@@HaydenCroix it is wheel hp you're right this guy doesn't know what he's talking about because mk7.5 gti or gli make 228 wheel hp thats around 305 crank hp stock ...bone stock thats why i never get my car info from youtube its mostly kids like this kid here who got his license yesterday and knows nothing about cars

Absolutely love my IE stage 1 93 tune. Really woke the car up, love surprising and being able to play with some V8's with just the tune. Not to mention switching between octanes is free, mobile tuning is on the way, flex fuel support and awesome customer service. Planning on flex fuel before stage 2, but I will be buying pretty much all my modifications from IE to support an awesome company.

I'm a tuner for the caliber srt4 community. And I own a 450 whp csrt4 myself. Glad hp tuners supports the gti/r. I'm looking for a an R currently. Glad to see these cars respond well to tuning and bolt ons

Hardware and software aside, IE's customer service is incredible. I've always been able to get ahold of them quickly and have any issue or question resolved/answered in a timely manner. Worth noting as I'm currently tuned through them.

Absolutely best customer service team around an ive been working on cars since before nuespeed came out with the 8 valve supercharger kit for the 2.0 na,,,they have even helped ppl that bricked there ecu not using a good battery charger while flashing,,I love ie stage 2 93 octane tune ,,,I can cruise around very conservative or turn the traction off an need new tires ever month lol lol🤑

@@jaymoney7968 I just put in an IE Turbo Inlet and CAI on my APR stage I GTI SE DSG, it's a 2015. Not sure why I waited so long to do this, planning on going stage II this spring and not sure who to go with now that APR isn't offering it anymore. I'm leaning towards going with IE.

@@du3lcitiz3n it's all preference an what you want down low an up top of the rpms ,,I'm ie stage 2 an dsg tune ,,I love it ,,smooth as butter,,go ie if you want reliability,,,there's alot of custom tuners out there as well pushing every horse an foot pounds,,so it really up to you

@@du3lcitiz3n I'm also going k04 in time so I went with a company with " from my research has a great k04 file as well ,,apr does as well to keep the power up top so u can hook up to the road an not just spinning the tires,,an so does ie ,with relatively the same gains depending on what other mods you have an honestly being around the performance world for a bit ,,ie is pricey, but you get what you pay for ,,an that's just it ,,for example ,,go fast bits sells a upgrade for the leaky diverter valve, aka blow off /recercilatory valve in our cars including the updaded version for 150 bucks that's basically a billet piece of aluminum with a brass plunger an springs,,now something like that from a reputable seller you can get a very good identical version for 25 bucks on aliexpress,,,but I'd never use any software or supposedly k04 from there ,,there's some things you can do urself an make happen without spending a ton of money ,like ur custom Cai,,wich I kinda got also ,,like I got all my charge an intake pipes thermal wrapped before an after the intercooler,alone with a turbo blanket an downpipe fully wrapped,,it helps with heat soak an keeps intake Temps down by keeping the engine bay as cool as possible,,an intake Temps down is good for everything,,happy tuning

IE IS20 tunes make 394 hp (crank) on e85 best one for e85 users. This is also a flex tune with additional hardware so you can do pump or e85 without changing tune. for the tunes for manual users, you will need a clutch upgrade for all companies on high torque. Love the vids keep it up!!!

EQT is38 tuned on e85 made 404whp in 93 degrees. Been with them for over 2 years. “Picosito checking in”

I have an Integrated Engineering Stage 1 tune on my MK6, intake, catted downpipe, catback exhaust. The engine was fully refreshed BEFORE the tune, with a new DSG flywheel. I bought a used car and before doing any tunes, wanted to make it reliable. I have not done DSG tune yet, as the car is on Stage 1 +. Stays consistent at 15psi, if very cold outside maybe peak at 17 momentarily, but then settles on 15. Also have a port polish cylinder head, valve lapping, oil catch can and rear center poly (red) engine mount to control wheel hop. The porting helped on higher rev range and top end. No CEL and it even passed emissions DMV hooking a computer through the OBD port. It is not the baddest tune, but it did increase overall the power and performance of the car and still make it reliable. IE stage 1 has a smooth powerband and increase rev limit a few hundreds which comes handy after the port and polish. I bought the tune more than a yr ago and customer support still respond to my questions. I send them pics of the spark plugs and get their honest feedback, etc.

