You get Mordekaiser to kill the void and then you get the world runes to kill Mordekaiser. Bam! Everyone then can kill each other without the world ending.

Current world-ending threads: - The Void (and the Watchers): The antithesis of creation, long story short. However, as Riot has manage it entirely as a plot device more than an actual faction, don't expect much anytime soon. Also, the Watcher's retcon from last year made a plot hole, so that has to be fixed first, until then is just "something something Watchers are comin'!", and it's silly too because there's Icathia's ruins and certain places of the Shuriman desert with Void Rifts, and another at the bottom of the ocean near the Marai civilization, and yet they remain unused. Otherwise, this should be the ultimate thread. - The Black Mist: The sentient collective consciouness of all the living that have fallen to it, and with every Harrowing both increase the number of mist-spreading events aswell as covering larger terrain (right now, is possible that the next relevant Harrowing takes Ionia and Piltover too). Its only stopped by Bilgewater, and thus far hasn't happened anything new for it, so is in a similar spot as the Void in regards to lore misusage. - The World Runes: Each strong by its own, being together risks destroying Runeterra apart, and anyone capable of using them inmediatly becomes a world-thread too (e.g.: Brand). After all, is the equivalent to the Infinity Stones. - The Darkin: If these PTSD-ridden demigods return to work together once again, everyone is screwed, and gods forbid haemomancers ally with them. Virtually inmortal, self-regenerating, and able to funnel life from life around them to recover, granted celestial magic, they should be the perfect warriors walking among mortals. Thus far two are free (Aatrox and Varus), one is struggling for control (Rhaast), and three remain buried somewhere in Runeterra (Valeeva, Cebotaru and Naganeka). - Mordekaiser: Undeath conqueror wanting to shape a kingdom of his own on the afterlife and take as much subjects as he can from the living. - Xerath: Seeing himself as a god to take more than just a recovering kingdom, now everything should return to the sands. Considering he became pure energy and can control any nearby objects' energy, is an ondeal to deal with him. - Zyra: Desires to see a world were only vegetable life exists, and that means toppling down all civilizations and consuming the rest of organic life, until everything is a sole jungle.

I think the similiarity between morde mace and thresh lantern is intentional since both of them trap souls.

I'd be really intrigued to see the heroes try to recruit the demons on to their side. Tahm Kench, Evelynn, Nocturne, they're sentient creatures, spirits that came to the physical realm to eat feast on human emotions. But you can't eat human emotions if all the humans are dead. Another thing that would be interesting, is trying to reason with Fiddlesticks' animalistic hunger. Because, obviously, Fiddlesticks wouldn't have anything to eat if there were no more humans to be afraid of it. But it doesn't have enough of an awareness to realize that. So Fiddlesticks might be a secondary antagonist while the sentient figures of Runeterra are actually planning for the future.

His closest parallel is his modern day incarnation in Swain. Where Mordekaiser wants to conquer for the glory of himself, Swain wants to conquer to create a united front.

I feel like multiple end bosses makes the world more dynamic and open up for more interesting interactions and possibilities. It can allow for grey areas to form for even seemingly black and white heroes and villains.

So we have the Void , the Black Mist, the World Runes, the Darkin slash whatever the Aspects are up to, and Mordekaiser ( which I think is the future that Swian saw when he got his new arm) ,..... are we missing *anyone* else?

I think your point about having multiple world class threats is good, because it can lessen the impact of which ever happens second, but I disagree that the world runes are a threat in of themselves. I think that Ryze will have to end up using them to stop one of the threats and this will further his own character, as he's spent thousands of years stopping them from ever being used

My favourite attack animation for Mordekaiser is his crit animation, mostly because it's used on towers as well - he uses his mace as a battering ram and it's soooo nice Also, there's something soooo pure about you laughing about the squash and stretch on Mordekaiser

There is still Aatrox, the literal World-Ender. I hope he teams up with Mordekaiser for his freedom at some point. On the other hand, he could go against Mordekaiser because the very existence of the Death Realm means Aatrox can never be free, even if he dies. That could be a good step towards making an unconventional nemesis for Mord.

