The Quest Headsets are pretty mainstream, especially 2 and 3. 2 sold more units than the xbox series X, original Xbox, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS Vita, Wii U etc. I would call that mainstream for gaming.

There's isn't really a reason to compete with them at the low end. As long as they're supporting PCVR, then PCVR is supported. There are a lot of people who buy Quest just for PCVR only. You only get pure PCVR headsets to address the high end when you want graduate from Quest 3, like the Bigscreen Beyond.

@@KriegersBeasts I own both Quest 3 and Beyond. I have done A-B comparisons between them for PCVR, and the Beyond is significantly sharper, smaller, lighter, and doesn't have latency. Also OLED blacks. What is your basis for claiming the Beyond is not an upgrade. Have you actually owned them both?
@SargonDragon
@SargonDragon 28 күн бұрын
Everyone wants to ignore the substantial remote streaming latency on Quest. You lose that latency when using a cabled DisplayPort headset. If you're not playing fast action games where your reaction time matters, then Quest is fine. But if reaction time matters, PSVR2 has an insurmountable advantage in the comparison. I own both Quest 3 and PSVR2. And I'd say the comparison between them is not simple. I wouldn't simply declare one the winner. It really depends on your use cases and what aspects you value more. The Quest 3 has better lenses, but the PSVR2 has better panels. I think most people will favor Quest 3 on that part of the comparison, but not everyone. The PSVR2's colors and contrast are much more vibrant. If we're talking PCVR only, my choice would be the PSVR2. For me, the latency on Quest is a no go. I play too many fast action games. And I have done A-B comparisons between Quest 3 and PCVR headsets like the Bigscreen Beyond, Index, and Pimax 8KX and Crystal... and the latency is apparent and meaningfully affects game play in fast action games. If you're considering gaming outside of PCVR though, Quest 3 clearly has more support than PSVR2 where Sony has been lukewarm in their support at best. And, as mentioned, Quest has wireless support, so for some users that's an insurmountable advantage. But also keep in mind this means there's a battery and limited run time. The X factor is what happens with eye tracking. This isn't officially being supported for PCVR on the PSVR2, but I think it's very likely to be supported through opensource. And that is huge for some use cases, particularly for flight simmers and VRChat users.

As someone who's owns both headsets I enjoy playing VR games on my PSVR2 more than my on my Quest 3 but I use my Quest 3 more as I use alot of Mixed Reality apps for fitness music production and content watching with the KZfaq app but in Mixed Reality and the KZfaq app does not have Mixed Reality on the PSVR2 so as a all round headset that does it all in terms of its ability to play Mixed Reality games and VR games the Quest 3 but if your only looking to just play VR games and nothing else then just get the PSVR2 as it's the most immersive VR Headset ever as the headset has rumble and with the adaptive triggers on the controllers it's top notch

@@MichaelM28It looks like Sony's PlayStation VR2 is not living up to the company's sales expectations just over a year after it first hit the market. Bloomberg reports that the PlayStation-maker has stopped producing new PSVR2 units as it tries to clear out a growing backlog of unsold inventory. Bloomberg cites "people familiar with [Sony's] plans" in reporting that PSVR2 sales have "slowed progressively" since its February 2023 launch. Sony has produced "well over 2 million" units of the headset, compared to what tracking firm IDC estimates as just 1.69 million unit shipments to retailers through the end of last year. The discrepancy has caused a "surplus of assembled devices... throughout Sony’s supply chain," according to Bloomberg's sources.