I've been on unitronic stage 2 on stock clutch for my 2017 gti for about a year now. No slipping yet but I rarely go hard on the car.

United Motorsports has been great for my Golf R. I knew I wanted more of a custom tune on the car with added features like MPI, Launch Control, No Lift Shift, and Haldex controller. They offer off the shelf tunes for more simple builds but also offer custom tuning and data logging as they will be doing for my G25-660 turbo. The only complaint I have with them is you have to go through a United Motorsports distributor and they don’t offer at home services.

I was hoping you actually covered the United Motor Sports tune. I am getting the engine and trans tuned today and adding a neuspeed intake. Although I wanted Unitronic my shop only uses UMS tunes. I’m interested to see the power upgrade. But good vid.

I personally have not driven a UMS car so that is why I did not include it. I have driven and or raced tunes from each of the other companies I did cover.

I couldn't find a video for it so I assume you did it off camera but how did you install your wing? I have the same one and unfortunately it came damaged as hell but even then I tried to put it on to see and tbh the adhesion level was the trashiest thing I've ever seen did you bolt or use different adhesive by chance?

You are correct I did this off camera. But I used my own 3m tape and a heat gun to install my wing. It’s been on over a year now and has seen some very high speeds without an issue

I'm new to the Golf group, just picked up a 2016 GTI, 60K miles with a manual trans. I'm not sure yet which tune to get yet, but something conversative. 300hp is what I'm thinking. This video helps, Thank you.

I’d go based on the clutch you decide to go with. You will need to upgrade the clutch to hold the power but I’d probably go IE or EQT if I were you.

I have the unitronic stage 1+ tune and I love it. I kind of like their conservative numbers. Nice to know it’s almost like a built in buffer. My clutch does not like it lol.

I went Unitronic as well but I don't think they are actually that conservative. I just had my car on the dyno and it was on the lean side. Apparently they run lean and push timing, the only thing conservative is the boost. Going from stage 1 to stage 2 Unitronic I didn't gain ANY boost. They don't turn the boost up at all. I made 279/297 hp/tq on a Dynojet with the stage 2 91 octane file. Which is kinda crummy for a car with a DP and IC. On my Dragy I trapped 103-104 mph stage 1 and 106-107 stage 2. That's at roughly 1,600 ft DA which is not great but not horrible. EQT says they use less timing and more fuel and turn up the boost to make power. I'm going to try them.

I've got a '17 MK7 GTI with the Unitronic stage-1+ as well (93 octane.) Once the stock clutch started slipping at an appalling 68k, I decided that as long as I need a new clutch, I might as well get a tune. Got a DKM stage-2 single disc clutch. I've been impressed. Pah-lentee of power at all rpm's including pulls above a buck. I don't do many digs so the clutch now has 40k and except for the idle rattle, it has held up without any question. I really like the very linear hp [310 claimed] and torque [345 ft. lb. claimed] HP is sexy, torque wins races. Keep'er between the lines brothah's.

I've had an APR Stage I for over 50K miles on my 2015 GTI SE DSG... sad they don't do downpipes and Stage II tunes. I'm trying to figure out what route to go now this spring for going stage II. I just installed an IE Turbo Inlet and CAI. Loving that. I may get an IE downpipe and Intercooler and just go with IE for my tuning.

I've been thinking about getting an IE stage 1, the power gains seems like enough for me. And I've heard recently that the EPA is trying to shut down Cobb (not sure how true it is) and would hate to get an AP and then be SOL

The EPA is definitely trying to restrict Cobb but I wouldn’t say shut down. Tuners just aren’t allowed to cheat the emission systems anymore through Cobb and likely all other tuners will follow suit soon enough to avoid any lawsuits from the EPA. That being said you can’t go wrong with IE.

@@2ZH if only going stage 1 either one will be a great option. I will say I prefer to use the Cobb because it allows you to monitor the engine health on the fly. As far as performance goes you would be happy with both of them I’m sure. If you ever plan to make big power EQT has really become the king of doing it consistently, IE can also make some great power as well though.

