Ball bearing steel, is a very high quality steel, that not many people know, it makes the best steel for a hard use fixed blade knife. Its carbides cut really smooth and easy and it's my favorite steel to sharpen. It just likes to get sharp! It's also one of the toughest steels arround. I have tried almost all the high quality tool steels and super steels out there...but ballbearing steel, will always be my favorite. Whenever I see slingshot ammo, I always think of a hammer, smashing them into a blade stock!!!

@@charlieberry8056 I don't have any videos but I can help you on 3 different things, that I really know and have experience. For Slingshot hunting, you have to get a good slingshot, with flat rubbers (stay away from the round rubber ones, that are made from steel and plastic, they are not accurate at all, even the most expensive ones) So, get a flat rubber band slingshot, made of laminate wood or any hard wood! Then for ammo, I guess you know what you need. KZfaq video and practice, help a lot. The diameter and the weight of the ball, determens the distance of the target. I mean, I would choose a more heavy ball, to shot at close distance and so on. Also the diameter of the ball, is another factor that will determine, what I'm going to shot. If I want to shot a glass window, then I choose a larger than 1mm diameter ball, to add to the power, that can break a glass easier. Be careful, I've seen steel balls, reflected from windows, back to the shooter! Always shot in an angle and don't be close to the target, except it's a Rabbit, that came in front of you! I'm also into blowguns, which is my favorite weapon, but fixed blade knives, is that what I know more about. I have huge collection, but I'm more a user trying always to find the best out there, than I am a collector. I don't "Baby" my knives, they all have been used for long periods, before I make my opinion on them. If I can help you more, please feel free to ask for anything I could possibly help. Thank you for your kind words.

This is an excellent test and he's a brilliant shooter! Really really accurate. However, I think that it would be necessary to shoot many of the same balls before you can determine a pattern. For example, you shoot six or seven 8mm lead, then six or seven 8mm steel, and so on. That way you can see whether there's really a pattern or not. I think that's how statisticians study patterns. However, this may not have been the purpose of the video and it's an amazing experiment nonetheless. Thank you for it.

Breathfire I never said anything about him being “bad”. My point wAs that the more aerodynamic the ammo, the better the flight. His mold maker needs a better sprue-cutter to eliminate the ridges which catch the air in flight on it’s way to the target. 😊

Hi! I did some statistics and calculations based on your Results: Rank (Distance in Gelatine): 1. 10mm Lead 2. 11mm Lead 3. 11mm Steel 4. 12mm Steel / 9mm Lead 5. 8mm Lead 6. 8mm Steel . Rank (Mass): 1. 11mm Lead => 7.9g 2. 12mm Steel => 7.1g 3. 10mm Lead => 5,9g 4. 11mm Steel => 5,5g 5. 9mm Lead => 4,3g 6. 8mm Lead => 3,0g 7. 8mm Steel => 2,1g . Excellent video. But IMO needs to be repeated because you can see that because the gel block is not restrained, so when the balls hit the gel block it gets 'jolted', back a bit. This is particularly noticeable with the larger balls. This effectively reduces the penetration so skews the results . Repeat test and have a back stop for the gel. I suspect the larger balls will then show a higher penetration. This will be apparent particularly for the steel balls which have less mass / surface area & hence higher CoD than the lead.

Great penetration test! I do still wonder what would be the best ammo for long range target shooting accuracy? Would the 8mm steel be the underdog in that case or would 8mm lead be preferred or even something more heavy? (these question are asked imagined the bands get maximized for every ammo type of course) And just a thought, I guess that if he would have shot a 10mm steel it could have beat or be in the same spot as the 11mm lead, right?! (considered that 11mm steel was deeper than 12mm I figure 10 might even top that) Or would 10mm steel land behind 12mm steel?! It would actually be the most important ball that could have been shot after this lineup, because it would go either second or third place or second last, interesting?! Also 9.5 or 10 would be more cost efficient and might be the preferred ball for my first question to be the best choice to not only cover penetration but also long range and accuracy?!

Tungsten. It's super heavy and hard. EDIT : I forgot to mention it's expensive.

Nice penetration with the 10 mm lead. I'm curious to know what is the green elastic you are using? That rubber shows no mercy.

When I was a kid, we lived in Cyprus the locals used a length of 1/4" Square brown elastic, and a leather eye shaped patch, fitted with a thinner chamois pouch, they used to fill the chamois pouch with lead shot /pellets / marbles for bird / vermin shooting. We wrapped the elastic around our hands and over the thumb, many black nails later we got the hand of it.