I own both and if you play standalone quest 3 the best you can with play with great visuals is Asgard’s Wrath 2 for a AAA experience. I played Star Wars immortal on the quest 3 standalone and at times it felts so PS2 and was so blurry. As the game plays out in dark settings it was incredibly difficult to see a damn thing. It ruined my experience of the game. When I play PS5 PSVR 2 no mater the setting games like horizon call of the mountain or dark like resident evil, there is a standard set that the PCVR always delivers. In bright games though the quest 3 beats it in clarity of the image not to be confused with details which the PSVR2 hands down wins. Along with Haptics and the headset rumble combined with the 3D audio headset and OLED for deep blacks the PSVR 2 has its place alongside the Quest 3. The new aliens VR game is coming out and there’s no way I’m not getting it on PSVR 2 to feel the haptics, 3D audio and OLED benefits. In regards to the Quest 3 I’m still building my PC and I’ve only tried Half Life Alyx on my older GTX970. That blew me away even with an old GPU. So when I get a new PC with an RTX4070 ti Super I will be able to give a fairer impression of the PCVR side. At the moment standalone Quest 3 vs PSVR 2 is no competition. PSVR 2 has a proper dedicated GPU and blows the Quest 3 out the water. It could all change when I have a proper set up.

Quest 3 for sure has better lenses but strictly for PCVR with the PSVR2 you will be getting a display port uncompressed image whereas Quest is compressed through usb. I also have both, and now the PC adapter for PSVR2 is out, I made my own comparison, and quest 3 wins for me, just because of the lenses. I'm wired on both to get the best out of the Quest3, i9, 4080 super, 90Hz on both, trying to get as apple to apple as possible. Sony did a great job with the PC adapter, the user experience/journey between PSVR2 and Quest3 on SteamVR is pretty much the same, get the app, launch it, headset on, and go (minus the bluetooth thing for PSVR2 controllers but no issue there for me worked straight away with builtin BT). Controllers feel good on both, feedback is decent and feels similar. And now we're able to play the exact same thing on both, I have to say, even though PSVR2 is brighter and deeper in the blacks, it's just soooo blurry because of those lenses....PC VR is more about the whole experience, getting more text and detail all around, and the blurry PSVR2 doesn't work here IMO, nothing is clear unless you look right in that direction. Quest3 is just more enjoyable in that regards, text on the side is still clear enough, the clarity and wider sharp area definitely makes you forget the LCD panel and the streaming/compression of the Quest Link (vs. the straight DP of the PSVR2), which is barely noticeable. I get why Sony did the PC adapter, I still love the PSVR2 for what it is (as a great companion for the PS5), so I got the PC adapter, but at that point it almost feels like I did that for moral support! The more it goes, the more pancake lenses are just making the difference over anything else.

PSVR2 uses batteries in the controllers that already wont last long and will make the headset obsolete in the future because you cant buy them Seperate, you need to purchase an entire new unit to get new controllers/battery. Hmmm. Not a black and white answer. If all you want is it wired to a PC for cockpit stuff, the main considerations are whether or not you want an OLED screen on the PSVR2 or better lenses on the Quest 3. I think you have to consider the Quest 3 battery life, too. It still drains even when wired, so it will die in about 3 hours or so if that's an issue. Also, I'd hold off until the PSVR2 PC adapter is released and tested. It launches early August I think? A month I guess.

@@marathi22 If you're planning to play primarily cockpit type games, then I'd probably go with PSVR2. For a game like Elite Dangerous I think the OLED blacks make a lot of difference, and racing games are probably the worst case scenario for Quest's streaming solution due to the large delta from one frame to another. I recommend Quest 3 in most cases, but cockpit type games are the primary exception, and so if that's what you want a headset for then yea, I'd at least wait for PSVR2's adapter to release so you can try it out. The battery life stuff on Quest 3 isn't as big a factor as is often mentioned, because if you don't care about a cable, you could simply keep it plugged into a power outlet the entire time.

Meta should stop being so fucking stubborn and go with OLED, yes it's more expensive but it's far superior to LCD because of the level of depth it provides at that close to someone's eyes. The first 2 Oculus Rifts used OLED's and they were fantastic despite the low resolution.
@TheEPICskwock
@TheEPICskwock 11 күн бұрын
The reason why LCD works better for VR is LCD will always be more clear then OLED if they both are the same resolution for example. The reason why is that the pixels in OLED displays actually have much bigger gaps between the pixels then LCD does. Technically a 4K OLED and a 4K LCD the LCD will always be clearer. The difference in clarity is not noticable on a TV or monitor though to the naked eye, (unless you are looking very closely). You would have to put your face up to the screen to see it. Thats the problem though, with VR, your face IS up against the screen, so you can see the difference in clarity easily, where on a tv or monitor it would look the same. Although OLED does have better colors, contrast ratio ect. I have an OLED tv, and i would never go back to LCD for my tv, OLED is way better. Its just not the best technology for VR until they have oled displays on VR headsets that are well above 4K resolution. Remember, 4K looks a lot more blurry when your face is 1 inch away from the screen.