It's a shame Mordekaiser's arc doesn't involve him wanting to take back Noxus because otherwise he could find a pretty good foil in Kled. The idea of two murderous hams fighting over Noxian territory has a lot of comedic potential, perhaps even allowing for a version of Skeletor Mordekaiser.

I would love it if all 3 final bosses arise at the exact same time at full power and just fight for each other for the thrown. every army in LoL lore just just gets up to fight these things, all 3 come up at once, they realize they're screwed but instead of attacking the army they just raise hell against each other while everyone else sneaks away

To be fair I feel like Mordekaiser and the world runes would fit pretty well together, so making Mordekaiser chase the world runes for power would make sense and could merge these 2 storylines,while also giving Morde an antagonist in the form of Ryze.

For Mordekaiser and the Void stepping on eachother's toes... I think that was always going to happen with the Shadow Isles and the Void, they are both just... the origin of some form of evil which makes them similar inherently. I like to think that the main difference is, the Void feels more of a part of 'nature' to me, and so it doesn't matter if everyone teams up to take it on, it'll always be there and it'll always be a problem, and over the course of hundreds or thousands of years it 'may' destroy the world but if kept in check it's just a constant drain on resources. The Shadow Isles on the other hand, are man made, and if Yorick were to succeed, or if Mordekaiser were finished off, that threat is gone. Honestly having both of them as different threats, kinda reminds me of Fire Emblem Awakening in a way. Like it takes some random girl coming back and screaming at everybody, "HEY, MAYBE WE SHOULD PAY SOME ATTENTION TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, THAT IS HAPPENING, RIGHT NOW" in the midst of this relatively inconsequential war between nations. So in that context, the Void seems more like the serious problem that everyone is ignoring, (Which I guess make Kai'sa Lucina?) and Mordekaiser is the full-of-himself warlord claiming territory while being ignorant to the fact that his actions are just weakening the rest of the worlds capacity to defend itself from an evil that even he himself doesn't want to spread. The Void bringing oblivion and nothingness would certainly put a hamper on his goal to create a new afterlife afterall. I don't think the Runes really step on the toes of any of the other 'world ending threats', because, as a story telling device, they're just "objects", or "Weapons." Brand might be the game's equivalent to Thanos, but he doesn't have strict ideologies or an all encompassing goal, he's barely even... sentient, I think. Like, sure he used to be a human and he recognizes things from his life and past, but his one singular 'goal' after taking the first rune, is to collect all the other runes, and I honestly think that if they ever had the story go in the direction where Brand managed to get the runes, all he would end up doing is killing himself, because it just seems like so little of what made Brand 'alive' is still there after he got the first Rune. That might just be me making too many assumptions, but I think the real fear with Brand shouldn't be, 'what if he gets the runes', it should be 'what if the runes are no longer protected.' If he succeeds and kills Ryze, or gathers them all in one place, what happens if some creature from the Void steps in and takes them, or what if he drums up enough a fuss for Mordekaiser to become interested in the Runes. The world Runes themselves to me seem like they could only serve as a tool for one of League's greater villains, not directly the cause of any world ending event on their own.

I also like morde's new kit, for someone so egotistical that they built their own realm where they are king, it feels fitting that their ult takes you there so he can show off his neat death realm, and then he gains the power of the person he traps there until they respawn to escape like, they are dead, and they are in a tiny loser center where they have to pay rent to this guy, I love it

Mordekaiser doesn’t want to end the world he wants everyone to die and the world to continue in the afterlife where he can make his own world. Weak souls are used for materials where as strong souls get to live on. “I am all the stands between eternity and oblivion.” And “I sunder the natural cycle so that all will be persevered.” His goal isn’t the destruction of the world it’s the domination of the world.

