Regarding the chord stack feature, I just don´t see how is it useful for anyone... If the goal was to help people with no knowledge of music theory to write chords, it won´t work since it is, in fact a note stack, and doesn´t really input the chords for you. If you know how to create chords, it could help to speed up your workflow but, as is, after stacking the notes you have to go and delete the notes that aren´t part of the chord you want, so once again, not really useful.

OMG Ivan i absolutely couldn't agree with you more man! They spent SO much energy on adding Mastering features and basically NOTHING to the MAIN workflow of the DAW - that 95% of us use ALL the time. In my mind, this is NOT what i'd call a productive update; and it's disappointing to think that this is all they worked on since the last update. I can think of SO many features i would like to see that have to do with midi editing/creation - like being able to have more than ONE Macro toolbar open at a time. It's gotta be about the workflow man, not parlor tricks (that don't actually work). Thx for your work Ivan, yer the best man!

Credit to you for being honest with this update. Some of the additions left me with the same questions. Not complaining or anything, but it's important that Presonus tweak elements like the strums for multiple chords and the chord paint weirdness, it's just scale snapping as you say. You're the first person I've seen highlight these oddities, despite them being immediately obvious.

Ivan, the chords stack feature works well here. Step 1: Select the Scale (e.g. letter "A"). Step 2: Tick the checkbox to the right of the small keyboard image. Step 3: Select "Major Triad" or "Minor Triad" from the scale type dropdown menu. In your video the selection was "Major"

I’m a music producer. Each update Presonus try to balance feature sets for all users. This one they focused on with this one is mastering engineers. They have not updated the project page in a long time. Personally their biggest releases will be features for music producers. Music Producers are the biggest customers now, and the ones selling the products for many companies.

Thanks for the video Ivan. I personally didn't enjoy this update, mostly because they keep adding new features when the software has a list of bugs waiting to be fixed. And in fact, they added a few features which are already broken and need to be fixed ..

Yea I wasn't a big fan either. My biggest gripe was with the Chord Stack because it felt a bit misleading. PreSonus is pretty good about listening to the consumer base so we'll have to wait and see.

eally good review of this plugin. I've been using this for a few days and so far I really like it. I have found it works best after I have mixed a song without it first as best as I can. At that point I bring in Abby Road 3 and cycle through the speaker options. This will make any imperfections in the mix stick out like a sore thumb, usually in the lower mids. Abby Road 3 can help take your mixes up a notch or two when you don't have state of the art equipment to work with.

I think I would have prefered they focused attention on and added more to the Chorder NoteFX features (and the rest of the NoteFX)

Macro--Music Edit--Create chords. Doesnt invert them but creates the 1.3.5

Man, they can just use that chord wheel as a menu for creating chords on the fly with a middle mouse click. It's already there so just throw it on the note editor Presonus! I mean how hard can it be to realise this?

I believe they put out this update due to the fact that update number 5.0 is also needed to use the ATOM sq properly. The thing that's really new is the so called Live Play on the starting page. Yesterday I started to use this feature but I still have to figure out how to use this properly. I experienced that LivePlay works seamless with the ATOM sq also. So I guess from update 5.0 and beyond the whole update game changer is related to buying yourself the hardware also. There was nothing wrong with the software engine that is running Studio One, so they must have thought "never change a winning team".

I've been using the project page a lot so the upgrades there were welcome. I haven't dived to deeply into the composing parts of the program so any improvement there will have to wait until i dive it to it. I wish that V5 was compatible with V4. It seems like Presonus wants to capture customers into upgrades and keep the churn going. it's still a great program though. So much to explore.

Forward compatibility, especially with regards to major version updates, is impractical. The changes between 4 and 5 are drastic. I doubt anyone would even be able to list a handful of DAW's that support forward compatibility with major release versions. I'm glad they keep their software on a two year release cycle and don't use other methods such as limiting upgrades based on OS version (Logic Pro), or using 12 month update/release cycles at a higher premium (Bitwig, Pro Tools, Cubase).

If they’re going to do anything they should update the chords and scales like the MPC software where It literally lets you pick what scale and what type of chords or note or whatever you want I’m pretty sure that Abelton even has a feature where you can pick which scale.Serato sample, arcade, they all kinda have some sort of similar feature… or just learn piano or guitar or whatever I

M Audio Oxygen Pro 25 is connected to my MPC software and my MPC studio. Can I map it my keyboard to both software or should I get Akai Mini keyboard for my MPC and just map my m audio to Studio one?

That’s so inefficient tho. At that point I’d rather just click the exact notes that I need into the piano roll. For beginners it might help a bit but you still gotta figure out what notes to delete if you don’t know chord structure.

yeah they really flopped on this update. Not sure if its rushed or what but I was not impressed. I was really hoping to switch to studio one but it looks like its just my second one. I think they are trying to focus on too many things between the mastering page, the show page, and the main page. Plus all the focus they are giving sphere. I just want more production features that work

The new feature you're showing is "Draw vertical stacks". It doesn't say that it's designed to draw chords. So you want it to be something else, but it's not. When you drag a MIDI file directly to the Chord Track, only the chord information is extracted, not the actual notes. So - again - you expect it to be something else, but it's not. Maybe the title of your video should be "New Production Features I would have liked to see in Studio One 5.5"

The Chord Stack was literally marketed as a feature to help you draw chords but that's not what it does. As for the Chord Track/MIDI stuff, I'm not expecting it to do anything, I was just giving my reasoning and an example as to why I wouldn't use that new feature. Thanks for watching!

You didn’t even mention automation or clip gain you didn’t mention anything about anything in the mastering section come on bro this is more of a diss video

I didn't mention anything regarding mastering because as I stated in the beginning of the video, I'm not a mastering engineer so I don't use those features. Clip gain isn't new and the only new automation update that I'm aware of was in mix scenes, which I covered. No diss. I love Studio One and PreSonus, this was just my assessment as a user.
