One other consideration is it depends on the locality. In my example, in America, Sierra Nevada is pretty ubiquitous. In Europe, Duval is more easily available and certainly easier on the wallet than imported Sierra pale ale. In the US, it's not particularly convenient to find Duvel, and the price is 3-5 x more expensive than European prices.

Allagash White is our family's go to. It's always in the fridge and it always damn good. Might have the best balance of real distinct flavor and "just goes down easy" of any beer I know. Another one for me is Guinness. Of course it's best (transcendently good) in Ireland, but it's surprisingly good out of the can and tastes right in any bar that keeps its tap lines clean. Whenever I'm not thrilled with the offerings in a bar, Guinness is my happy go to.

I really like that you metioned that Pilsner on tap (ideally from a tank) is worlds apart from the can. As a czech patriot and avid beer drinker I appreciated that. I feel like all pilsners really suffer when you keep them in a bottle or a can for longer than about a day, maybe even less. Totally unlike belgian beers that some purists insist on pouring from a bottle instead of a tap.

Great video chaps. I’d love to see you take it one step further and ask ‘what is the best modern core beer in the U.K.?’ There’s a few examples gaining almost godlike notoriety (like Deya’s SRM as you mentioned) and I’d be keen to hear your predictions for the “Punk IPA of tomorrow” (Northern Monk’s Faith, Verdant’s Headband, Siren’s Soundwave, Pressure Drop’s Pale Fire and Gipsy Hill’s Hepcat are a few others that spring to mind)

For me it's a definate yes on pilsner urquell but also I have a little bit of love for wild beer co pogo. Super zesty and easily available. Any fourpure core range are a great fridge filler. My best friend still doesn't get the drink better beer idea. He is really happy drinking cheap nasty macro beer but I keep getting him to try a hoppy lager for starters but still not convinced!! A well made core beer can really help a brewery make a great name for itself. That's when you can start to experiment a bit more because people want to see what you are going to do next.

Tiago from Portugal here! The Craft beer scene in Portugal is very young but it's growing strong and for me Dois Corvos is the best brewey and Matiné my core beer (the one I always like to have on my fridge and that you can find on a supermarket) it's a session IPA, with great drinkability, just the right amount of bitterness and great dryhop aroma. When we get back to "normality" you should really come to portugal, check out the scene here and the interesting experiences being done with our terroir. Let me know if you come! :)

Coopers Pale Ale. Its wayyy older than Sierra Nevada and Coopers is still an independent, family owned brewery. Its an Australian classic from South Australia and probably not that recognised worldwide but its big sibling the Coopers Sparkling Ale makes it into the BJCP. Its a unique Australian beer that's been the core product for 100 years! 🍻 And its fruity flavour from the yeast makes it a truly unique pale ale and at around 4.5% its a tasty crushable beast!

From a German perspective, Augustiner Helles, Franziskaner for a wheat beer and Sierra Nevada as pale Ale. If you're ever going back to munich you should try a Tilmans Helles (or any other of that brewery. They also have a little Bar where they serve it fresh. And you should also try any "Frau Gruber" Beer you can find. Riegele Brewery has one Pale Ale which is cooperation with sierra Nevada named "Bayrisch Ale 2" that is also amazing. Cheers

Definitely can get behind Augustiner Lager Hell as I was already supporting it for best beer in the world. A bit surprised Guiness didn´t get a mention. Another beer that came to mind was London Pride by Fullers. Might be too obvious if you´re from England, but it´s actually one of the few English Beers that you can get in a supermarket here in Switzerland. And for a lot of people outside of England (myself included) it has become the first introduction to traditional English Ales.

great list again guys! In this region i would have added Lucky Jack by Lervig to my list. And apart from the Augustiner Helles and (obviously) Allagash White, I can easily get my hands on the others on your list which is why this list is so universal. Could one consider the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier a core beer, I think so, and if so it's actually a beautiful beer too.. Hey Hi! You guys have checked the point on all the beers! I’m from Roma, Italy and I’m a huge fan of SRM, I think it’s the perfect pale and the perfect beer for flavour, drinkability, thirsty quenching etc. I’d like so much to fill my fridge with that but you know, it’s not easily available here. I buy it several times from foreign shops so I must put it outside my choice. Pilsner Urquell, lovely! Here you can find it only in 33cl bottle. The 500ml can would be better. Or a 500 bottle.. Some years ago Punk IPA took me into craft beer so yes I’m grateful, great beer but it’s so different now... Sierra Nevada Pale. I forgot it. Need a pack now ahah! Augustiner Helles it’s probably the best lager in the world. Never tried Allagash. If I must say what beers could be my core-beers easy to find for filling my fridge, these are: - Tropical Bomb, an old school, clean and craft Imperial IPA by Rebels brewery in Roma. Every beer shops here got one. - Ungespundet by Mahrs Brau or any other franconian kellers/märzen/pils. Quite findable.. - Orval. Market shelves. That’s it! Love the channel, keep on!

I think about this as more of a core 6-pack (I think it seems to close to the best beer in the world otherwise IMO). So here’s my core 6-pack right now (always subject to change): 1. Orval for its ability to change over time and always taste good. 2. Pilsner Urquell. The quintessential lager. 3. Allagash White. Mostly because I live in NE and can get it anytime (I know I’m privileged). 4. Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. For its complexity and crushability. I choose this over Sierra Nevada Pale Ale only because I find that their house yeast can dominate more of the flavor across many of their beers over the other ingredients. 5. Saison Dupont. Opened up the world of saison’s to me, and I can always come back to it. 6. Guinness Draught. I think there can be better local porters or stouts, but not many things hit the nostalgia button in me like a Guinness, and nitro just brings that creamy element that is just so unique. So much so that anytime I have anything on nitro I compare that feel to my experiences with Guinness.
