I picked up some fig trees from Mr. Dalton Durio in Opelousas, Louisiana. He pronounces the name of the LSU Hollier fig as "O-lee-A" or "Ol-yay." He is pure Cajun French. I can say, that when they are nearly over ripe the flavor is outstanding. Hope this helps.

Yeah I’ve seen interviews of Dr. Larry hollier and he says o lee a also. It’s also weird how he goes by Scott. LSU was proud of I’m naming figs in his honor

JUST got my LSU Scott's Black delivered from One Green World Nurseries......it's young (1 gallon) with 2 branches, but has an abundance of leaves for a lil guy ✨😃. Glad to hear I picked one of the top 5. Can't wait for next year already to see how it does! thx Ross _ here's some text about Scotts' Black.... Scott’s Black Fig Tree! This is another excellent variety bred by Louisiana State University’s fig breeding program in the 1950’s and it is easily one of the most flavorful and delicious figs we’ve ever tasted, comparable to the best of the dark figs. Skin is dark purple to black with an intense red flesh. Figs ripen one main crop late in the season and require a fair amount of heat to ripen. This isn’t the most reliable one for Northwest gardeners but placement in the proper microclimate will reward you with at least decent crops of incredibly tasty figs. Otherwise a great choice for growers in California or the South.

Nice to hear LSU Purple tastes good. I bought one from a nursery last spring, but they kept pushing the shipment 3 times so far and after over a year I'm still waiting (now for a June shipment). I was about to cancel the order, but you convinced me I should give it a chance. Thanks.

Hi Ross I just rooted Scott’s Yellow, Black, Champagne and Improved Celeste. They seem to like the warm and humid weather we have in Alabama. Hopefully I can root LSU Tiger this winter. Brian is the man when it comes to the LSU Figs.

If your growing in a pot I believe it will always tend to split more than in the ground. It is depending on you for all its nutritional needs plus water. Its much harder for that plant to regulate its self. Depending on the weather and time of day it go from dire thirst to being drunk on excessive water. There is really no balance. So if it rains and figs are ripening its more likely for any pot grown tree to split figs than compared to a tree grown in ground.

Thanks Ross for the video! Do the LSU varieties do well in dry weather of san fransisco bay area? OR do they need humid weather of Louisiana state?