You should mention that anyone wanting to tune a manual transmission car will need to upgrade their clutch. GTI clutches are not designed to handle the increased torque. You are only talking about horsepower increases..... The torque increase is phenomenal on the IE tune. I have a 2012 GTI 6 speed. I installed the stage 1, 91 octane a couple years ago. I have no other modifications....... The results are eye opening!! I will definitely put a smile on your face! Very smooth power throughout the RPM range. Highly recommend Integrated Engineering tunes

Ran unitronics is38 tune on my gti last year full bolt on. Very clean tune very conservative. Power is spread evenly through the gears it just keeps pulling. Ive heard eqt and sneeky are definitely faster tunes. If anyone has input id love to hear it

Question if I have a jb4 tune and walk in a dealership with it will Volkswagen void my warranty ?

If spotted and the tech knows what he is looking at then yes. The whole point of the JB4 is to be able to remove it without a trace of a flash on the ECU counter. If it is hidden well enough it may be okay.

If the golf you are getting is a manual you don’t need to worry about dsg tunes at all. The only tune you will need is an ECU tune and a new clutch eventually

EQT is definitely the most solid all around. Fast as shit, and the tune drives just like stock. I’d say go with EQT and if not go with sneeky.

For sure, that is why I went with Unitronic, the Unitronic exhaust I ordered took two month longer to get to my house than anything else, it was nice to throw on the other supporting mods I had and their 1+ tune while I waited. Now I just need to install the Exhaust and throw on the Stage 2 file.

You didn’t mention that IE requires DSG tune to run the high torque file giving you the 310HP at stage 1. If your manual… most companies say you’re going to roast your clutch if you’re anything higher than stage 1 low torque

It is recommended to run a DSG tune when tuning your ECU even if using a low torque file no matter what company you go with.

Some unitronic dealers actually do the flash for free .call around ,in my city there is 3 dealers that flash and I will just flash for free

Yes you need to run a dsg tune. The car will run without it but you are risking blowing up your trans.

@@HaydenCroix so if I already have a Cobb access port but it doesn’t have the dsg tune and I got the one with the dsg tune and all the eqt tunes already downloaded can I just switch out the access port or do I need to I tune my car first. Thanks for the help

@@haddadyfn2647 you can call Cobb to have the AP DSG enabled for $400. If you sell your AP and buy a used one with an EQT tune and DSG tune just make sure you uninstall the current AP before installing the new one.

I paid only $200 cad for a used jb4 without cable or Bluetooth and I'm close to all those stage 1 numbers

@@onelowvdub I've been running the JB4 for over two years now. If you get the settings dialed in for boost and (more importantly, fueling - they run quite rich) they make just about as much power as any flash tune on the market. It's not until you upgrade the turbo that you really see much of a difference flash tune vs JB4.

On a sneeky tune myself rn, Honestly been disappointed with it. Felt like my old Eurodyne OTS map pulled harder and it was only a 93 map, Sneeky one is E30.

@@charliemeyer7912 yeah I just ran the 93 adjustable file with maxed boost sliders and octane adjusted to 95-96 with 93 and booster in the tank. And that felt like it had more power tbh

So what I don't understand is why would you go with say IE nearly 800$ for the cable and stage 2 as apposed to just spending 700 on an access port? Same goes with having a shop dyno tune as apposed to an access port? I'm extremely new to all this and am trying to find the best route.. just got all my bolt ons installed to go to stage 2, I'm on a stock tune right now in my mk7 gti manual.

Assuming you’ve got an upgraded clutch as well. Any stage 2 high torque file will be great. I recommend to use the Cobb platform unless you have a reputable vw tuning shop locally for a good dyno tune.

