Even as long ago as this is, I still can't quite believe Bert Convy is gone.

I like it when Arlene said that the Salvation Army is the best army in the world. It is active in 133 countries.

A What's My Line 1968-75 without Soupy Sales is legendary.

I understand Stapleton took a ship to England when she did The Little Foxes because she wouldn't fly. She should have won the Oscar for Airport. It was such a moving performance.

It's really 😎 to see Nipsey on any game show, the man's a legend as well as the late Scoey Mitchell. I'm not sure if Maureen and Jean are sisters but I'm reasonably certain they are
@gwenniegirl503 ай бұрын
No they were not related. In fact, Jean Stapleton was born Jean Murray.

It is unbelievable how fast time goes. I'm probably one of those curious to see how he would have done in the early 90s version of Match Game, which he hosted the pilot for. Unfortunately, his health problems started not too long before they were to start taping.

Taped on January 21, 1969.

If you do still want your fill of Match Game, up here in Canada there's a new version airing on The Comedy Network. The stakes aren't that high, but they're doing alright with it so far. Some episodes have been posted on KZfaq I believe.

I agree that Wally Bruner was the weakest of the three hosts, but I think that while John Daly was perfect for the Sunday-night show, Larry Blyden brought a certain informality to the daily show and besides that, his interest in the contestants and mystery guests was genuine. Bruner just seemed to be imitating Daly, I have had a crush on Joanna Barnes ever since she co-starred with Peter Falk on "Trials of O'Brien" in the '60s. I'm sure most people would agree that Dorothy Kilgallen was irreplaceable on "Line," but if anybody could have come close I think Joanna would have been it.

I notice that John always tried to side with the contestant. Wally seems to be trying to help the panel.

The last season of the CBS version was in color (1966-1967)
@mthivier3 ай бұрын
Yes, CBS began the process of switching their prime time shows to color during the 1965-66 season, with the last few shows that were still airing in b&w making the switch (at CBS' insistence) during 1966-67.

Arlene asked if the first woman was a nun. This was around the time that nuns began modernizing their habits. Today most nuns do not wear habits.

Yeah, I can definitely agree with you there. If anyone had to take Gene's place on MG, I would have definitely preferred Bert. It's a damn shame he had to die so young. Ross Shafer was a complete bust as host of MG 90. His on air feud with Vicki Lawrence really showed him up. I can't think of any veteran host who would have let things come to such a pass right on the air for all to see.

Regarding match game 90s, I had no problem with the host, however the panelists with the exception of Brad Garrett were the pits, not even Brett and Charles could save it

That’s impossible I don’t know how can it be syndicated,when CBS held the rights to that show.
@mwilliams13305 жыл бұрын
I could not find any info where CBS owned the rights. Goodson and Todman were the original production comany and Goodson bought the rights after Todman's death.