so, lets look over the major conflicts going on and the powerful threats to runeterra in the league of legends universe, roughly ordered from biggest to smallest, shall we? -so over here is the void. another dimension of cosmic horror that wants to unmake reality and cause everything to cease to exist. creating horrific monsters and dark followers. -here are the worldrunes, super magic artifacts that created the planet and have the power to crack planets individually, let alone together. -also mordekaiser is planning his return, an evil necromatic overlord hoping to enslave everyone's souls to his will once he returns to the land of the living -then there is the darkin slowly being released from their prisons, and aatrox wanting to slay all the demi-gods and deific beings in hopes to destroy himself and the world with him -you've got another eldritch horror in the north in the form of volibear. -there is the cursed island of the dead slowly creeping its black mist towards the mainlands. -powerful but mostly unknown deity in the sea called nagakabouros who has its own power and cult. -there are demons and evil spirits walking around killing people and doing who knows what. -noxus is going to war against seemingly everyone. -there's also the ongoing wars in the northern tribes of the freljord. -there is nearly a civil war in demacia due to their treatment of magic users. -there is mad scientists doing who knows what in zaun, there's urgot and his followers causing riots. -there is some ninja clans fighting. -there is an island of pirates arguing with eachother constantly. -and then there is also viegar the tiny master of evil. who's doing his best. league of legends has always had a lot of different conflicts, interpersonal conflicts between specific characters aside, there have always been the multiple big threats. and mordekaiser has just been added into that list. now he IS near the top of the threat level list, but hes just another new side of the universe and i do like him a lot. this setting has already got a lot going on. reading that list from bottom to top, and seeing how the various problems escalate. it feels almost like someone made a level 1 to 20 D&D campaign but the DM kinda just figured it out as then went along instead of building up 1 singular big threat that the plucky heroes need to work up to defeating. where first you have a little comedic threat that's not too serious but still dangerous enough to cause problems, then you get some interpersonal conflicts between various political groups, then there's some open warfare, then you start dealing with some cults to mysterious dark entities more with localized supernatural horror. then you have your ancient sealed evil in a can start waking up where these crazy demon like monsters sealed in weaponry are popping up in places and being bad news. but then the party gets too strong for those to be a threat, so you break out get the big evil overlord bent on taking over the world with his own armies of the dead, and there are also these powerful magic artifacts with god like power that could do serious damage if in the wrong hands. and after all is said and done, the party of heroes is essentially lvl20 demigod-like people with immense strength, but you still need a big scary final FINAL F I N A L enemy for them to fight, so you break open another dimension and throw the reality consuming unfeeling terrifying cosmic horror at them. now i'm not saying riot isn't planning out some big plotlines with a singular big bad for the world to unite against.... but really, i don't think they are. there is not 1 single final boss in this story to beat and bring peace to everything. there are lots of varied conflicts all over the place, some big some small. some are earth shattering conflicts between demigods and ancient horrors, while others are just that group A doesn't like group B, or this guy over here is causing some trouble in our town and needs to be stopped.

mordekaiser and the other world ending beings/entities could work if they were all staggered. like, i think of how in comics there are quite a few potential world ending threats, but they get away with it because they become large events over time. so you can have smaller villains and larger than life villains exist at the same time. riot's also been lifting a lot of superhero comics' ideas with redesigning and retconning lore of their characters for years. they even ship out the new stories like comics have in small bite size pieces leading up to large scale events. but as youve said, it makes a little less sense when they're all happening at the same time.

I love his design because its just my favourite kinda villain. This big bad, bigger than life Monster which i think that comes across in his ult where after he gets a kill he expands and becomes bigger and scarier and with the confidence and absolute swagger in his step he is just awsome and I love it (also im not 2 years late, you were 2 years early)

Don’t forget about Syndra in Ionia and the Darkin are like sorta worl-ending. Now we just need some stuff for Demacia (well they’re whole value system is at risk, so ehhhhh), Piltover, Zaun, Ixtal, & The Serpent Isles.

Morde animations are amazing and the q is the best and most satisfying part of playing him.