I'm on Unitronic's stage 2 91 octane tune (they do offer this but you have to call them) with a Unitronic downpipe, APR stock location intercooler and a drop-in air filter. I dyno'd 279 whp and 297 wtq on a Dynojet. So it really is a weaker tune and although they are known as conservative, they push timing and run lean air/fuel ratio to make their power. The only thing conservative is the boost level. They make ~15 hp less than EQT and IE with like 5 lbs less boost. That's a good chunk less boost but to still make close to the same power means they are really running lean and pushing timing. How is that conservative? 🤷‍♂️ Unitronic adds NO boost from stage 1 to stage 2 but the car did pick up 3-4 mph and holds power to the limiter better. Bone stock car on Unitronic stage 1 with 91 octane fuel I trapped 103-104 mph. After adding APR intercooler, Unitronic downpipe and Unitronic stage 2 91 octane tune I trapped 106-107 mph on the same fuel with the same boost. That's in very average DA, ~1,700 ft (1,400 ft elevation and 50°). Just incase anyone wanted some real world numbers. My guess is EQT/IE etc would make about 15 whp more on 91 octane I but with a lot more boost. What's really more conservative? Less boost but more timing and leaner fueling? Or more boost with richer fueling and less timing? I honestly don't know lol. I do think that a lot of these companies over rate their power estimate. I saw a video of a GTI being dyno'd with EQT stage 2 91 octane with a downpipe and intake and it made 294 whp. So saying that their stage 2 STARTS at 300 wheel is little bogus. I'd say 300 wheel on any stage 2 91 octane tune is good, on a fair dyno.

I had unitronic software on my 2003 GTI and again on my 2015 GTI. Good tunes both times and gave me no issues. That being said EQT is in another league. I had stage 2 unitronic and eqt stage 2 for the last few years now. It’s more powerful but it’s the power delivery that’s the difference. I could tell the second I hit the gas the first time. Got rid of all those weird hesitation issues and I was shocked how much smoother it was overall. It was worth every penny and then some. Like I said I have nothing against uni at all but if you can stomach the initial investment in the AP and the tune you will not regret it!

My mk7 gti on EQT stage 1 93 with only Ruths ngk spark plugs gapped at 0.024, MST turbo inlet and drop in filter made 295hp and 368ftlb at the wheels.

@@krez060 Dynos are all over the place. I'm Unitronic stage 2+ now and I recently drove an EQT stage 2 car with DP, intake, full exhaust no cats etc and it was much slower than my car. It was slower than mine even when I was on stage 2. The turbo at 29 psi makes too much heat and it's already hot here in Phoenix so the car is just inefficient. I had my C6 tuned recently and it made 413 on the tuner's dyno, then I went back to my friend's dyno (the same one my GTI was on before) and it made 385. So there are just a lot of high reading dynos out there.

Don't sleep on UM.. still the OGs to flex fuel, the only to offer a haldex tune. Apr back in the day was straight stealing their coding for their tunes too. That being said.. having a handheld to datalog and flash at home can't be beat.

Honestly, I feel like my GTI used to pull/run better on my Eurodyne OTS adjustable file with oct booster in the tank than my current Sneeky E30 tune.. Pretty disappointed. Also supposed to have been a SCP map but at most i get burbles/overrun with no "pops" and im catless with a straight through res only. Sad.

SneakyTune> all and it's not even close until you go big turbo and UM also makes good tunes for most big turbos. If Sneaky had a dsg tune id go with that too. You know Eqt is slow when I walk my buddy's Golf R e30 EQT in My golf R when I was on APR 93.

Now that they offer tunes for the power max and is38 they are more in the game. That being said they don’t offer stage 2 tunes only stage 1. This is why they were not listed.

Apr stage gives 305 wheel horse ......all these numbers he's mentioning are wheel horse not crank this guy has no idea what he's talking about because mk7.5 gti or Gli make 228 wheel horse thats around 305 hp to the crank stock and this guy is saying IE stage 1+ gives 305 crank lol so basically stock power.......any numbers these tuner companies advertise are wheel hp not crank my friend

Uhm well not exactly. So some tune companys are showing crank,wheel or sometimes both. I think you came off a bit harsh and i think you were a bit misinformed as the gti/gli does not make 305 too the crank stock. Drivetrain loss on the fwd 2.0t is only around 8-15% so not much at all. That would put it anywhere from 240-260 crank horsepower. Remember that no dyno is equal too another...they vary from model to model and even differ using the same types. You will never get the same reading twice either...best you can do is average! I think its safe too say the gti/gli put down 245-255 crank(and also no two vehicles will make the same power, engines are not created equal either). You can put the same mods on two brand new same vehicles and make completely different power:)
