This time around I spotlight an amazing and under appreciated fish, Thorichthys helleri the "turquoise firemouth".

I have six helleri's in a large aquarium with geophagus and angels and find them to be extremely aggressive with each other and the geo's. They don't bother the angels at all.

Hi! I have very recently bought a thorichthys maculipinnis male from a private breeder. It looks almost identical to your helleri, and the species also originates from Mexico. Should I keep it in the same conditions (temperature, hardness, etc)? Can I feed it small dried crustacians like daphnia and gammarus? I know people who personally catch gammarus in local rivers and dry it feed their fish and to sell it to other fishkeepers.

You gonna sell any?

Not at the moment, just not sure I want to dedicate tanks to raising up the fry. I got my fish as fry from Jeff Wrapps at www.tangledupincichlids.com so if you are looking for some I would recommend his stock.
