I feel for Matteo, he was in the process of building the first engine that was the most powerful on the grid and was told “his interpretation of the rules was wrong” and that he needed to make changes. The 2020 car was built around an engine that was supposed to make 200 more horsepower and therefore it had too much drag and inefficient downforce generation. When downforce was removed the stability went away. Horsepower gives you the opportunity to add grip through downforce without reduced speed. I have faith the 2021 car will be far better

For those who don't know, the burgundy red at the very rear end of the car is a nod to the red used during the first season of Formula One. It's a nice tribute to Ferrari's racing history. I love the livery, only thing that really bugs me is the green logo, however, it's likely not going to be on the car anyway in most races, so it'll really be a non-issue during the season. Fun PR stunt though. It got people talking - exactly what they wanted.

Why does no one mention that much of their rear end instability was largely due to excessive gearbox case (a stressed member) deflection? This made the rear suspension unstable and really bothered Seb. This was well documented on GP Confidential. It is also what Gunther likely meant when he said “we know what the problem is, but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

This and Lewis' consternation ahead of 3 days of preseason testing from tomorrow points to some uncertainties. The 2021 rules have meant some teams running low rake trying to create downforce on top of the rear floor. Some teams with aggressive front nose capes and winglets - Merc meanwhile reduced the size of their front nose cape. Three teams running inverted rear wishbones. Ferrari running a lower conventional rear wishbone with the rear of it shaped like a wing. Various versions of elaborate bargeboards. At least two teams with hidden underfloor designs. Ferrari with a swept back front suspension design. Four teams with Mercedes engines but all with different engine cover and airbox designs. And a new +500 gram Pirelli tyre. Only one weekend from tomorrow to sort it all. Someone has got all of this right. The rest will just be various versions of wrong answers.

I'm not sure why so many people are blaming the 2020 season on Ferrari engines. I find it unbelievably obvious where the problem lay. Grosjean had come out saying the Ferrari suspension would overheat and behave radically differently depending on that, making the rear downforce inconsistent and the rear generally behave poorly. We have seen Vettel, who strongly favours a consistent rear end, perform very poorly compared to his teammate. Whilst its possible HAAS had packaged their car poorly and produced such a massive difference in temperature between themselves and Ferrari, its incredibly unlikely for that extreme temperature difference to have happened. On top of that, we have seen teams with a poor engine still manage to outperform the mid field (ie Ferrari during 2019, Red Bull with Renault and early Honda). I'm not sure why quite so many people have been stating that its all down to the power, but for months now its felt frankly obvious that the suspension was to blame. Perhaps I'm missing something, my predictions of a suspension token spend seem to have been fairly accurate thus far. Hopefully they have solved the problem, but if not we can be sure the 2022 car will have.

There’s a lot of confusion, even among high up personnel as to what Ferrari were doing. One theory is they were running past the fuel flow sensor, but Haas and Alfa lost considerable time in 2020, and never had fuel inconsistencies in 2019. Another is oil leaking into the engine through the intercooler, but oil use was measured before and after all races, and was already monitored due to both Mercedes using this from 2014, and then Ferrari catching on and following suit a couple of years later. The last theory was an electrical advantage as Ferrari were the only manufacturer to split their battery pack into 2 smaller packages, and most teams couldn’t understand why they were doing this...

@@JakeM218 the deal tells me that Ferrari is guilty, but, we will never know what are the infringements that Ferrari is guilty of. The performance loss may have nothing to do about the deal, or the deal may be the sole reason of this loss, but, as almost everything in Formula 1, probably it is a factor among many others.
@JakeM218
@JakeM218 3 жыл бұрын
@@estradasvirtuais2105 It’s difficult. Mercedes were oil burning from 2014 onwards. Ferrari caught on, and copied after a couple of years, but Renault and Honda never used this “loophole”. The FIA never physically explored the engines to control this - they just stated “oil use must be a maximum of Xml per race”, and so Mercedes and Ferrari lost power moving forward. With the newest Ferrari issue, the FIA seized their engine, and physically dismantled it. Ferrari therefore didn’t want a public report, as it would then expose in full how they manage and run their power unit - one of the only things that remains hidden and private in F1. The official reason for not realising the report was that to do so would infringe on the intellectual property and copyright that Ferrari have over their power-unit.

@JakeM218
@JakeM218 3 жыл бұрын
@@estradasvirtuais2105 The FIA seems to like to hide things away, rather than make F1 seem improper. Racing Point were fined for having Mercedes technical data. Their defence was that they 3D scanned the car at a race with a camera - which was 100% legal, but Renault protested that they’d copied the inside of the rear brake ducts as this was never visible. This was found to be correct and shows corruption, and that technical drawings were given / sold from one team to another. Mercedes were never investigated over this and it was quickly hidden. Renault had an automatic brake bias adjustment that was an illegal driver aid. Other teams knew about this for almost a year before they decided to highlight this when it suited them. Max Verstappen used a racial slur on the radio, which led to the government of one country lodging a complain with the FIA, but they quickly dismissed this and let Red Bull deal with it. They don’t like ruining the image that F1 has as the most professional level of motorsport. They always try and cover things up, or hide them!