Having owned a hand full of headsets (Rift CV1, Rift S, PSVR 1, PSVR 2 and Quest 2) I have to say the Quest 3 is the most uncomfortable of all by far. Even after buying the Bobo VR M3 head strap after trying a few third party ones. It is still heavy, awkward, and pinches the Hell out of my nose. How can Meta make such an incredible piece of hardware technically and continue to fail so badly on comfort? It baffles me. Even the Quest 2 was better for me. Additionally, it took me forever to luckily find an IPD setting that didn't give me headaches. The first couple of weeks with the Quest 3 were painful for me. I would get splitting headaches after 30 mins of use. I measured my IPD with various apps and the IPD they suggested still gave me headaches. I was ready to return the headset when I magically just moved the IPD to some mystical spot and headaches took far longer to happen. I never had this problem with any other headset. Maybe those others have more leeway due to the lenses or something? I just hope to god its IPD never moves or I might be back to headache city again. Like I said, the Quest 3 is amazing technically, I like the controllers and no wire is great. But man, the comfort makes me consider not putting it on each time I want to use it. I sometimes just go to the PSVR 2 as that is much more comfortable for me even with its drawbacks. Oh, and the PSVR 2 FOV makes it much more immersive for me. The big problem with it is it doesn't always have the games I want and the sweet spot for the lenses is super annoying when the headset shifts. Here's hoping Meta actually hires some decent ergonomic designers because the ones they have continue to fail. This is going to be something I consider more going forward.

Furthermore, Quest 2 is very limited graphically, even games like Moss: Book 2 look much better on the PSVR with the 2013 PS4 hardware for example. Apart from the fact that there are games like Resident Evil 7, Skyrim VR, Doom 3 VR and No Man's Sky that you can play on PSVR, it ends up being an excellent deal especially if you don't have a powerful PC to handle VR.

I have both and if I had to go back and buy only one I’m going with quest 3. I was amazed with the psvr2, eye tracking haptic feedback, controllers are dope, it’s gotta be my most immersive vr experience today but it’s also gathering dust in the corner… I rarely use it. Quest 3 is just way more bang for the buck. Web browsing, watching movies, app support that make watching movies even cooler, streaming Xbox, stand alone use or use it on the pc. You got a larger library especially when combined with steam. CHEAPER games and you can actually refund games. Tons of features, always being updated and improved. Not to mention the pass through is pretty awesome. They won me over… psvr2 coulda been just as great but Sony did a crap job at supporting it and had to make it difficult to even be used on a pc. They butchered this project. Imo if they did something as little as making psvr2 plug n play on the pc it’d be getting way more love but nah Sony don’t want us buying from their competitors who us give way better deals lol

LCD is still superior to OLED for vr at similar prices. There are a lot of areas that are important in Vr. Rift s had an LCD and Quest 1 was higher res with IPD adjustment and most people still preferred the Rift S display, mainly because of the full RGB stripe matrix. Oled usually uses pentile. Psvr2 also suffers from mura, fresnel lenses and motion clarity - all issues related to the Oled panels. Better blacks and colors dont outweight all these cons.