I like how Riot have about 3 or 4 different scapegoats currently if they ever need to end support for the game with one final battle, like they made SURE they had options god damn. And whatever they could do would probably be incredibly badass and cool

i think for me its hard to keep track of which catastrophic disaster is which when there's like, as you said, five or whatever of them happening at the same time.

Reminds me of 40k with the Necrons vs Tyranids vs Chaos.

I'd suspect that Mordekaiser might end up teaming up with the Void, because - as far as I could gather from his lore - he couldn't give less of a damn about the world of the living. He just wants to reshape the transitory limbo he was stuck in, into the Halls of the Bones and have a feast with the souls of the fallen as was promised to him in the ancient legends that he likely followed. Whether Runeterra lives or dies in the process couldn't matter less to him to that end. I'd also think that the World Runes end up being the weapon to seal out the Void and break Mordekaiser's armor to the point where it can no longer move around. That is of course assuming that Riot ever does anything to advance the plot regarding those two, and doesn't just play fine with just establishing the world as "look at how many things live at the same time in this universe; isn't this great?" Mordekaiser's lore also now has me longing for a proper Riot Games RPG, where you play an "average" Joe that somehow ends up in this immense conflict between all these factions, equipped only with "insert RPG superpower and stats" to help him out, a la TES4 Oblivion.

now that I think of it a year+ later the best solution would be to go beyond just runeterra, so morde isn't a global threat anymore, just a runeterra one. And void would still be a global cosmic horror that wants to unmake all of creation. Tbh the darkin-alien canon which riot once used would be very good for that. In my vision - runeterra'd have internal problems, a world class threat like morde, then something "solar system wide" - alien civ of darkin and then the global-global threat to everything and everyone - void. What do you think Skyen?

@T B Skyen a while ago u analysed the desing of the apex legend champs, and now there are afew neew games out there... in the E3 a new game called Bleding Edge appear and they only have a few character but i feel the desing are pretty good ( the females specially) there is a lot of stereotipes transplanted into the future setting of creative ways, like a voodo zoombie but is actually a robot snake moving the zombie body around, or this little witch lady who is floating around in a cauldron who is really a drone, and is witch hat is a drione too.. pretty funny - they have a page up now ( bleedig edge )

I like to see it as setting up various "arcs" within the overall story of Runeterra's history. Perhaps Mordekaiser's return acts as a precursor to the war against the Void? He is a rather minor threat in comparison, after all.

all these world ending threats become a lot more useful when you are working on a mmo expect a mordekaiser xpac, where he is stopped from being resurrected and we follow him into the realm of the dead to beat him for goo xpac for the void vacation xpac for the shadow isles (with a lot of side content involving pirates) and so on

My take on this, is that Mordekaiser is basically a Final Boss that'll never stop coming back until he's been turned to nothingness in the after life. And seeing how the guy is just too eager to die not without putting up a fight, he's gonna be a recurring villain, even if the Void HAS to be the Main villain for Runeterra because of its nature.

Runeterra's multitude of existential threats and lesser (but potentially world-shaking) megalomaniacs, along with its myriad heroes, all interacting in small sets which rarely overlap reminds me of a D&D world. Those need tons of potential adventure hooks to fit all groups, and plenty of potential hero origin points for the PCs to originate from. I'm not sure League of Legends needs the same...

I would currently think of mord right now as a vicktor von doom where as long as mord will get what he wants which he will given enough time, he will wait and stop anyone getting in the way

I'm honestly kind of curious if they could spin LeBlanc as being his contrasting point in some way, or at least as someone for him to be particularly antagonistic toward, but I don't know how much that could really be achieved. I _do_ feel they could easily add in a new character at some point to exist as his counterpoint, but then he wouldn't have unique interactions with them. So I dunno.

Id have mordekaiser come in as a final hero, when everyone else is beat and the void is about to consume everything, he rides in with his massive undead army playing powerwolf and helping everyone stand off. However its not my story, not my place
