I was hesitant about metal frames when they arrived back on the scene a couple of years ago. Finally got an opportunity to skate a pair of the Sola Equipment street frames and thought I would share my thoughts. Better late than never, right?

Oh Btw, they had mics attached to coping in the ASA and X-Games back in the day. The side screws on the frames were also protruding and weren´t recessed in the frame, hence the noise you hear on those old ASA and X-Games videos. And yeah, I bet it feels awesome!

I'm such a weirdo: I'm terrified of riding flat, because I skate bowls and wheelbite sounds like death, but I also learned most of my grinds with little to no wax, because it made the lock feel solid with no slip out and I would just skate faster to grind. Weird stuff happens when you're the only blader at the park.

I spend mist of my time carving and getting air in bowls, I only skate flat 😂 falling is scary but usually just slide down. Yes occasional wheel bite but most of the time it simply slow you down.

I'm glad someone said it about missing soul tricks by 2mm haha it's ridiculous! If you can lock on with a soul you should be able to do the same with an M12 or a VII - I find the difference comes in once you've locked on, how you stay on with a smaller or bigger soul.

Great review man. Some similarities and differences in our experiences for sure. I loved the thin walls for topsides, found it made a big difference. Didn't find the shock an issue, but maybe Adapts are already so unforgiving I didn't notice. These are my daily driver for now fore sure. Thanks for another great episode! 👍

I was obsessed with street / aggressive skating back in the 90s (I am 40 years old now). Stumbled across your channel and have subbed. You've made me want to get back into it again. I have skated them for the last year and found the same pros/cons plus to me (41) topsides felt a bit more difficult than on a beefier frame. That's why I added diy uhmw sliders. Adding 6mm uhmw made it a bit easier not to roll and they still slid well like that.
@coreyenglish8706
@coreyenglish8706 2 жыл бұрын
Same here! I could still get it done at 31, but it definitely felt the wheels touching more often on topsides on coping. Kind of keeps you honest, but can also be annoying.

Do the metal h blocks slide well on a plastic p rail I have the black anodized aluminum ground control hd 60s and the first time I hit my p rail they stuck on the rail and I went head over heels I’m wondering is it the anodized that made that happen or the metal

So would metal soul plates be a good compliment to these? Or perhaps a metal soul frame
@NorthernGrim
@NorthernGrim 2 жыл бұрын
looking at the shock sheets, would it not remove some of the power transfer? The whole idea of the frames was about being great in a bowl which means it's all smooth, smooth landings and the shock sheets would surely reduce the amount of power transfer nulling the point of a metal frame? I don't know haha I might be looking too much into it as usual!

@@coreyenglish8706 yeah if it's more of a sort of vibration dampener rather than something that will give way easily, then it makes sense. My knees are too ruined to do gaps anyway 🤣

@coreyenglish8706

I haven’t tried creates yet, and the solas are in a category of their own. So out of the two remaining, I prefer the fluid 5s to them frames. Thems are great, but not for as long as the fluids.

More power trasfer is considered desirable. Yet you, and many others, are proponents of shock absorbers, which seem designed to not transfer power, but instead absorb it. How is it that shock absorption and power transfer are not inversely correlated?
@coreyenglish8706
@coreyenglish8706 2 жыл бұрын
This is something I’m curious about with the muzzle pad thing. If it is a dense/harder foam that only dampens vibration, then the loss of power should be minimal. I agree that a big soft pad, like the SL for example, would eliminate a significant amount of power transfer. I feel like the constant vibration from the frames is what really did me in.