@@sasuke11457at least you can fix the comfort on quest 3, on psvr2 your pretty much out of luck and the headset is pretty uncomfortable as well (which is weird because psvr1 was way better in terms of comfort). You dont need a battery strap though, you could also play plugged in (just like psvr2 always requires you to do) or use an already existing powerbank. @chan13153

@@sasuke11457 While those 2 things aren't needed I do recommend them as well. But they aren't that $$$. For head strap you can get a kiwi elite strap for $25-$30. Power bank cost about $15-$20 for a 10,000 20w power bank. But this one most people already own a power bank so most will not need to make this purchase. I would also suggest a good link cable even if you have a good router. Wire is still more reliable. I would recommend one that allows you to plug in an external power as well giving you unlimited playtime. Those cost about $20-$25. And if you plan on playing wireless I suggest VD for $20 even though air-link and steam link works just fine. That brings total to $500 to $530 to $580 depending on what accessories you want to add. But $500 out of the box will get you wireless PCVR and Native Quest. Still cheaper than PSVR2 ($550) + adapter ($60). + DP cable ($8)= $620 which is the base cost to get PCVR.

@AndrewTSq 28 күн бұрын
Actually, you can open the quest dev app, and change the bitrate for wireless and wired. So just up the wireless until your router can not handle it anymore. There is also a file that you put into your games folder, that lets you have field of view renderer (or what its called in english), where you have highest resolution in the middle of the screen (where youi watch) and furthest out it only renders in half resolution to make the FPS even better.

@@coolertuep you can largely fix the discomfort (and loss of image sweet spot) on PSVR2 with the Globular Cluster mod. It'll run you $50 though which isn't far off from a Quest 3 battery strap, and isn't as flexible in options to suit each person. Regarding battery, Quest 3 starts off WAY worse with the battery built into the headset... but if upgraded through a strap with hotswappable batteries like the bobovr ones becomes playable for much longer than a PSVR2 can be, because there's nothing you can do to prevent the downtime of charging the sense controllers, whereas there's an infinite use solution for every element of the Quest 3.

Also, the only major games to get a PSVR2 for in my opinion are GT7, RE Village/RE4 and Horizon. There don’t seem to be many (or quite frankly any) PSVR2 exclusives in the pipeline from Sony, while Meta is announcing more and more standalone exclusives, in addition to the already big oculus/PCVR library (which could all become playable on the cloud soon if the Avalanche rumors are true). guys i had both - psvr2 lenses are unfortunately a joke. quest has its own problems but pancacke lenses with no sweet spot cuz whole picture is clear is something different. for pc with smaller texts, pc games and so on its literally night and day difference. and to add to that - ps5vr requires additional overpriced adapter, no option for wireless, haptics will probably dont exist, hdr isnt streamed via that adapter, literally they stripped it of best features and want x money for silly adapter... literally 5 minutes after checking quest 3 sharpness i returned my ps5vr and i like it, re4 remake or re9 is great (tho i already played it), gran turismo is great, but thats all, rest of the games are on quest cuz it has x times userbase size so no dev can skip quest platform.

This was an easy decision for me. Either deal with Facebook and their shitty ecosystem and practices, or just go with a Sony device that will provide me with what I want without the shenanigans. Easy peezy.

I will have to replace my Reverb G2 eventually when I can no longer keep outdated versions of WMR running, and Meta already screwed over Oculus (I started VR with a Rift), but getting a PSVR2 still feels like trying to pick a headset from the less-annoying company.

RIP Sony is "making deep cuts to funding for VR games," making for "very few opportunities" for in-house VR games in the future. "only two first-party games for the PlayStation VR2 are in development".

@@iwantalotIt looks like Sony's PlayStation VR2 is not living up to the company's sales expectations just over a year after it first hit the market. The discrepancy has caused a "surplus of assembled devices... throughout Sony’s supply chain," according to Bloomberg's sources. ..

@@mikeuk666 bangers keep on rolling out for psvr2,all looking far superior on psvr2 with haptics, dfr, eyetracking and true blacks. Aces of thunder, wanderer, alien , behemoth, zombie army, arken age, phasmophobia, metro too much to play and upcoming comparison videos with FDR comparing to standalone are going to hit hard. Bloomberg means it's no news as articles read like hit pieces with unnamed sources. I have read reports of killzone and last of us coming over also unnamed sources and I ignore these too.
