If you're here, chances are you're here to correct me... This was my first short and I didn't do that much research on the cali sleeper or a legal car limit... Just wanted to mention now that I didn't count the cali sleeper because it's not technically a multiple unit.

It's alright, we all learn. You have also taught me some things as well so don't worry.

Really nice video and formatting but haven’t you forgotten the caledonian sleeper?

I immediately thought of the Caledonian Sleeper as well when the question of "what's the longest passenger train in the UK" was asked.
@TheMusicianTom29 күн бұрын
Yeah I think the Caledonian Sleeper is 16 cars at Euston, and splits into four parts in Scotland
@bombardygamer424829 күн бұрын
@@TheMusicianTom Depends on which sleeper. There are two. The highlander, which departs Euston at 21:15 (20:59 on Sundays) splits into 3 parts at Edinburgh (Waverley), going to Aberdeen, Inverness, and Fort William. The lowlander, which departs Euston later at 23:50 (23:30 on Sundays), splits at Carstairs, half going to Glasgow (Central) and the other half to Edinburgh (Waverley).

The longer the better - a Hull, Leeds, Manchester Victoria - Holyhead direct service on SailRail would be really good in a first class and express configuration to connect with the ferries to Dublin and would work even better when the high speed rail tunnel under the Irish Sea from Holyhead to Dublin Connolly or Dublin Hueston gets built - we might even see the first of Irish trains on the U.K. railways and vice versa, if they could bring in adaptable or variable gauge technology

Class 90 + 10 Mk3 + DVT/90? In British Railway its 273/274 meters long
@button8527 күн бұрын
Class 390 11 car is 265 metres long
@willridestrains26 күн бұрын
Cool, didn’t really think of that 😅
@garysoap792529 күн бұрын
Well if this video was made 4 years ago then it could be the Abellio greater anglia 12 mk3 sets which were around 313.58 meters long
@garysoap792529 күн бұрын
But they mainly used 11 car sets which were around 23 meters shorter this being the approximate length of the mk3 The full train length above includes the length of a standard DVT and class 90 passenger variant being the same length but faster then the freight variant of the class 90
@shaddow186729 күн бұрын
The true longest one (in the past) was when they was testing class 390s coupled what would be around 435 meters long coupled kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ar6EmZWS39mvfpc.htmlsi=xQSvLz8gkJukazSj

Thameslink trains are pretty long to be honest.

I love trains, but it does make sense. The behavior the population to the south obviously the shorter the trains because I guess less space to navigate through. It’s the same thing up here across the pond, but we still got our big ass cargo trains.

The limit is 12 carriages? I remember during lockdown trains were 18 to 20 carriages. Looked nuts at my local station that only allows 4 or 5 carriage trains or half a 9 or 10 carriage set.
@cmdrquillon939824 күн бұрын
No, as far as I'm aware there's not an actual limit, purely what's economically feasible & what the stations and infrastructure can support. BR occasionally operated trains up to sixteen carriages in length in revenue earning service, although these were discontinued post-privatisation due to staffing costs & the abolishment of loco-hauled stock AFAIK.
@willridestrains23 күн бұрын
you're right, 12 carriages isn't actually a limit, it's just recommended by NR for daytime passenger trains to not be longer than 12 cars

There is no 12 coach limit. The caledonian sleeper is 16 coaches and 355m long, and future HS2 trains will be 400m long. Also, a class 701 is longer than the 345s. Also, the 700s coaches aren't short. Instead, they are the average length if you want a short coach look at the class 139s.
@A-Trainspotter-From-Berkshire23 күн бұрын
@@willridestrains The Network Rail rules about max length of units has nothing to do with coaches but instead to do with Brake Control Units or BCU's for short, each cab has a BCU and your permitted to have 12 BCUs in a single train. Also the NR standard carriage length is just under 20m which set by the Mark 1 coach and a Desrio City carriage is 20.2m. Caledonian sleeper accepts regular return and single tickets on part of there services and certain rangers and rovers on all of there services. For example the max length of a 153 service can be six coaches because each unit contains two BCUs one for each cab.

HS2 will run 200m 8 carriage trains, which will be doubled up to form 16 carriage 400m trains. The rolling stock has already been ordered.
