why it grew so quickly after the earthquake in DF in '85. There was a massive influx of Chilangos. This wasn't a bad thing in itself, but Querétaro does NOT stop growing.

Watched a few videos on your channel, learning about general process and questions, but this is the first time I've seen someone mention the same city as me - SC. Small world. For others wanting temp residency in South / lower East Coast... I went to the consulate in Orlando and just printed off a digitally stamped sheet from a freelance platform (Upwork) that showed a signature of 12 month income totals and handed it to them in conjunction with my invoices for clients. Had my other documents like identification etc of course. But in terms of solvency proof that was all I used. It was accepted and I got my residency. Granted I'm not sure if they were more lenient because I also had my bank statements (not apostilled / stamped as she mentioned) showing suitable balances / deposits. But they didn't really even glance at them beyond balance of take them back behind counter. Just the stamped sheet I printed out and invoices. Orlando was, in my opinion, very easy going. I honestly had no clue what I was doing when I showed up. Walked me through everything. I did this about four or five months ago for reference. Still haven't done the canje process. I'll have to do that soon before the stamp I got expires lol. For that part I guess Cancun / PDC is the easiest entry point. Been putting it off because of COVID craziness and being unsure how things are abroad.

It would be SUPER helpful when referencing terms in Spanish - to have the word(s) printed on the screen...it was very hard to understand what it is you need as an Expat when going about renting a home or apt. There were terms mentioned about what is needed when you don't have a Guarantor but again, I couldn't make out what was being communicated. Thank you.

Love to hear the cocks (roosters in the US) crowing. It's a fallacy they do it at sunrise. They crow ALL night long, and if you ever have trouble sleeping, you'll know what I mean!
