It's crazy how they didn't even think it would be a big thing, and then it practically exploded in their faces. 😂 It's honestly too bad, though. They didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They definitely didn't predict how much people would love watching a monster torture little girls. I can't criticize, though, because I love the show, mainly the first few seasons because of the friendships between the girls and the mothers.

Sjors de Wit i think the producers know how to manipulate the moms to make them sign contracts and then the moms were trapped because it’s really hard (impossible?) to break a contract. And I think they didn’t imagine it would be such a big show, they did it for fun first. I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Let's also remember that probably at the time of the contract signing, they expected this show to be a documentary type show and not one of reality tv. It was only supposed to be 8 episodes long and suddenly they had to tack on two more episodes. Then everything snowballed from that. Remember, the show only paid each cast mom about $600 for the first season while the girls got nothing.

katy venus but GiaNina has been a comp dancer for years and competed outside of the ALDC despite being on broadway, same with Elliana when she was on Dancing With The Stars...the rules probably changed since Maddie was on the show or they made it up for drama 🤷‍♀️... also I’ve been to a Season 8 competition and they weren’t fake at all! They invited in real schools to compete with real judges and everything. The only thing fake about it was that they invited prestigious and very competitive schools in so the comps would be harder, and the fights were all scripted (producers told them what to say) but it was completely real! They seem to be way different from the past seasons probably to make it more dramatic because the producers love their drama. At least the episode I was at was a real competition...it was private so normal schools couldn’t get in but the scoring was real

It’s a combination between the number of hours you’re allowed to work professionally to not be considered a professional dancer, and the type of work you do professionally. Professional dancers can’t dance in amateur competitions. GiaNina would likely be covered, because she did singing and acting work not dancing work. Even if there was dancing in the work you’re back to the hours component and what they actually consider professional dancing work. If you’re not directly a broadway dancer you’re usually job wise considered a singer/actor > a dancer. ” It doesn’t matter how ridiculous that sounds that’s the legal justification. This would be a really great video, because it’s a lot of complex law. Each kid's specific work varies on legal justification of why they can still compete. Basically, when the kids take any jobs their parents have to constantly juggle all these legal components. It's probably also why the producers put the "we have to approve your work" clause in all the contracts, because if the kids take specific jobs they literally cannot dance in competitions. So for example when Maddie did the Sia video she was still allowed to dance, because her amount of professional dancing hours still wasn’t enough to be considered a professional dancer. Another example is if Maddie did the movie Book of Henry while she was still on the show it wouldn’t be considered dance work, because “she was acting in a movie that just coincidentally required her to dance” again it doesn’t matter how ridiculous that sounds that’s law.

My guess is that maddie wasn't allowed to work because of her contract, so they made up a rule (or exaggerated a rule that some dance comps might have) to conceal how restrictive the contracts are. On the other hand, if maddie's prospective role was entirely a dance-based part, it might be considered differently to gianina's part (Amanda thripp) which doesn't involve much dance and is more of an acting/singing character

i think this could also be a reason why Paige had to start a youtube channel. in the background, you can hear music produced by the same people that have a contract with lifetime. Since she was managed by someone listed in her description it is safe to assume she is getting a profit. This would mean that the music she is using wouldn't have been copyrighted so she would have had to work with lifetime or the A&E executive network. She also only did her youtube channel for 2 years with no explanation for quitting/stopping. In addition, these happen to be the years they were filming season 5 and 6.

They didn't. Chloe didn't want to compete anymore, and Clara didn't like dance enough, and neither of them were home enough to come to class consistently. At that studio, if you can't do that, you can't be on the competition team. They made exceptions for Chloe in 2015, but that was it. Dance Mechanics accommodated Clara's busy schedule and still let her compete. And this year she has quit dance and is on a swim team.

"Abby Lee Dance Company" was at first just the group of kids Abby coached and took to competitions - a group within the RDP studio. Before that, it was called the "Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio," and the wall facing the street has that in pink script painted on the outside of the building.

I was thinking this would be a good video idea! Personally, I think she preferred Maddie's dancing and therefore was more invested in her success. I think she loved them both the same, though. Off the show, you can tell how close all three of them are. As we know, the producers and editors can make innocent things seem terrible through manipulating the cast and sneaky editing. Honestly, I never liked Melissa much, though. I don't think she was supportive enough of either of her kids. She was way too hard on them, let Abby manipulate and mentally abuse them often without saying anything, and was rarely the first to comfort them. Often, other moms would have to step in and do the nurturing. I think she's a better mother off the show, though. All that aside, I do think Melissa loves her daughters equally. She definitely thinks Maddie is more talented, but as far as love goes, I do think it's equal.

Maddie reminded Melissa of her mother, and Melissa said that's why she would get so emotional when Maddie danced. I think that was the main thing :)
